Dale E. Startzell
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Dale Eugene Startzell, 73, of 3916 Valley View Road, died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at his home.
Born May, 9, 1923, in Punxsutawney, Pa., he was the son of the late Lusher and Lena T. Graham Startzell.
He was a 1941 graduate of Punxsutawney High School. He also was a 1951 graduate of Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He was a member of both his high school football team, where he was a starting lineman, and his college team, where he was a defensive cornerback and fullback and started for four years.
He was employed by NASA in Silver Spring, Md., and in Cleveland until his retirement in 1964.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the Army Air Force Corps. He served 27 months in the China-Burma Theater.
He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown.
He was a member of Columbia Lodge 58 A.F.&A.M., Frederick, Md.; VFW, Middletown; life member of AMVETS Post 9, Middletown; member of Ham Radio Club, Frederick; Francis Scott Key American Legion Post 11, Frederick; and REACT C-22, Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Lamb Startzell, whom he married on June 21, 1958; one daughter, Cathy Startzell of Middletown; one sister, Sarah Houk of Indiana, Pa.; two brothers, James Startzell of Rockville, Md., and Harry Startzell of Levittown, Pa.; three grandchildren; four nieces; and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Domb Hyde.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown. The Rev. Donald L. Turley and the Rev. William M. Bucher will officiate. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown, today from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church Tuesday.

Ellis T. Bard
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ellis T. Bard, 76, of 1010 Wallace Ave., died Friday, April 18, 1997, at Penn Hall Nursing Home, Chambersburg.
Born Sept. 19, 1920, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late E. Bruce and Nellie Fox Bard.
He was a 1938 graduate of Chambersburg High School.
He retired in 1985 after 30 years as a representative of State Farm Insurance Companies.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Navy Reserves.
He was a lifelong member of Fourth Street Church of the Brethren, Chambersburg.
He was a life member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, American Legion, and Junior Hose and Truck Co., all of Chambersburg. He was a member of BPO Elks 600, Eagles Club Inc., Falling Springs Chapter 2840 of AARP, and Penn State Club of Franklin County, Pa. He served as president of Franklin County Life Underwriters. He was an avid golfer and was past president of Chambersburg Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jayne Verdier Bard, whom he married on March 15, 1944; one son, James E. Bard of Chambersburg; two sisters, Kathleen Heckman of Newville, Pa., and Roselyn Wheeler of Dothan, Ala.; one brother, Bennett R. Bard of Chambersburg; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by five brothers.
A memorial service will be Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at Fourth Street Church of the Brethren, Chambersburg. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
There will be no public viewing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service Saturday.

Elmo K. Clark
ORBISONIA, Pa. - Elmo K. Clark, 89, of Woodland Retirement Center, and formerly of Hustontown, Pa., died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at the center.
Born Aug. 31, 1907, in Dublin Mills, Huntingdon County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jesse L. and Lillie Brown Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman D. Clark, in 1989.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Hustontown United Methodist Church.
She was a 50-year member of Fulton Chapter 519 Order of Eastern Star, McConnellsburg, Pa.
She is survived by one daughter, Marlene Hawk of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Helen Greenland of Orbisonia and Ruth Hamilton of Three Springs, Pa.; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jack M. Clark; one sister; three brothers; and one grandson.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. Pastor George Clippinger will officiate. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Hustontown.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday two hours prior to the service. Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Elmer G. Pentoney
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Elmer G. Pentoney, 90, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born March 27, 1907, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Issac and Mary Jane Widmyer Pentoney.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn A. Michael Pentoney, in 1984.
He was a retired farmer.
He was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Nease of Luray, Va.; one son, Mike Pentoney of Berkeley Springs; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Nettie Yost, Eva Everett and Jennie Cain; and six brothers, James Pentoney, Emory Pentoney, Raymond Pentoney, John Pentoney, William Pentoney and Edgar Pentoney.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Sphores Cross Roads, Morgan County. The Rev. Wayne Frum and the Rev. Henry Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in Sphores Cross Roads Cemetery.

Ruby M.L. Bodkin
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Ruby May Luckett Bodkin, 87, of 350 S. Church St., and formerly of Bolivar, W.Va., died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born April 18, 1910, in Clarke County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lewis Leon and Vallie May Dunn Upwright.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Earl Luckett and Osbern Bodkin.
She was a member of Bolivar United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Wilt of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.; one son, Marvin Luckett of McGaheysville, Va.; one sister, Ethel Cox of Kearneysville, W.Va.; one brother, Charles Alvin Upwright of Leetown, W.Va.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Upwright and Leon Upwright.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Daniel L. Montague III will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery, Bolivar.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

George E. Snyder
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - George Edward Snyder, 78, of Route 4, Box 311, died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at his home.
Born Sept. 30, 1918, in Wheeling, W.Va., he was the son of the late Herman Edward and Kathryn Irene Zimmer Snyder.
He was a 1941 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College.
He was self-employed as a civil engineer in Ohio County, W.Va., and retired in 1981.
He was a veteran of World War II and served as a first sergeant with U.S. Army combat engineers in the Pacific Theater. He received four Bronze Stars and a Bronze Arrowhead.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Nelson Lodge 30 A.F.&A.M., Wheeling, and AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Amanda Radcliffe Snyder; one daughter, Judy Ann Gower of Williamsport; one sister, Martha Krupinski of Coolville, Ohio; one brother, Harry F. Snyder of Wheeling; and one half-brother, William Downer of Vienna, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Rodman J. Snyder.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Elizabeth P. Walsnovich
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Elizabeth P. "Betty" Walsnovich, 68, of 9958 Rabbit Road South, and formerly of Eldora, Pa., died Friday, April 18, 1997, in the emergency room of Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa., of a heart attack.
Born Oct. 21, 1928, in Donora, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Pichonsky Weisdack. She lived her early life in Sunnyside, Pa.
She was a 1936 graduate of Donora High School.
In her early life, she was employed by G.C. Murphy's and then Corning Glass, both of Charlerio, Pa. After moving to Greencastle, she was employed by Baer Packing, Greencastle, for a short time.
She was a member of Antietam Humane Society, Waynesboro, Pa., and National AARP.
She enjoyed animals and painting.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Nick Walsnovich; two sons, Dr. William J. Walson of Monmouth, Ore., and Mark L. Walsnovich of Delaware; one sister, Mary Chider of Greencastle; one brother, George Weisdack of Sunnyside; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Cider; and two brothers, John Weisdack and Edward Weisdack.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.
Dr. William J. Walson will officiate.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

WILLIAMSPORT - Evelyn Irene "Ted" Liston, 90, of 28 S. Conococheague St., died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at her home.
Born Feb. 4, 1907, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Harry H. and Mary Elizabeth Ensminger Pryor.
She was employed by L'Aiglon Manufacturing Co. in Hagerstown and retired in 1957.
She served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Williamsport.
She was a member of Potomac Post 202 American Legion, Williamsport.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel M. White, Effie P. Brown and Mabel Sword.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport.
The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
Military graveside services will be conducted by Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, Hagerstown.
