Margaret E. Coakley
WILLIAMSPORT - Margaret Elizabeth Coakley, 85, of 32 W. Potomac St., died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1911, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Michael Ford and Sally Beachley Gower.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Coakley, in 1956.
She was employed as a bookkeeper by William Gower & Sons, retiring in 1980.
She was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsport, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by one sister, Frances L. Corwell of Clear Spring; one brother, William L. Gower of Williamsport; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 37 W. Potomac St., Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin and Ruth Rinker, vicar, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, today, from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. today for the convenience of family and friends.

Lenwood J. Hamill
Lenwood Joseph Hamill, 85, of 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, and formerly of North Beach, Md., died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at Western Maryland Hospital Center.
Born May 6, 1912, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late William F. and Mattie Dietz Hamill.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jessie Hamill.
He owned and operated Hamill's Barbershop. He had been employed by Fairchild Aircraft and the Maryland State Roads.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was an altar boy.
He also was a member of BPO Elks 378, Hagerstown; the Moose Lodge in Hagerstown; and the Elks and Moose in Deal, Md.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda R. Heefner Hamill; twin daughters, Susan G. Dove and Sally L. Szarenski, both of Frederick, Md.; four stepdaughters, Audrey Dowler and Nancy J. Carpegna, both of Hagerstown, and Doris V. Davis and Jean F. Kinzer, both of Williamsport; one stepson, Morris B. Heefner Jr. of North Carolina; two sisters, Isabell Waggoner of South Carolina and Virginia Hamill of Hagerstown; one brother, Lawrence J. Hamill Sr. of Hagerstown; 35 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Shirley M. Myers; and one brother, George F. Hamill.
Services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Helen E. Johnson
QUINCY, Pa. - Helen Edna Johnson, 91, of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of Michaux Manor, South Mountain, Pa., and Newlanders Cover, Seneca Lake-Geneva, and Penn Yan, N.Y., died Friday, May 9, 1997.
Born Feb. 18, 1906, in Towanda, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Whitman Moore and T. Blanche Burnett Chilson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Johnson in 1985. They were married in July, 1950.
She was employed as an LPN and worked for 27 years for New York State Mental Hospitals in Rochester, N.Y., Long Island and Willard State Hospital, Avid, N.Y., from where she retired in 1957.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Geneva.
She also was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Seneca Lake Chapter 321, where she was granted life membership on March 10, 1997, in recognition of her many years of service and dedication.
She enjoyed tatting, knitting, crocheting and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by one sister, Lillian Shaver of Waynesboro, Pa.; two nieces; and four nephews.
She is preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Pen Yan. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Geneva.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. There will be an Order of Eastern Star service.

Lillie Fern Divelbiss, 77, who died Thursday, May 8, 1997, was born in Hancock.
Florene C. Stumbaugh
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Florene C. Stumbaugh, 87, of Piney Mountain Continuing Care Center, and formerly of 141 E. Leitersburg St., Greencastle, Pa., died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born March 16, 1910, in Antrim Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles T. and Clemma Coldsmith Hawbaker. She lived with her daughters Barbara Anderson and Frances Davis for three years before entering the home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. "Stummy" Stumbaugh on May 4, 1992.
She was a homemaker. She had worked at the former Greencastle Canning Factory. She also served as a custodian at Otterbein United Brethren Church, Greencastle.
She was a lifelong member of Otterbein United Brethren Church, where she was a member of the Adult Bible Sunday School Class and the Women's Missionary Fellowship.
She is survived by three daughters, Frances L. Davis and Julia C. King, both of Gettysburg, Pa., and Barbara A. Anderson of Greencastle; one son, Harold E. Stumbaugh of Mercersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Anna Mary Myers of Chambersburg, Pa. and Violet Schwartz of Gettysburg; three brothers, Howard Hawbaker and Lloyd Hawbaker, both of Gettysburg, and Lyman E. Hawbaker of Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Nett and two brothers, Stanley Hawbaker and George Hawbaker.
Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Otterbein United Brethren Church. Pastor David G. Rawley and Pastor Andy Paszkowski will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa. The family also will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

John E. Biser Sr.
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - John Edward Biser Sr., 66, of Sportsman's Paradise, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore.
Born Nov. 2, 1930, in Frederick County, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Lewis and Mary Viola Lapole Biser Sr.
He was a self-employed paint contractor.
He was of the Presbyterian faith.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Lee Ponton Biser; four daughters, Jean Peterson, Teresa Hoffman and Pamela Bowers, all of Hagerstown, and Judy Peugh of Falling Waters; four sons, Johnny Biser Jr., Jeffrey Biser, Ricky Biser and Douglas Biser, all of Falling Waters; one brother, Ellsworth Biser of Hagerstown; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Effie Bowers; and two brothers, Charles Biser Jr. and Austin Biser.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Paul Heefner will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Jean S. Zimmerman
BOONSBORO - Jean Shank Zimmerman, 86, of 104 Lakin Ave., Boonsboro, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 12, 1910, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late J. Franklin and Mabel Barger Shank.
She was a 1928 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She owned and operated Zimmerman's Store, Boonsboro, for 34 years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Boonsboro, where she was a former council member.
She also was a member of Rohrersville Homemaker's Club.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred C. Zimmerman, whom she married March 7, 1934; two daughters, Barbara J. Glausier and Sara A. Sweeney, both of Boonsboro; three grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Carroll L. Boyer will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.
LaRue H. Duffy
LaRue Habercom Duffy, 80, of 19730 Beaver Creek Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 30, 1916, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Guy Earl and Jessie Caroline Donaldson Habercom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Joseph Duffy Jr. in 1980. They were married in 1941.
She was a 1937 graduate of Rio Grande University.
She was employed by Milmar Plastics Inc. until her retirement in 1997.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
She was a life member of the the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary, having joined in 1952 when it was reorganized, and serving on the board of directors and as president from 1960 until 1962. She was a member of the League of Women Voters; Washington County Historical Society; Washington County Museum of Fine Arts; Washington County Arts Council; and Auxiliary of Morris Frock Post 42, American Legion. She was a past member of the board of directors of the Cardiac Alumni Club of Johns Hopkins Hospital; past board member of the Business and Professional Women; past board member of the Women's Club; past board member of the Washington County Heart Association and past member of the Washington County Commission for Women.
She is survived by one daughter, Katherine M. "Kit" Duffy of Chicago; one son, Patrick J. Duffy III of Tampa, Fla.; and two half brothers, Mark Habercom and David Habercom.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alan L. Habercom and Guy E. Habercom Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown.
