Dixie L. Farris
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Dixie Lee Farris, 49, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996, at Riby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Oct. 19, 1947, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of Katheryn Sheppard Sensel of Martinsburg, and the late Roy M. Sensel.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. Doug Hollida, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be private.
There will be no visitation.

Elwood A. Martin
JEFFERSON, Md. - Elwood Arlington Martin, 75, of 3626 Glenoble Court, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996, at the home of his daughter near Jefferson.
Born Aug. 24, 1921, in Yarrowsburg, he was the son of the late James Arlington and Louella Mills Martin.
His wife, Anna Lee Martin, died in 1993.
He was the former owner of Cindy-Dee Restaurant in Knoxville, and had been employed by the B&O Railroad in Brunswick, Md.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He saw action in the European and African Theaters.
He was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren.
He also was a member of Brunswick Masonic Lodge and Pleasant Valley Ruritan Club.
He is survived by two daughters, Diane L. Link of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Cynthia A. Darr of Jefferson; three grandchildren, James Lewis of Sandy, Utah, Becky Chicochio of Fredericksburg, Va., and Hannah Lee Darr of Jefferson; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Martin and Terry Martin; and one sister, Virginia L. Herbert.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Brownsville Church of the Brethren. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Ruth E. Schroyer
QUINCY, Pa. - Ruth Elizabeth Schroyer, 95, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 1504 E. Main St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, at Quincy United Methodist Home.
Born June 30, 1901, in Sabillasville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Maurice G. and Maggie B. Brown Harbaugh.
Her husband, William H. Schroyer, died in 1978. They were married June 29, 1922.
In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed as a clerk at McCroy's Department Store in Waynesboro, Pa., and as a primary teacher at Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She was a life member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth S. Hauptman of Redding, Calif., and Helen S. Hackenberg of Camp Hill, Pa.; two sons, William H. Schroyer Jr. of Chambersburg, Pa., and Kenneth F. Schroyer of Ocean City, Md.; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and five nieces and two nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home Inc., corner of South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. at United Brethren Cemetery in Thurmont, Md.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Chester H. Smith
WILLIAMSPORT - Chester Henry Smith, 94, formerly of Hagerstown, died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, at Homewood Retirement Center.
Born March 26, 1902, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Amanda E. Moore Smith.
His first wife, Clara Smith, died in 1931.
His second wife, C. Irene Smith, died in 1986.
He retired in 1964 from Western Maryland Railway after 41 years of service.
He was a member of Christ Reformed Church in Hagerstown, and the Clever Smith Bible Class.
He also was a member of International Association of Machinists.
He is survived by one daughter, Lucy June Weber of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Alverta Mattson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Velda Grimes of Hagerstown; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Homewood Retirement Center, 16505 Virginia Ave., Williamsport. The Rev. Willard F. Rahn and the Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Laura E. Wolfe
WILLIAMSPORT - Laura Ellen Wolfe, 91, of 10911 Kemper Drive, and formerly of 527 W. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, for more than 80 years, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 11, 1905, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Walter Henry and Mary Elizabeth Brewer Tritch.
She was employed by Federal Silk Mill and South Hagerstown High School cafeteria.
She was the last charter member of Hagerstown Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Dolores M. Howell of Williamsport; one granddaughter, Cathy Dice of Baltimore; and 29 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Sutphin and Sara Love; and three brothers, Allen Tritch, Harold Tritch and Clyde Tritch.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Pastor Tim Roosenberg will officiate.

Ernest E. Laye
SMITHSBURG - Ernest Edward Laye, 81, of Bayer Drive, and formerly of Fort Loudon Road, Mercersburg, Pa., died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 24, 1915, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Leonard and Blanche V. Mills Leigh.
He was a life long carpenter working for various contractors in Franklin County, Pa., and retired from Mercersburg Academy in 1980.
He also was a minister holding tent meetings and establishing several mission churches in Pennsylvania and Maryland. He began teaching the adult Bible class for Sunday school at the age of 16 completing 65 years of teaching. He was a founding member of Emmanuel Chapel in Smithsburg.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Zelda R. Hawbaker Laye; three daughters, Dorcas L. Pine and Naomi B. Hornbaker, both of Mercersburg; Elizabeth C. Litten of Fairplay; one son, Jonathan D. Laye, pastor, of Smithsburg; one brother, Herman R. Leigh of Clear Spring; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rachel Rebecca Laye; two brothers, Milford L. Leigh and Robert Leigh; and one granddaughter.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Chapel in Smithsburg. The Rev. Glen Hartman and the Rev. Rosalie Addlesberger Wharton will officiate. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.
The family will receive friends at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park St., Mercersburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Helen Anderko
SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Helen Anderko, 87, of South Mountain Restoration Center, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 1996, at the center.
She was born March 31, 1909, in Bethlehem, Pa.
She was a factory worker.
She lived in the Allentown, Pa., and Philadelphia areas for many years.
She was the last of her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of South Mountain Restoration Center in South Mountain, with the Rev. Joseph Caroline as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Andrews Cemetery.
Friends may call 15 minutes prior to Mass.

Lillian H. Kossak
BOONSBORO - Lillian H. Kossak, formerly of Shaker Heights, Ohio, died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home in Boonsboro.
Born in Cleveland, she was the daughter of the late Katharine and Julius Kossak.
She retired from the Cleveland Public School System in 1960, after teaching social studies for 44 years. She was the director of social studies in her area and was responsible for compiling a comprehensive curriculum for the Cleveland School System.
She taught for two years at the American School in Furth, Germany. In 1959 she received the Freedom Foundation Valley Forge Award, one of the highest awards in teaching in the United States.
She was a long-time member of Christ Episcopal Church in Shaker Heights.
She is survived by two nieces, Marian E. Dickard of Euclid, Ohio, and Lillian A.C. Burke of Smithsburg; one nephew, Donald D.J. Burke of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three great-nieces; and three great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Burke; and one brother, Harry.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family at Christ Episcopal Church in Shaker Heights. Burial will be in Knollwood Cemetery in Cleveland.
