Jeffry A. Windholz

MARTINSBURG, W. Va. - Jeffrey A. Windholz, 51, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Born, Nov. 20, 1945, in St. Paul, Minn., he was the son of Bernice Knick Windholz of Martinsburg and the late Alain H. Windholz.

He was a 1963 graduate of Martinsburg High School and a 1967 graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in journalism.

He was employed in public relations by the The Children's Museum in Indianapolis, Ind. He also was employed as a speech writer by the American Legion National Office. He was recently employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Martinsburg.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as a captain, commanding the Armed Forces Television Network in Korea.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Christopher Windholz and Alain Windholz, both of Gainesville, Fla.; and one sister, Kathy L. Murphy, of Hedgesville, W.Va.

A memorial service will held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr., will officiate. Burial will be private.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library, 101 W. King St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Elizabeth I. Hykes

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Elizabeth Irene Hykes, 78, of 25 Myrtle Ave., died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Nov. 14, 1918, in State Line, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Adry G. and Dessie I. Hause Crunkleton.

She graduated from Greencastle High School in 1937.

She was employed in her father's store, A.G. Crunkleton Electric Co. of Greencastle, Pa., as a secretary from 1937 through 1941.

She was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church in Waynesboro.

She was a member of the Waynesboro School Band Auxiliary and the Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary. She was secretary/treasurer of the Pennsylvania Branch of the National Chinchilla Association. She served as the administrative assistant for Princton Process Inc. for 25 years. She also was a member of the Y-Gradale Sorority and was a former election board official for Ward I.

She is survived by her husband, Edgar Harold Hykes, whom she married on Nov. 23, 1939; three daughters, Lois I. Rowe of Gilroy, Calif., Charlotte M. Hardy of Birmingham, Ala., and Patricia J. Malarz of Camp Hill, Pa.; one sister, E. Marie Minnich of Chambersburg, Pa.; one brother, Robert G. Crunkleton of Greencastle; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Wilbur L. Sites will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alice M.K. Easterday

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Alice M. Kershner Easterday, 85, of 105 Sunnyside Ave., died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at the home of her son, Ray Easterday Jr. of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.

Born Aug. 2, 1911, near Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Elsworth and Martha Belle Whitmore Kershner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Earl Easterday, on March 26, 1975.

She was a 1929 graduate of Greencastle High School; a 1932 graduate of Hagerstown Nursing School and did her post graduate work in 1935 at Manhattan Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, New York.

She was employed by Waynesboro Hospital and Western Maryland Center, Hagerstown, as a registered nurse. She also assisted with the bloodmobile in the Greencastle and Waynesboro areas.

She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro.

She also was a member of Sigma Beta Phi Sorority; and Waynesboro AARP Chapter 739.

In addition to her son, she is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Kershner Shoemaker of Sharpsburg; one brother, Harold Kershner of Penn Hall, Chambersburg, Pa.; two granddaughters, Jeri Ann Easterday of New York City and Joleen M. Easterday of Slippery Rock, Pa.; and one step grandson, Chris Chandler of Waynesboro.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Kershner Ommert.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, Pa.

The family requests the omission of flowers, and suggest memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 1075 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, Pa. 17325.

Arrangements are by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Eunice I. Mills

NEWARK, Del. - Eunice I. Mills, of 76 Welsh Tract Road, Unit 305, Villa Belmont Condos, and formerly of 133 N. Main St., Mercersburg, Pa., died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at ManorCare Health Services, Wilmington, Del.

Born in Williamson, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Norman I. and Flora Belle Hoover Higgins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Mills, on July 9, 1982.

She was employed as a floor lady at dress factories in the Mercersburg and Fort Loudon, Pa., areas.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Newark. She was a past member of the former Lutheran Church of Lemasters, Pa.

She also was a former member and past president of Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241 Ladies Auxiliary, Mercersburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Ann Burkholder of Newark; two sisters, Hazel Sites of Marion, Pa., and Edna George of Chambersburg, Pa.; two brothers, William Higgins of Chambersburg and Karl Higgins of Greencastle, Pa.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. the Rev. LaDonna E. Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters.

There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Memorial donations may be made to the Richard W. Burkholder Scholarship Fund, Penns Grove High School, 334 Harding Highway, Carney's Point, N.J. 08069.

Charles E. West

Charles Edward West, 65, of 58 Devonshire Road, died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 8, 1932, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Roy Irving and Edna Frances Shank West.

He was employed by Western Maryland Railroad and CSX Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1994.

He attended Mountainview Baptist Church.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 694; Redmen Conococheague Tribe 84; United Transportation Union Local 633; Municipal Golf Course, and former member of the Isaac Walton Club.

He was a former caddy master at Fountainhead Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene M. West; one daughter, Susan Diane Williams of Williamsport; two sons, Michael E. West and Robert Wayne West, both of Hagerstown; four sisters, Pearl Jane West Silvers, Rita Dolores West Higgins, Nancy Louise West Palmer and Linda Diane West, all of Hagerstown; two brothers, Irving R. "Bump" West of Hagerstown, and David Warren West of Williamsport; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Beatrice Virginia West and Edna Frances "Franny" Penwell; and two brothers, Hubert Roy "Sonny" West and Roy Irving West Jr.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jonathan D. Laye and the Rev. Bill Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Stanley W. Cummins

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Stanley W. Cummins, 68, of 12222 Polktown Road, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born Nov. 26, 1928, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Frank F. and Hilda Miller Cummins. He also had lived in the Zullinger, Pa., area.

He was employed as a brick mason for a number of years, then was employed by Mack Trucks in 1967. He retired on June 8, 1987. After his retirement, he transferred cars for Lynn Chevrolet and Brake Pontiac, both of Waynesboro, Fitzgerald Toyota, Chambersburg, Pa., and Younger Toyota, Hagerstown.

He attended Calvary Assembly of God Church, Waynesboro.

He also was a member of the National AARP.

He sang bass for the former Singing Inspiration group, Waynesboro.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, F. Lucille Whitmore Cummins; two daughters, Barbara K. Hummer of Waynesboro and Sherry L. Campana of Glen Allen, Va.; one son, Michael W. Cummins of South Mountain, Pa.; two brothers, Frank Cummins of El Cajon, Calif., and Robert E. Cummins of Herndon, Va.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Chad E. Campana; and one brother, Melvin L. Cummins.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Dwan N. Newsome and Pastor Walter A. Stuart will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy, Pa.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

William M.H. Smith

LEITERSBURG - William M.H. "Max" Smith, 65, of Leitersburg, and formerly of Smithsburg, died Thursday, May 15, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Nov. 9, 1931, in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late Clarence F. "Tucker" and Levie N. Moser Smith.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served during the Korean War.

He is survived by one daughter, Lorraine E. Kline of Leitersburg; one sister, Irene E. Pryor of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lewis D. Smith.

Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Bryan R. Bailey will officiate.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Mary V. Showe

Greenville, S.C. - Mary Virginia Showe, 87, of Oakmont East Nursing Home, Greenville, and formerly of 230 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at the home.

Born Nov. 19, 1909, in Brunswick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Michael Kirby and Lillie L. Morrow Moore.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon H. Showe, in 1962.

She retired from Hagerstown Trust Co. after 31 years.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

She is survived by one cousin, Eugene C. Reid of Baltimore, Md.; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg. The Rev. Edward Heim will officiate.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Arrangements are by Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro.
