George J. Stetak
AMHERST, Ohio - George J. Stetak, 82, of Amherst, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at Amherst Hospital.
He was born in Chisholm, Minn., and was the son of the late Steve and Helen Stetak.
He was employed by U.S. Steel until his retirement in 1973 after 33 years of service.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst.
He also was a member of United Steel Workers Local 1104; AARP; and St. John/Holy Trinity Lodge Branch 228 of the First Catholic Slovak Union.
He enjoyed arts and crafts, and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Curtsak Stetak; one son, Ernest Stetak of Hagerstown; one brother, Steve Stetak of Lorain, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Stetak and Andrew Stetak.
Services will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. at Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. A mass will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Lawrence Martello will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
William C. Frisby Sr.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - William C. "Bill" Frisby Sr., 68, of 15 Redwood St., died Friday, May 9, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 24, 1928, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late John Clarence and Sarah Catherine Cuff Frisby.
He was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot from 1966 to 1983. He later worked as a truck driver for Jerr-Dan of Greencastle, Pa., and Valley Manufacturing of Waynesboro, Pa. He was last employed as a driver for OSI, Chambersburg.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force from 1946 until his retirement with the rank of staff sergeant in 1966. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
He attended Bethel AME Church, Mercersburg, Pa.
He was a member of Air Force Sergeants Association. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret L. Stoner Frisby, whom he married Dec. 12, 1953; one daughter, Caryn Harclerode of Chambersburg; four sons, William C. Frisby Jr., Ronald E. Frisby and Michael S. Frisby, all of Chambersburg, and Stephen P. Frisby of Hagerstown; one sister, Pauline Spencer of Mercersburg; three brothers, Allen R. Frisby of Mercersburg, Clarence Frisby of St. Louis and Joseph E. Frisby of Hagerstown; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Services will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. Burial will be in Zion Union Cemetery, Mercersburg, at the convenience of the family.
Viewing will be held Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Andrew S. Armstrong
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Andrew Shane Armstrong, infant son of Anthony S. Armstrong and Stacy M. Brindle Eichelberger, of Chambersburg, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born May 8, 1997.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Cody J. Eichelberger; maternal grandparents, Michael and Karen Brindle of Chambersburg; paternal grandfather, John Armstrong of Chambersburg; and paternal grandmother, Dorothy Armstrong of Chambersburg.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Brechbill Cemetery, Hamilton Township, Pa. The Rev. Kenneth Miller will officiate.

Hattie V. Monroe
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Hattie Virginia Monroe, 70, of Shepherdstown, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Sept. 28, 1926, in Shepherdstown, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Grantham and Charity Washington Cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Monroe Sr. in 1982.
She was employed in the dietetic services department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va., until her retirement in 1992 after 30 years of service.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown. She also was a member of the Goldeneers in the church.
She was a volunteer with Good Interfaith Caregivers of Shepherdstown and the Jefferson County Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by seven daughters, Betty Jane Roberts, Joanne Wright, Sara Mae Kidrick and Ruth D. Brown, all of Shepherdstown, Naomi Johnson, Kathy Monroe and Angela Washington, all of Martinsburg; three sons, James W. Monroe and Norman Monroe, both of Shepherdstown and Clyde Monroe of Martinsburg; four sisters, Sara Houser and Mary Jeanette McGraw, both of Stanford, Conn., Jean Morris of Martinsburg and Rosetta Brown of Shepherdstown; five brothers, Edmund Grantham and David Grantham, both of Shepherdstown, Stanford Grantham, Cletus Grantham and Kirk Grantham, all of Ohio; 31 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Lila Grantham and one brother, Charles Cook.
Services will be held Tuesday, at 1 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, W.Va. 480 South, Shepherdstown. The Rev. Ernest D. Lyles Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church.

Michael L. Nelson
MANNHEIM, Germany - Michael L. Nelson, 29, of Mannheim, died Monday, May 5, 1997, at South Regional Medical Center, Fort Lee, Va.
Born March 31, 1968, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of Charles E. Nelson, Columbia, S.C., and Mary Gamble Nelson of Sweetwater, Texas.
He was a 1986 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
He was employed by the U.S. Army, serving with B Company 44 Signal Battalion. He joined the Army on Dec. 1, 1987, serving with the 725th Maintenance Battalion, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He then served with the 61st Ordnance Brigade at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md.
He served from December 1995 to June 1996 in Operation Joint Endeavor.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Stacy Fuller Nelson, whom he married in April of 1988; two daughters, Taylor Delanie Nelson and Victoria Leann Nelson, both at home; one sister, Debra Nelson of North Carolina; two brothers, David Nelson of Sweetwater and Robert Nelson of Tyler, Texas; and maternal grandmother, Betty Butts of Las Vegas.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Thomas R. Brenner will officiate. Burial, with military graveside services conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Carlisle Barracks, Carlisle, Pa., will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
Viewing will be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Margaret E. Ross
Margaret E. Ross, 89, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, May 10, 1997, at her home.
Born June 25, 1907, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late J.L. and Margaret M. Fish Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack M. Ross.
She graduated from high school.
She was employed by the federal government.
She was active in her church.
She is survived by one son, Donald J. Ross of Hagerstown and one stepdaughter, Jeanne Hagen of Walled Lake, Mich.
Services will be private. Burial will be private in Parklawn Cemetery, Chambersburg, Pa.

Edward V. Kauffman
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Edward V. "Bud" Kauffman, 82, of 230 N. Grant St., died Friday, May 9, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Nov. 21, 1914, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late A.B. "Jim" and Clara E. Verdier Kauffman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Maun Kauffman July 3, 1960. They were married June 5, 1938.
He was a 1932 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
He was employed by Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro, until his retirement Aug. 1, 1980.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II in the South Pacific as a radio operator aboard a ship.
He was a member of the Waynesboro Presbyterian Church.
He also was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15; BPO Elks Lodge 731; Eagles Club, Inc.; Order of the Owls Nest 1073, all of Waynesboro; and the National AARP.
He played trumpet with the Zel Smith Band, which later became the Walt Sheldon Band.
He is survived by two nephews, John V. Kauffman of Connecticut and Jeffrey B. Kauffman of West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James D. Kauffman on March 1, 1991.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Charles B. Jessen will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Elizabeth F. Wisler
WERNERSVILLE, Pa. - Elizabeth F. Wisler, 80, of 81 Palm Road, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, May 9, 1997, at her home.
Born in Martinsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Amanda Koontz Wisler.
She was a member of Waynesboro Dunkard Brethren Church, Franklin County, Pa.
She is survived by one brother, John M. Wisler of Waynesboro.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Waynesboro Dunkard Brethren Church. Burial will be in Price's Church Cemetery, Waynesboro.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
