John H. Martin
MAUGANSVILLE - John H. Martin, 93, a resident of Mennonite Old People's Home, and formerly of Leitersburg, died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at the home.
Born March 23, 1904, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Hettie B. Horst Martin.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Luella Coss Martin, in 1973; and his second wife, Ada Burkholder Strite Martin, in 1993.
He was a member of Stouffers Mennonite Church, near Smithsburg.
He is survived by three daughters, Elva C. Petre of Waynesboro, Pa., Lois C. Bates of Waynesboro, Va., and Naomi C. Strite of Downsville; two sons, David C. Martin of Smithsburg and Daniel E. Martin of Waynesboro, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Louise B. Hunsecker of Chambersburg, Pa.; four stepsons, Clarence B. Strite and Gerald B. Strite, both of Chambersburg, Russel B. Strite of Gettysburg, Pa., and Mahlon B. Strite of Waynesboro; one sister, Naomi H. Shank of Menno Haven, Chambersburg; 34 grandchildren; 140 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Martha C. Halteman; six sisters; three brothers; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Stouffers Mennonite Church, near Smithsburg. The Stouffers Mennonite Church ministry will officiate. Burial will be in Stouffers Mennonite Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Judith M. Jacques
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Judith Miller Jacques, 76, formerly of Martinsburg, died Sunday, April 20, 1997, in Mineral, Va.
Born Feb. 3, 1921, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Lavinia Anderson Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Lewis Jacques.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith Horton of Mineral and Janice Manuz of Middleburg, Fla.; one sister, Lorraine Beckwith of Martinsburg; one granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Brian Jacques and Richard Jacques; three sisters, Mae Ware, Catherine Saylor and Mary Harris; and two brothers, Lee R. Miller and Orloff Miller.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Martinsburg. The Rev. Dougles J. Hollida will officiate.

James C. Salmon
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - James Charles Salmon, 88, of Martinsburg, and formerly of West Deer Township, Pa., died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 18, 1908, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Charles Lewis Salmon and Hazel Caler Salmon Jacobs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Muir Salmon.
He was a retired auto mechanic.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Listek of Natrona Heights, Pa.; two sons, James F. Salmon of Martinsburg and Robert E. Salmon of Princeton, W.Va.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Salmon and Charles Salmon.
The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, today from 6 to 8 p.m., where a service will be at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Robert S. Hill Jr. will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Siwicki-Yanicho Funeral Home, Russelton, Pa., Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., where a service will be at 8:30 p.m. The Rev. David Brewer will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Dorseyville, Pa.
Emma V.W. Brown
FREDERICK, Md. - Emma V. Wetzel Brown, 86, a resident of Collegeview Nursing Home, and formerly of Sabillasville, Md., died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Dec. 19, 1910, in Lantz, Md., she was the daughter of the late James and Alice Smith Wetzel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse R. Brown, in 1996.
She was employed as a supervisor in the laundry department at Victor Cullen State Hospital in Sabillasville for more than 30 years, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of Germantown Church of God, Cascade.
She was a member of Thurmont (Md.) Senior Citizens and National AARP.
She is survived by one daughter, Charlotte B. Nusbaum of Frederick; one son, Robert L. Brown of Sabillasville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Eyler and Catherine McKissick; and one brother, Albert Wetzel.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Paul Tobias will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade.

Judy A. Rowe
WILLIAMSPORT - Judy A. Rowe, 51, of 14920 Bottom Road, died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 23, 1945, in Charleston, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James Hubert and Hazel Lilly Comer Slater.
She was owner and operator of J.R.'s Personal Touch Cleaning.
She is survived by her husband, Larry G. Rowe Sr.; two daughters, Katherine Atha of Williamsport and Hazel Frisch of Clear Spring; two sons, Larry Rowe Jr. of Williamsport and Chris Howlett of Hagerstown; six sisters, Brenda Seckman, Janice Holt and Rosemary Talbert, all of St. Albans, W.Va., Beverly Jennings of Dunbar, W.Va., Diane Kelly of Hurricane, W.Va., and Carolyn Stottlemyer of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three brothers, James Slater of McConnellsburg, Pa., Hubert Slater Jr. of Hagerstown and Lee Slater of Milton, W.Va.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor John C. Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Joyce A. Butts
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Joyce Ann Butts, 61, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
She was the daughter of Nellie Locke Rickel and stepdaughter of Calvin Rickel of Martinsburg and the late Leo Owens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Butts.
She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of the Eagles and Women of the Moose 738, Martinsburg.
In addition to her mother and stepfather, she is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann Rice of Mt. Airy, Md., and Laura Ann Rice of Hagerstown; one brother, Richard "Dick" Owens of Inwood, W.Va.; one grandson; and a close friend, Donald Backhaus of Falling Waters, W.Va.
Services and burial will be private.

Emanuel F. Wolfe
WILLIAMSPORT - Emanuel Foster Wolfe, 83, of 10404 Mikie Drive, died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 29, 1913, in Funkstown, he was the son of the late William D. and Sadie Blanche Davis Wolfe.
He was last employed by Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro, Pa., for 20 years and retired in 1976. He was previously employed by Stickell's Flour & Feed Mills in Hagerstown for 18 years. He also worked on several farms in the Funkstown and Hagerstown areas.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served for two years during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of Mountain View Baptist church and was a member of Jolly 60s Ministry.
He was a member of National AARP and Marlowe Ruritan Club, Marlowe, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathryn E. Mong Wolfe; one daughter, Dolores M. Hayes of Hagerstown; one son, Emanuel E. Wolfe Sr. of Boonsboro; two sisters, Genevieve Everhart and Gloria M. Pleasant, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one brother, Donald J. Wolfe of Arlington, Texas; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, William David Wolfe; four sisters; and seven brothers.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor William Clark and Pastor Tom Tennis will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Fred Bastian
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Fred Bastian, 73, of 522 Nelson St., died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Jan. 26, 1924, in Sunbury, Pa., he was the son of the late Guy and Grace Treas Bastian.
He was a 1942 graduate of Sunbury High School. He attended Bucknell University.
He retired in 1981 as a construction inspector for Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore district.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force, 390th Bomb Group, who served as a flight engineer during World War II.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Chambersburg.
He was a life member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW; Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46; Landis McCleaf Detachment Marine Corps League; and Chambersburg Club. He was a member of 390th Bomb Group, Friendship Fire Co. and South Mountain Fish and Game.
He is survived by his wife, Helen M. Christian Bastian, whom he married on Jan. 1, 1943; one daughter, Becky Ann Jones of Fayetteville, Pa.; one son, Jerry F. Bastian of Norwood, Mass.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 58 S. Second St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Richard A. Randall will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Columbarium in Trinity Episcopal Church. Military honors will be conducted by members of VFW Post 1599.
There will be no viewing.
