Joseph L. Palmer Sr.
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Joseph L. Palmer Sr., 45, of Route 1, died Sunday, May 18, 1997, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Helen I. Kann Palmer.
He was employed with U.S.A. Cartage in Williamsport.
He was a member of Flying Feathers Bowling League at Dual Lanes, the Sunday Night Dart League and the Sunset Team of the Tavern Softball League.
He is survived by one daughter, Vanessa L. Hafer of Hagerstown; one son, Joseph L. Palmer Jr. of Falling Waters; one sister, Delores Reed of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.
A joint service for Palmer and his wife, W. Jean Palmer, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
W. Jean Palmer
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - W. Jean Palmer, 45, of Route 1, died Sunday, May 18, 1997, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Annie E. Cromer Newlin of Hagerstown and the late Donald J. Newlin.
She was employed at Pure Pizzazz.
She was a member of Flying Feathers Bowling League at Dual Lanes, and the Sunday Night Dart League.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Vanessa L. Hafer of Hagerstown; one son, Joseph L. Palmer Jr. of Falling Waters; two sisters, Judy A. Beatty of Hagerstown, and Jenny Goge of Williamsport; one brother, James D. Newlin of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.
A joint service for Palmer and her husband, Joseph L. Palmer Sr., will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Virginia D. VanDyke
Virginia Dare VanDyke, 83, of 11403 Stonecroft Court, Hagerstown, died Sunday, May 18, 1997, at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.
Born April 9, 1914, in Wise, Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Laura Forest Artrip Davis.
Her husband, Buford F. VanDyke, died in 1996.
She was a member of Rebekah Lodge in Virginia.
She is survived by two daughters, Martha K. Swarner and Rebecca J. Lewis, both of Hagerstown; two sons, Douglas R. VanDyke of Ferrum, Va., and Ronald L. VanDyke of Richlands, Va.; one sister, Lottie Rider of Baltimore; two brothers, Robert Davis and Carrol Davis, both of Detroit; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Margaret Fields, and one brother, Paul Davis.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Raymond H. Shriver will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.
Visitation will be held today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Raymond E. Kirk
Raymond E. Kirk, 69, of Selema Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, May 16, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 28, 1928, in Duncannon, Pa., he was the son of the late Raymond Eugene and Mary Ann Graham Kirk.
He was employed with Turner Transportation in Hagerstown.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.
He was a member of American Legion Post 211 and Moose Lodge 2435, both of Funkstown, Legion of the Moose Post 10 in Baltimore, and AARP.
He is survived by one sister, Mary Jane Knight of Cumberland, Md.; two brothers, Richard E. Kirk of Hagerstown, and Bud M. Kirk of El Paso, Texas; nieces and nephews; and his companion, R. Beverly Popo.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Delores Short.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.
Arlene R. Kuhn
SABILLASVILLE, Md. - Arlene Rena Kuhn, 76, of 4638 Foxville Road, died Sunday, May 18, 1997, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Born May 12, 1921, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Rena E. Buhrman Kuhn.
She was employed as a domestic worker in Thurmont, Md.
She is survived by one daughter, Jill Arlene Brown of Sabillasville; three sisters, Faye E. Swope of Cavetown, Jane M. Blickenstaff of Sabillasville, and Bonnie Lou Harpe of Hancock; one brother, Richard F. Kuhn of Foxville; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Swope; and one brother, Jack Kuhn.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont. The Rev. Eugene R. Harne will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Bethel Cemetery in Foxville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service on Wednesday.
Lucinda R. Kuhns
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Lucinda R. Kuhns, 82, of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, and formerly of 678 S. Coldbrook Ave., Chambersburg, died Sunday, May 18, 1997, at Menno-Haven.
Born Jan. 3, 1915, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Morris D. and Elsie Rife Wenger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Kuhns, on Nov. 14, 1989.
She was employed by the former Stanley Co., Chambersburg, until her retirement after more than 20 years.
She enjoyed quilting and gardening.
She was a member of Chambersburg Mennonite Church, Chambersburg, Pa.
She was a volunteer at Menno Haven, Chambersburg.
She she is survived by three daughters, Lois Landis of Clementon, N.J., Hazel Frey of Lancaster, Pa., and Julia Young of Greencastle, Pa.; two sisters, Dorothy Finafrock and LuElla Crist, both of Chambersburg; two brothers, Orville Wenger of Scotland, Pa., and Chester V. Wenger of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Vaughn Kuhns; and one brother, Abram Wenger.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Chambersburg Mennonite Church, 1800 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Jerry A. Roth and the Rev. Preston M. Fey will officiate. Burial will be in Chambersburg Mennonite Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Viewing will be held today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home.

Rachelle D.C. Yoder
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Rachelle D. Cranmer Yoder, 42, of 213 Park Circle, died Sunday, May 18, 1997.
Born Sept. 2, 1954, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Robert John and Dorothy Lillian Lentz Cranmer. She lived in Lancaster, Pa., Elizabethtown, Pa., and Tennessee.
She was a 1972 graduate of Elizabethtown Area High School. She then graduated from Coventington Area Vo-Tech in 1988 as a licensed practical nurse.
She was a member of Cornerstone Church of Christ in Chambersburg.
She is survived by two daughters, Cherith Ann Yoder and Grace Joy Yoder, both of Chambersburg; two sisters, Donna Cook of Shippensburg, Pa., and Odessa Trinkle of Maytown, Pa.; three nieces; and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at African Methodist Episcopal Church, 530 S. Main St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Jerry O. Timbrook will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service on Wednesday.

Gerald A. Leberknight
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Gerald A. Leberknight, 85, of 3459 Gleneagles Drive, died Sunday, May 18, 1997, at Shippensburg Health Care Center, Shippensburg, Pa.
Born Oct. 1, 1911, in Orrstown, Pa., he was the son of the late John M. and Mary N. Whisler Leberknight.
He was employed as assistant superintendent with Pennsylvania Department of Highways in Franklin County, Pa., for 23 years.
Prior to that, he was an auditor with the auditor general's and state treasurer's offices in Harrisburg, Pa.
Prior to being employed by the state, he worked at the former Shirt Craft Co. in Shippensburg.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.
He was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Orrstown, Pa., where he served on the church choir, as treasurer of Luther League and as a member of the male chorus.
He was a member of the Franklin County Executive Democratic Committee; a former district chairman for Southampton Township and West End, Shippensburg; and a former Democratic committeeman. He was active in politics for more than 60 years.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel M. Ingram Leberknight, whom he married Oct. 15, 1932; one daughter, Kathryn L. Baughman of Chambersburg, Pa.; one son, Gerald T. Leberknight of Chambersburg; one sister, Erna L. Stepler of Chambersburg; one brother, Dr. Arthur K. Leberknight of Cresco, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 26 Commerce St., Chambersburg.
The Rev. Charles W. Kampmeyer will officiate.
Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.
A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
