Chester J. Millman, Jr.
SHARPSBURG - Chester John Millman, Jr., 43, of 203 W. Chaplin St., died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 16, 1954, in Honolulu, he was the son of the late Chester John and Ruth Virginia Crandall Millman. He was the stepson of Margaret Abrego of Oceanside, Calif.
He was employed by Good Humor Breyer, Hagerstown.
He attended Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Sharpsburg.
He was a member of Sons of the American Legion, Dixon-Troxell Post 211; and the Williamsport Redman Club.
In addition to his stepmother, he is survived by his wife, Andrea Landolt Millman; one sister, Ruth V. "Ginny" West of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two stepbrothers, Tony Loratto of Mt. Airy, Md., and Frank Loratto of Frederick, Md.; six nephews; and three nieces.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. C. Roger Chewning will officiate. Burial will be Monday in George Washington Cemetery, Adelphi, Md.
The family will receive friends Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thelma F. Day
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Thelma Frances Day, 69, of Kearneysville, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at Integrated Health Services of West Virginia, Charles Town, W.Va.
Born April 7, 1928, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry A. and Anna Myers Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Britton Lee Day, on March 6, 1980.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Leetown Baptist Church, Leetown, W.Va., and the church choir.
She is survived by one son, David Lee Day, of Hedgesville, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Grayson Miller.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Leetown Baptist Church. The Rev. Dennis Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.
Gerald R. Root
KEEDYSVILLE - Gerald Robert Root, 64, of North Main Street, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at his home.
Born March 7, 1933, in Bath, N.Y., he was the son of Eloise L. Gray Root of Boonsboro and the late Charles Roosevelt Root.
He was employed by Bast of Boonsboro and Bast Funeral Home. He retired from General Motors Parts Division, Martinsburg, W.Va., after 28 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of American Legion Post 202, Williamsport; Conococheague Tribe 84 Red Men of Williamsport; and the Boonsboro Bassmasters.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Betty J. Hahn Root, whom he married Jan. 19, 1962; two sons, James E. Root of Sharpsburg and Douglas W. Root of Charles Town, W.Va.; two brothers, David P. Root of Boonsboro and Richard G. Root of Arizona; one granddaughter; one aunt; and two cousins.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Keedysville.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Nina M. Miller
CARLISLE, Pa. - Nina Mae Miller, 87, of Thornwald Home, Carlisle, and formerly of 17 E. Burd St., Shippensburg, Pa., died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at the home.
Born May 20, 1909, in Capon Bridge, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Howell and Ida Snyder Deaver.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W. Miller, on Sept. 17, 1975.
She was employed as a secretary by the Foltz Manufacturing Co., Hagerstown, until her retirement.
She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Shippensburg.
She also was a member of Fort Morris Chapter AARP, Shippensburg.
She is survived by two sisters, Tina Moorehead of Elizabethtown, Pa., and Jessie Cunningham of Romney, W.Va.; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. The Rev. Ernest N. Rumbaugh Jr. will officiate.

James D. Ingerto
STUARTS DRAFT, Va. - James Donald Ingerto, 87, of 609 Forest Drive, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville, Va.
Born April 10, 1910, in Plainfield, N.J., he was the son of the late Anthony and Rose Mary Farrah Ingerto.
He was employed by Mack Trucks Inc., retiring in 1972.
He attended First Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Adella Ingerto; three daughters, Patricia L. Muhr of Reading, Pa., Linda Wright of Stuarts Draft and Carol M. Ingerto of Martinez, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Salvatore Ingerto.
At his request, his body was donated to science for medical research.

CLEAR SPRING - Joseph Richard Smith, 53, of 12631 Spickler Road, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.
Born Oct. 18, 1943, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Kathleen Burns Smith. He was the foster son of the late David Samuel and Lillian Hilda Smith Zimmerman.
He was employed by American Telephone & Telegraph, now Lucent Technology.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
He also was a member of American Legion, Funkstown Post 211; and Telephone Pioneers.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Smith; two daughters, Jennifer L. Giovinazzo of Frostburg, Md., and Robin R. Smith of Hagerstown; one son, Darren J. Smith of Hagerstown; two sisters, Beulah Snyder of Hagerstown and Barbara Ellen Edens of Pittsburgh; one brother, Earl J. Smith of Pennsylvania; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Kenneth J. Dorsch will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Charles E. Branson
INWOOD, W.Va. - Charles Edward "Mouse" Branson, 55, of Inwood, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Oct. 10, 1941, in Shepherdstown, W.Va., he was the son of Charles R. and Jane V. Branson of Shepherdstown.
He was employed by Ponderosa Restaurant, Charles Town, W.Va. He retired from Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va., in 1992, after 22 years.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He coached South Berkeley Little League and Jefferson County Little League for 22 years. He was named Coach of the Year, West Virginia, 1989.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 29 years, Shirley S. Stevenson Branson; one daughter, Tracy Grantham of Shepherdstown; four sons, Todd Grantham of Shepherdstown, Anthony Branson, Jacques Branson and Charles Branson Jr., all at home; two sisters, Rose M. Branson of Silver Spring, Md., and Brenda D. Branson-Johnson of Shepherdstown; one brother, Alva Leon Branson of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara A. Branson and one brother, Rodney Wayne Branson.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 am. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. Charles Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Frank E. Billman
CLEAR SPRING - Frank Elmer Billman, 82, of 13602 Crest Pond Road, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1915, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Frank and Ida McCeasly Billman.
He was employed as superintendent of custodians at the Washington County Court House, Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Stine Billman; three daughters, Jean L. Barbour of Hagerstown, Linda Hendricks and Peggy Ann Billman, both of Council Bluff, Iowa; two sons, Frank E. Billman Jr. of Hagerstown and Thomas J. Billman of Riverside, Mo.; three stepdaughters, Nancy Baker of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Mary Castle of Clear Spring and Rose Henson of Hagerstown; one stepson, Richard Baker Jr. of Clear Spring; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 11 sisters and brothers.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Fullen will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
