Leroy B. Reid
Leroy B. Reid, 41, of Hagerstown, and formerly of 333 E. Piccadilly St., Winchester, Va., died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Center in Hagerstown.
Born April 13, 1956, in Clarindon, Jamaica, he was the son of Carmeta Reid of Clarindon, and the late Daniel Reid.
He was a member of St. Paul's A.M.E. Church of Winchester.
He is survived by one son, Omar Reid of Clarindon; five sisters, Janette Reid, Audrey Reid, Paulette Reid, Norma Thompson and Marcia Brown, all of Clarindon; and three brothers, Solomon Reid, Herbert Reid and Maurice Anderson, all of Clarindon.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Leroy Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Winchester.
Robert F. Long Jr.
WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Robert Francis Long Jr., 59, of 9922 Kelly Road, died Friday, May 9, 1997, at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 22, 1937, in Libertytown, Md., he was the son of the late Robert F. Long Sr. and Erma Catherine Brandenburg Long Green.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a technical sergeant, and was stationed in France, Germany, Africa, Morocco, the Philippines and many places in the United States.
After his retirement from the military, he was employed by Airpax in Frederick, Md., Frederick Automotive and Jenkins Motors in Frederick.
He owned and operated Wings and Things, where he sold whirligigs at various flea markets for the past four years.
He is survived by his wife, E. Irene "Renie" Beachley Long; two daughters, Cynthia Rene Phillips of Frederick and Catherine Marie Kidwell of Walkersville, Md.; one son, Robert F. Long III, stationed with the U.S. Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Ruth Virginia Fogle of Harmony, Md., Sarah Kathleen Gastley of Jefferson, and Martha Ellen Julian of Smithfield, Pa.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Annabelle Martin.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren in Burkittsville, Md. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery in Libertytown.
The family will receive friends at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown, Md., today and Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Friends also may call at the funeral home anytime on Tuesday.
Memorial donations may be made to Long's twin grandchildren, James and Jonathan Kidwell.
Samuel N. Brumbaugh
Samuel N. Brumbaugh, 87, a resident of 18219 Showalter Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, May 10, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 23, 1910, in State Line, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Rhoda Summers Brumbaugh.
He was a livestock dealer in the State Line and Hagerstown areas for more than 37 years, retiring in 1967.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army at various stateside posts.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife, Emma M. Myers Brumbaugh, whom he married June 13, 1942; one sister, Marie Phillippy of Williamsport; two brothers, Edward Brumbaugh of Durham, N.C., and Harold Brumbaugh of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gail Brumbaugh and Virginia Brumbaugh.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa. The Rev. Donald E. Reese will officiate.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Bernard M. McKenrick
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Bernard M. McKenrick, 74, of 6111 Sheller Road, died Saturday, May 10, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Aug. 10, 1922, in Buchanan Valley, Adams County, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence and Viola McKenrick McNew.
He was a truck driver for Plasterer's Florist and Greenhouse Inc. in Chambersburg for 10 years, retiring in 1991. He also was a driver for Valley Transit Mix in Chambersburg for 30 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 in Chambersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Isabel D. Mull McKenrick, whom he married April 3, 1943; one daughter, Nancy B. Bateman of Fayetteville, Pa.; one son, Terry L. McKenrick of Fayetteville; one brother, Howard McNew of Fayetteville; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by one son, Duwane P. McKenrick; and one sister.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Thomas W. Clark
RANSON, W.Va. - Thomas William "Tommy" Clark, 73, of Ranson, died Sunday, May 11, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Jan. 14, 1924, in Boyce, Clarke County, Va., he was the son of the late James A. and Elizabeth Nicodemus Clark.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Muriel I. Brockman Clark, in 1981.
He retired from Western Auto in Charles Town, W.Va., in 1983, after 30 years of service.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Halltown Presbyterian Church in Halltown, W.Va.
He also was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948 in Charles Town.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Sonia L. Rumbarger Clark; one daughter, Muriel "Lucky" Shutts of Middleway, W.Va.; two stepdaughters, Carla Edwards of Ranson, and Donna Bohrer of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Louise Griffith, Bessie Tomlin, Blanche McAtee and Esther Ashby; and one brother, Henry Clark.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.
Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home where Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948 will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m.

Penny L. Purdy
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Penny L. Purdy, 50, of 4490 Statler Road, died Sunday, May 11, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born July 3, 1946, in Denver, she was the daughter of Charles Morrison of Truth or Consequences, N.M., and the late Dorothy Kranisch Morrison.
She attended University of Missouri at Columbia, Mo., and took courses at University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb., and Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Paul J. Purdy; three daughters, Brooke Johnson of Chambersburg, and twins, Noel Joy Purdy of Kansas City, Kan., and Beth Anne Purdy of Chambersburg; one son, Matthew Shane Purdy of Kansas City; three sisters, Charlsey Kelly of South Easton, Mass., Jodie Massingill of Edmund, Okla., and Linda Hansen of Overland Park, Kan.; and one brother, William Rex Morrison of Albuquerque, N.M.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.
The Rev. Glen A. Miller will officiate.
Burial will be private.

Herbert R. Cordell Sr.
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Herbert R. Cordell Sr., 79, of 4219 Altenwald Road, died Sunday, May 11, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Feb. 10, 1918, in Oakville, Pa., he was the son of the late Roy W. and Elsie Clever Cordell.
He was employed at Landis Machine Co. in Waynesboro, retiring in 1982. He previously worked at Etter's Orchard in Chambersburg and grew up on a farm in Fort Stouffer, Franklin County, Pa.
He was a member of Marion United Methodist Church in Marion, Pa.
He also was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 842 in Chambersburg, where he held a fellowship degree and was a Legion member.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Smith Cordell, whom he married Sept. 29, 1941; five daughters, Elsie M. Stoops, Fay D. Adams, Kay A. Hite, and Dee A. Barton, all of Chambersburg, and Dottie J. Helman of Hagerstown; five sons, Roy M. Cordell, John A. Cordell and Winston S. Cordell, all of Chambersburg, H. Russell Cordell of Lehighton, Pa., and Paul L. Cordell of Greenville, Pa.; three sisters, Anna M. Freet of Chambersburg, Hulda G. Russell of Chambersburg, and Fay E. Hoke of Greencastle, Pa.; two brothers, Ross D. Cordell of Waynesboro, and Donald R. Cordell of Greencastle; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and one granddaughter.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - John Andrew Hackimer, 77, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, May 12, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was born April 20, 1920, in Tyre, Pa.
He retired from Giant Food.
He served with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of American Legion in Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Morris Hackimer.
He was preceded in death by one son, Keyth Hackimer.
Services and burial will be private.
