Lloyd L. Shoemaker Sr.

DOWNSVILLE - Lloyd Leon Shoemaker Sr., 75, of 15915 Dellinger Road, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born Nov. 8, 1921, in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late William and Nanny Mae Skelton Shoemaker.

He was employed as a supervisor for the Maryland Highway Department for 35 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of St. James Brethren Church.

He also was a member of AARP, Conococheague Tribe 84 International Order of Red Men, Moose International, Moose 25 Club, Legion of the Moose, a former member of Hagerstown Lodge 212 Loyal Order of Moose, and Izaak Walton League of America-Berkeley County, W.Va.

He was one of the last trolley conductors on the Hagerstown-Williamsport street car line.

He is survived by two daughters, Patti A. Lilley of South Bend, Ind., and Linda D. Davis of Williamsport; three sons, Lloyd "Jim" Shoemaker Jr. and Tommy L. Shoemaker, both of Hagerstown, and Richard "Dick" Shoemaker of Halfway; one brother, Leonard Shoemaker of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his long-time companion, Ruth Rogers of Downsville.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Hollis Shoemaker.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conocheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. James Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.

Friends may call at the funeral home today after 9 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Sharon H.H. Neubauer

WILLIAMSPORT - Sharon H. Hooper Neubauer, died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, in Williamsport.

She was the daughter of Helen Hooper of Buffalo, N.Y., and the late William Hooper.

She was educational director for Cedar Ridge Ministries in Williamsport.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin A. Neubauer; two children, Jill Colvin and Suh Si; one sister, Karen Yokum; one brother, William Hooper Jr.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Epiphany United Church of Christ, 2205 Genesee St., Buffalo.

The family will receive friends at Rapin Funeral Home Inc., 2407 Genesee St., Cheektowaga, N.Y., today from 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Harry James Spidle III

CLEAR SPRING - Harry James Spidle III, 23, of Garrison Hollow Road, Clear Spring, died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996, at his home.

Born July 28, 1973, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of Harry J. Spidle Jr. and Janet Thatcher Spidle of Fort Loudon, Pa.

He graduated in 1992 from James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, Pa.

He was employed for a number of years at Newell Enterprises Inc. in Hagerstown.

He was a member of Mercersburg Moose Lodge 1790 in Mercersburg.

In addition to his parents he is survived by one brother, John E. Spidle of Chambersburg, Pa.; maternal grandparents Brooks E. and Ruby A. Thatcher of Spring Run, Pa.; maternal great-grandmother Beulah Thatcher of East Waterford, Pa.; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

There will be no viewing.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon, Pa. with the Rev. Alvin E. Goetz officiating.

Arrangements are by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, Pa.

Charles W. Howell Jr.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Charles William Howell Jr., 80, of 308 Maddex Court, died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996, at Loudoun Hospital Center in Leesburg, Va.

Born March 13, 1916, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles W. Sr. and Emmaline Belle Howell.

He was a retired sheet metal worker with Minnick Co. in Manassas, Va.

He was of the Pentecostal faith.

He was a member of Help Laurel Community Service in Laurel, Md.

He is survived by his wife, Ada Viands Howell; four daughters, Eulah Barger of Martinsburg, W.Va., Gloria Mae Rinker of Charles Town, W.Va., Barbara Jean Fillers of Church Hill, Tenn., and Brenda Fay Stevens of Ranson, W.Va.; two sons, Autry W. Howell and Larry W. Howell, both of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; two sisters, Beulah Mae Gorse of Florida, and Ruth Sutton of Dayton, Ohio; three brothers, Howard Howell of Harpers Ferry, John Howell of Laurel, and Thomas Howell of Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Susan J. Viands, Josephine Rosknick, Mary Campbell, Emmaline Howell and Kathleen Howell; and five brothers, Robert Howell, Lloyd Howell, Paul Howell, Franklin Howell and Jess Howell.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry. The Rev. John Divico will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to his wife, Ada Viands Howell.

Evelyn L. Hosfeld

Evelyn Lorraine Hosfeld, 77, of Ravenwood Lutheran Village, 1183 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 20, 1919, in Ohiopyle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bertha Hiles.

Her first husband, Charles Gochenour, died in 1980.

Her second husband, Kenneth R. Hosfeld, died in 1994.

She is survived by one son, Thomas Gochenour of San Diego; four sisters, Katherine Lapushansky of Lake Milton, Ohio, Connie Dorman of North Jackson, Ohio, Helen Vargo of Phillips, Pa., and Maxine Wolfe of Chalk Hill, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Ann Gilchrist.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Disease Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Suite 5064, 601 N. Caroline St., Baltimore, Md. 21287.

Madalyn E. T. Wheeler

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Madalyn Elaine Trotter Wheeler, 82, of 129 E. 2nd St., died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996, at her home.

Born May 24, 1914, in Fairbanks, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Marjorie Bushby Trotter. She lived most of her life in the Chicago area and moved to Waynesboro in 1990.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew J. Wheeler, in 1978. They were married on April 21, 1938.

She was a member of the St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, Waynesboro.

She also was a member of the local chapter of AARP, and was a volunteer at Waynesboro Hospital.

She is survived by one daughter, Marjorie A. Wheeler of Racine, Wis.; four sons, Matthew J. Wheeler Jr. of San Diego, Michael A. Wheeler of Chicago, John T. Wheeler of Waynesboro and James R. Wheeler of Tallahassee, Fla; one sister, Doris Rath of Havelton, Iowa; two brothers, Bill Trotter of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Warren Trotter of Waukon, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Trotter and Clyde "Sam" Trotter.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family in Chicago. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Chicago.

Local arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Louise E. Campbell

Louise Eleanor Campbell, 78, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.

Born March 26, 1918, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Richard Bennett and Estella Williams.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Campbell.

She attended school in Hancock.

She was employed by the Womens Club and the North Street Day Care Center, retiring in 1980.

She was of the Catholic faith.

She is survived by three daughters, Geraldine Fowlkes, Tina Green and Angela Tobery, all of Hagerstown; two sons, Francis C. Campbell Sr. and William R. Campbell Sr., both of Hagerstown; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a great nephew whom she raised, Carlos Briscoe.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Elaine Bennett.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Watsons Funeral Home, 24 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown. The Rev. G. Nathan Bell and the Rev. Joe Fowlkes will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m.

Anna C. Clevenger

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Anna C. Clevenger, 86, of 508 E. Madison St., and formerly of Florida, died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

Born Dec. 8, 1909, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Herlein Klein.

She retired after 35 years as a long-distance operator with AT&T in New York.

She was a member of Telephone Pioneers, New Jersey Chapter; and a former member of the Humane Society of Citrus County, Fla.

She loved animals and birds.

She is survived by her husband of more than 40 years, Joseph H. Clevenger; cousins; and one sister-in-law.

There will be no services or visitation. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Arrangements were by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home Inc., Greencastle.
