Boyd Ellis, Jr.
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Boyd Ellis, Jr., 73, of Rt. 1, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996, at his home.
Born Nov. 1, 1923, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Boyd Ellis and Mary Lee Brown Ellis.
He was a 1942 graduate of Hedgesville High School.
He was employed by DuPont for 30 years, retiring in 1983.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II in the South Pacific.
He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church.
He had served as a scout master of Boy Scout Troop 16, Marlowe, W.Va., and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Boy Scouts.
He was a life member of Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW; a member of Berkeley Lodge 37, A. F.&A. M.; a York and Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason, K. C. C. H.; a member of Palestine Commandery 2, Knights Templar and Lebanon Chapter 2, R. A. M.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cathleen Pauline Shanholtz Ellis; one daughter, Barbara June Cline of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two sons, Boyd Timothy Ellis of Martinsburg and Jeffrey Lynn Ellis of Falling Waters; two sisters, Dorothy L. Shickle of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Mary Lou Thomas of Clear Spring; two brothers, Charles L. Ellis of Clearbrook, Va., and James B. Ellis of Martinsburg; four grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Don Gribble officiating.
Burial with Masonic graveside services by Berkeley Lodge 37, A. F.&A. M. will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

The casket will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Master Masons will meet at the Lodge Hall at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
G. Agnes Whetzel
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - G. Agnes Whetzel, 71, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996, at her home.
Born July 14, 1925, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Carroll W. and Maude V. Paggett Zombro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman R. Whetzel.
She was a member of Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW, Ladies Auxiliary; Berkeley Post 14, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary; Martinsburg Chapter 738, Women of the Moose; Ladies of the Elks.
She was a lifetime member of Eagles Club Post 4179.
She is survived by three daughters, Norma Kay Whetzel of Silver Spring, Md., Carolyn N. Stover of Ruidoso, N.M., and Lou Ann Ellis of Martinsburg; one son, George Robert Whetzel of Martinsburg; one sister, Mabel Habig of Charles Town, W.Va.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Annie Mauzy, Dorothy Zombro, Margaret Greer, Myrtle Iker, Frances Chew and Marvis Neale; and two brothers, Joseph Zombro and Charles Zombro.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The Rev. Jack T. Sutor Jr. will officiate.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Elizabeth S. Grimes
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Elizabeth Schaibley Grimes, 87, of Louisville, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996, in Louisville.
She was a native of Waynesboro, Pa., and a former resident of Hagerstown.
She was a partner of the old Grimes Press in Louisville.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth G. Williams of Louisville; one son, Byron J. Grimes II of Richmond, Va.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Highland Presbyterian Church in Louisville.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Henry E. Trinewell
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Henry E. Trinewell, 92, of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of 3505 Mountain Road, Mercersburg, Pa., died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born March 2, 1904, in Cove Gap, Pa., he was the son of the late William and Nettie Caution Trinewell.
He was employed by the following saw mill operators during his life: S. V. Bridendolph; Lee Rockwell; L. J. Rockwell; and John Mellott, all of Mercersburg.
He was last employed by Earl Carbaugh Masonry.
He attended Kings Apostles Holiness Church of God, Cove Gap.
He is survived by eight nieces, Evelyn Stoner, Imogene Firsby, Betty Keith, Janice Keith, Carolyn Keith and Janet Cuff, all of Mercersburg, Leulla Crittenden of Chambersburg, and Helen McKoy of Hagerstown; and 10 nephews, Jack Keith, James Keith, Harry Keith and Charles Trinewell Jr., all of Mercersburg, Lawrence Caution, William Caution and Ron Keith, all of Chambersburg, Raymond Keith of Fayetteville, Pa., Kenneth Keith of Seoul, Korea, and Joseph Keith of Phoenix.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Patricia A. Tillman will officiate.
Burial will be in Zion Union Cemetery, Mercersburg.
Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services Friday in the funeral home.
Maurice F. Garver
Maurice Frederick "Red" Garver, 82, of Hagerstown, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996, at his home.
Born April 29, 1914, in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late Carl Leiter and Mable Ruth Miller Garver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel May Garver, on July 29, 1995.
He was employed by the Washington County Board of Education.
He earlier was employed by Beaver Mechanical and Fridinger-Ritchie Co., Inc.
A veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps, he served during World War II with the Black Panther Division.
He was a member of American Legion, Dixon Troxell Post 211, Funkstown.
He is survived by one daughter, Donna J. Settle of Hagerstown; one sister, Mildred Pryor of Smithsburg and one grandchild, Noel Thomas Settle of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Garver Jr.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Ringgold, Md. The Rev. David M. Buchenroth will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. preceding the procession to the cemetery, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Elizabeth M. Dillow
INWOOD, W.Va. - Elizabeth M. Dillow, 54, of Inwood, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 1996, at her home.
Born May 31, 1942, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George and Thelma Hardy Painter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Dillow.
She is survived by one daughter, Margaret L. Dillow of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; two sisters, Ruby LaBelle of Bunker Hill and Isabelle Riggleman of Charles Town, W.Va.; three brothers, George E. Painter and Richard Painter, both of Millville, W.Va., and Donald Painter of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher Scott Dillow and Stewart Edward Dillow; one sister, Margaret Ann Painter; and one brother, Mearle Franklin Painter.
Services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The Rev. Lee R. Strickler will officiate.
Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery.

Earl M. Winpigler
ROCKY RIDGE, Md. - Earl Monroe "Bud" Winpigler, 79, of 9919 Longs Mill Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born June 21, 1917, in Araby, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Marshall and Ida Hamilton Winpigler.
He ran a dairy farm in the Woodsboro area from 1950 until his retirement in 1971.
He earlier was employed as a ship builder in Baltimore.
After retirement, he was a self-employed carpenter.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Chapel of Smithsburg.
He also was a member of the AARP.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys Berger Winpigler; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six sisters, Annie Winpigler, Edna Redmond, Alta Wright, Erma Summers, Grace Horman and Nellie Wachter; and five brothers, Jesse Winpigler, Frank Winpigler, Charles Winpigler, James Winpigler and Lewis "Rush" Winpigler.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Chapel, 12011 Boyer Drive, Smithsburg.
The Rev. Jonathan D. Laye will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
Friends may call Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Clara Simms
RANSON, W.Va. - Clara Simms, 73, of Ranson, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996, at Shenandoah Nursing Home, Ranson.
Born May 26, 1923, in Rappahannock County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John P. and Dora L. Young Roy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Simms.
She retired after many years as a domestic worker in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Charles Town, W.Va., where she was on the Missionary Board and served as an usher.
She is survived by one daughter, Veda Sheppard of Jacksonville, N.C.; three sisters, Odetta Roy of Charles Town, Velma Roy of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Mildred Viollins of Washington, D.C.; two half sisters, Ruth McDaniel and Ethel Mae McDaniel, both of Charles Town; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dora Porter, in 1993; and two sisters, Janie Roy and Peaches E. Davis.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, Charles Town.
The Rev. Abner Carey Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Martinsburg.
Friends will be received Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.
