Gerald W. Bailey
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Gerald Wayne "Beetle" Bailey, 71, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born April 9, 1926, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Claude E. and June Marie Venus Bailey.
He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School, Martinsburg, W.Va. He also was a graduate of Sparten School of Aeronautics, Tulsa, Okla.
He retired in 1985 after 31 years with the 167th Airlift Wing, West Virginia Air National Guard, Martinsburg. He was an original member of the unit. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served during the Korean War.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of the Air Force Retiree's Association and the Golden Corral Senior Citizens Bowling League.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Louise Nicewarner Bailey; two daughters, Diana Lee Creamer of Hagerstown and Donna Sue Sowers of Frederick, Md.; and three sisters, Wanda Simpson of Denver, Colo., Celesta Sutton of Orlando, Fla., and Polly Kisling of Bellville, Ark.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Daniel Montague and the Rev. Dennis Yocum will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
Friends will be received Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Virginia M.H. Hines
LEESBURG, Va. - Virginia M. Holler Hines, 73, of Leesburg, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997, at her home.
Born Dec. 23, 1923, in Gapland, she was the daughter of the late Samuel H. and Nina M. Gaylor Hines.
She was employed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds during World War II, and later with Pangborn in Hagerstown.
She retired from Loudoun County Hospital in Leesburg.
She was of the Lutheran faith.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Leesburg.
She is survived by two sons, Milton Lee Holler of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and S. Micheal Holler of Arlington, Va.; one sister, Madeline A. Holder of Gapland; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Marie B. Holder; three brothers, Gorman L. Hines, Reynolds G. Hines and Robert L. Hines; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 26, at Locust Grove Cemetery. A memorial service at the VFW in Leesburg also was held.
Alice I. Jamison
BOONSBORO - Alice I. Jamison, 76, of 102 Park Drive, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 27, 1921, in Keedysville, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Lela May Line Coffman.
She was a graduate of Boonsboro High School and the West Virginia Beauty School, Martinsburg, W.Va.
She was employed as a beautician for 40 years in Boonsboro and Hagerstown.
She was a member of Battlefield Bible Church.
She also was a member of Boonsboro Senior Citizens Association; AARP; and was a volunteer with Friends of Reeders Memorial Home, Boonsboro.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Ralph E. Jamison, whom she married Aug. 20, 1955; two sisters, Mary A. Crampton of Boonsboro and Helen C. Wright of Brookside, N.J.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Julia L. Byrd.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Pastor Henry Lutz and Pastor Robert Fitz will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harry E. Lerch Jr.
ROHRERSVILLE - Harry Edgar Lerch Jr., 73, of 20147 Rohrersville School Road, died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born in Rohrersville, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Daisy Castle Lerch Sr.
He was employed by CSX Railroad, Martinsburg, W.Va., until his retirement.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in the European Theater.
He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Rohrersville.
He also was a member of Antietam Lodge 197 AF&AM, Keedysville; Olive Branch Chapter 34, Order of Eastern Star, Keedysville; Clopper-Michael Post 10, American Legion, Boonsboro; Rohrersville Ruritan Club; and Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Andrews Lerch; one daughter, Anna K. Lerch of Charlotte, N.C.; one son, Harry E. "Terry" Lerch III of Charles Town; one sister, Helen Kozar of Hagerstown; two granddaughters; two nieces; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, M. Catherine Wisner.
Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Blaine E. Feightner will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Locust Grove.

Florence M. Crowe
FROSTBURG, Md. - Florence M. Crowe, 86, of 135 Hill St., died Monday, April 28, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Feb. 20, 1911, in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Maggie Hartle Clopper.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Kenneth Crowe.
She was a homemaker. She had worked at Friends Aware, Cumberland.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Frostburg, Md.
She was a charter member of Frostburg Chapter 221 Women of the Moose; a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1273 Auxiliary; Farrady Unit 24 Auxiliary of the American Legion; Frostburg Homemakers; Frostburg Senior Citizens; and Interfaith Community Food Pantry. She was a participant in the Council of the Alleganies.
She is survived by two sons, Charles F. Crowe of Chester, Md., and Robert W. Crowe at home; one sister, Margaret Winters of Sharpsburg; one brother, Verdeen Clopper of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Lee Crowe.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg. Pastor Esther M. Kuhre will officiate. Burial will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Royce W. Linton
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Royce W. "Pickle" Linton, 78, of Bunker Hill, died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center nursing home.
Born Nov. 9, 1918, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clarence W. and Rosalee Miller Linton.
He was employed by the J.E. Baker Stone Quarry, Inwood, W.Va., for 22 years and the asphalt plant in Martinsburg, W.Va., for seven years. He retired in 1980 from 3M Co., Middleway, after 13 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star.
He was of the Presbyterian faith.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Maggie E. Johnston; one daughter, Jean McDonald of Inwood; one son, Douglas Linton of Alabama; five brothers, Lawrence Linton of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., Thomas Linton of Kearneysville, W.Va., Junior Linton of Ranson, W.Va., Alfred Linton of Drakesville, W.Va., and Donnie Linton of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marshall Linton and Woodrow Linton.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. John E. Harris will officiate. Burial, with military graveside services by Newton D. Baker, Post 896, VFW, and Berkeley Post 14, American Legion, will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery.

FREDERICK, Md. - Eva Mae Whipp Wiles Hilderbrand Kelly, 75, of Catoctin View Avenue Apartments, Frederick, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at her home.
Born March 22, 1922, in Braddock Heights, Md., she was the daughter of the late Dallas and Ora Mae Shaffer Whipp.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Kelly, on Feb. 9, 1995.
She was a 1957 graduate of Victor Cullen Hospital School of Practical Nursing, Sabillasville, Md.
She was employed for a number of years by the Church Home and Hospital in Baltimore and retired from Frederick Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of Parkway Community Church, Frederick.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon L. Fain of New Market, Md., Nancy L. Dutrow of New Midway, Md., and Vickey L. Sharrer of Thurmont, Md.; one sister, Mary R. Hood; one brother, Gene W. Whipp; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jane Powell; and two brothers, D. Merridith Whipp and L. Tolan Whipp.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The Rev. Gary Hicks will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Dona Mae Spielman, 90, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born May 5, 1906, in Piney Grove, Md., she was the daughter of the late Samuel D. and Sina B. Robinette Barnes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dustin Ellis Spielman, on June 22, 1949.
She attended Piney Grove School, Piney Grove, Md.
She had been employed by the A.C. Unger Canning Factory, Jimstown, W.Va., and National Fruit Co., Winchester, Va. She was a baby sitter for many years. She also was a homemaker.
She was a member of Berkeley Springs Church of Christ. She attended Berkeley Springs Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by five sons, Bernard L. Spielman of Hancock, Denver L. Spielman of Killeen, Texas, Richard D. "Picky" Spielman of Dover, Del., and Berkeley Springs, and Gary F. "Nuke" Spielman and Stephen W. Spielman, both of Berkeley Springs; three sisters, Etta Messner of California, Isabelle N. McBee of Berkeley Springs and Cosie Meyers of Warfordsburg, Pa.; one brother, Woodrow Barnes of Berkeley Springs; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ailene Spielman Hohmann; one son, Willard "Woody" Spielman; and five brothers, Herbert Barnes, Tilton Barnes, Sheridan Barnes, Eddie Barnes and Albert Barnes.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Rodney L. Truax and the Rev. Paul Cantrell will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
