Lucille I. Shaw
WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Lucille Iva Shaw, 96, of Warfordsburg, died Thursday, May 1, 1997, at Quincy United Methodist Nursing Home in Quincy, Pa.
Born Feb. 9, 1901, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jerry A. and Ella Nora Truxell Bair.
Her husband, Harry W. Shaw, died in 1947.
She retired from Southern Fulton School Cafeteria in Warfordsburg, and previously worked at Park-N-Dine and National Lunch restaurants in Hancock.
She attended the United Methodist Church in Warfordsburg.
She was a charter and life member of Hancock Lioness Club, Hancock.
She is survived by four daughters, B. Evelyn Heiser of York, Pa., Laura E. Creek of Hancock, and Bonnie J. Ward and Helen L. Layton, both of Warfordsburg; one son, Gerald W. Shaw of Hancock; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma E. Bair; one brother, Walter A. Bair; and one grandson.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Tollgate Ridge. The Rev. Frank Kocek will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home in Hancock, today from 7 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

John W. Hepfer
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - John William Hepfer, 73, of Punta Gorda, died April 25, 1997, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda.
Born Feb. 9, 1924, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late John W. and Alice Holtzman Hepfer.
He received a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics and physics from Bridgewater College, Va., in 1950, and a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, in 1953. He received a master of arts degree in quantitative analysis from the University of Maryland in 1966. He was a graduate of Harvard Business School's Program for Management Development.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on July 30, 1942. He flew 44 combat missions in the Southwest Pacific as an aircraft navigator. He served in 1950 during the Korean War as a general. He was promoted to major general on July 1, 1977.
He was the 1977 recipient of the Air Force Association's General Bernard A. Schriever Award in recognition of his engineering and managerial contributions to national defense. His military decorations include the Department of Defense Distinguished S/M and the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster; the Air Medal with six oak leaf clusters and the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster. He was a master navigator.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Punta Gorda.
He also was a member of the Retired Officers Association; Isles Yacht Club; St. Andrew's Golf Club, all of Punta Gorda; and the U.S. Air Force Association, BPO Elks Lodge 731, Waynesboro. He was a 50-year member of the Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, Waynesboro.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Miller Hepfer; two sons, John W. Hepfer III of St. Louis and Maj. Stephen J. Hepfer of Arlington, Texas; one sister, Arlene Ankerbrand of Waynesboro; and two grandchildren.
Services were held on April 29 at Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda. Burial and full military honors were conducted by the MacDill Air Force Base in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
H. Ralph Buhrman Sr.
Services for H. Ralph Buhrman Sr., 86, who died Thursday, May 1, 1997, will be officiated by Pastor Odell Stone and Pastor Paul Tobias.
Dennis W. Henson
SAN FRANCISCO - Dennis Wayne Henson, 46, of San Francisco, died Thursday, May 1, 1997, at his home.
Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of James L. Henson Sr. and Zelma M. Lushbaugh, both of Hagerstown. He was the stepson of Claudette Henson and Harrison "Tiny" Lushbaugh.
He was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School.
He was employed by Bell-Atlantic in Washington, D.C., and Northern California.
In addition to his parents and stepparents, he is survived by one sister, Patty J. Henson Powley of Rockville, Md.; three brothers, James L. Henson Jr. and Jeff Henson, both of Hagerstown, and Terry L. Henson of Boone, N.C.; one stepsister, Vicki Lushbaugh Higgins of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one stepbrother, Jerry Lushbaugh of Hagerstown; maternal grandmother, Daisy Z. Jacobs; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in California at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

C. Richard Ahalt
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - C. Richard "Dick" Ahalt, 74, of 7514 Picnic Woods Road, died Friday, May 2, 1997, at his home.
Born Dec. 9, 1922, in Middletown, he was the son of the late M. Foster and Sara Virginia Shank Ahalt.
He was a lifelong farmer.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown.
He also was a member of the Republican Senatorial Inner Circle.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Coblentz Ahalt; two daughters, Marsha Bowers of Walkersville, Md., and Melinda Davis of Manchester, Mo.; two sons, Mark Ahalt and Michael D. "Chip" Ahalt, both of Middletown; two sisters, Martha Coblentz and Frances Ahalt, both of Middletown; three brothers, Maurice Ahalt of Middletown, Louis Ahalt of Leesburg, Va., and Edwin Ahalt of Pearisburg, Va.; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Malcolm "Mac" Ahalt on Feb. 12, 1993; one sister, Mary L. Ahalt and three brothers, Leroy Ahalt, Bruce Ahalt and George M. Ahalt.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Donald L. Turley will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
Friends may call Sunday at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

James S. Steck
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - James Sperow Steck, 86, of Manor Care, Chambersburg, and formerly of 4111 Ricklyn Drive, Chambersburg, died Friday, May 2, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Feb. 21, 1911, in Welsh Run, Pa., he was the son of the late Luther Philip Roman and Mary Bess Sperow Steck. He also lived in Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was a 1929 graduate of Martinsburg High School. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Fairmont State College, Fairmont, W.Va. He received his master's degree in English from the University of Virginia. He received his doctorate of education in English from Penn State University.
He was employed by the Saturday Evening Post and the U.S. Census Bureau in Washington, D.C. He taught at Hagerstown High School for two years. He was head of the English Department at Union College, Barbourville, Ky. He was an English professor at Shippensburg State Teachers College until his retirement in 1976.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served for four years during World War II in the South Pacific Theater.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, where he sang in the church choir.
He also was a member of Hagerstown Lodge 217 Free and Accepted Masons, where he received his 50-year pin; Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest 145; and Shippensburg Lions Club. He was an adviser for the Sigma Pi Fraternity, Shippensburg College, for 17 years.
He is survived by his wife, whom he married April 20, 1946, Rachel Shuck Steck; one daughter, Sarah Steck Bernot of Mount Joy, Pa.; one son, Philip R. Steck of Jackson, Wyo.; one brother, Philip C. Steck of Martinsburg; three grandsons; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 10, at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 43 W. Washington St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Karen Minnich-Sadler will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no public viewing.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Mary E. Roney
WILLIAMSPORT - Mary Elizabeth Roney, 94, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Friday, May 2, 1997, at Homewood Retirement Center.
Born Jan. 3, 1903, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Daniel S. and Annie M. Spickler Seibert.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Roney, in 1954.
She attended Hood College.
She was part owner of Roney Stationary and Office Supplies.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and St. John's Guild.
She was a member of the Alumnae, Clear Spring High School; Conococheague NSDAR; Washington County Museum; Clear Spring Historical Society; the Women's Club and the Crossroad Garden Club. She was a life member of Washington County Hospital Auxiliary and a former member of the Washington County Historical Society.
She is survived by one daughter, G. Harriett Downey of Williamsport; two granddaughters, Suzanne Downey Rutledge of Charlotte, N.C., and Martha Downey Fritz of Richmond, Va.; one grandson, Norman Downey of Richmond; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Victor Ruck will officiate. Burial will be in Little Rose Hill Cemetery, Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Howard L. Monninger
WILLIAMSPORT - Howard Layman Monninger, 81, of Milestone Garden Apartments, Williamsport, died Thursday, May 1, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 7, 1916, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late George and Josephine Sprecher Monninger.
He was employed by Fairchild, retiring in 1978 after 34 years of service.
He was a member of the Hagerstown Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
He also was a member of Antietam Fire Co. and AARP 623.
He is survived by his wife, whom he married in 1977, Nancy Cullen Monninger; one stepdaughter, Noreen Wright of Brooksville, Fla.; one stepson, Norwood Cullen of Fletcher, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Wetzel of Hagerstown and Ivaline Cline of Williamsport; two brothers, Louis Monninger and Robert Monninger, both of Hagerstown; four stepgrandsons and two stepgreat-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Myrtle Clopper; and two brothers, Frank Monninger and William Monninger.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Jeffery Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in rose Hill Cemetery.

Olivia J. Mixell
FORT LITTLETON, Pa. - Olivia Joy Mixell, infant daughter of John and Penny Wheeler Mixell, of HCR 75, died Thursday, May 1, 1997, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.
She was born Feb. 21, 1997, in McConnellsburg.
She was a member of Fort Littleton Bible Church.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Heather Runk and Brandi Mixell, both at home; maternal grandparents, Gary and Darlene Wheeler of Warfordsburg, Pa.; paternal grandfather, Earl Mixell of Fort Littleton; maternal great-grandmother, Mary Truax of Warfordsburg; and paternal great-grandfather, Joseph Pitcox of Fort Littleton.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Joy Mixell and her paternal great-grandmother, Laura Pitcox.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pa. The Rev. Deborah Strait and the Rev. Doug Poffenberger will officiate. Burial will be in Sherman's Valley Cemetery, Hopewell, Pa.
