Merle Elizabeth Hanlin
LEBANON, Pa. - Merle Elizabeth Clements Hanlin, 86, a resident of Sprang Crest Nursing Home, and formerly of Zullinger, Pa., died Monday, May 26, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born April 30, 1911, in Amherst County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Lillie Belle Ogden Clements.
She was valedictorian for the 1929 class of Fairfield High School in Fairfield, Va.
Her husband, Jesse Edward Hanlin, died in 1963.
They were married in 1936.
She was employed as a cashier at Waynesboro High School for a number of years.
She then did private duty nursing for a time.
She was a former member of Trinity United Brethren Church in State Line, Pa., where she taught Sunday school for a number of years.
She then became a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church in Waynesboro.
She also was a member of Zullinger Homemakers Group.
She is survived by one daughter, Jerle H. Hanlin Martin of Denver, Pa.; two sons, James E. Hanlin of Zullinger, and John G. Hanlin of San Francisco, Calif.; four foster children, Thelma E. Cash of Amherst, Va., Leonard Eaton of Greencastle, Pa., Betty Dodson and James Dodson, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Mary Rachel Draper of Greensboro, Md.; one brother, Ashby E. Clements Sr. of Fairfield, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She also raised two sons of Betty Dodson, Stanley Dodson of Greencastle, and Steven Dodson of Rouzerville, Pa.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elma G. Pennington and Helen M. Hughes; two brothers, Robert W. Clements and James W. Clements; and one foster sister, Louise O. Clough.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.
The Rev. Wilbur L. Sites will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

Russell W. Swope
WELLS TANNERY, Pa. - Russell Wayne Swope, 64, of Star Route 2, died Sunday, May 25, 1997, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, Pa.
Born July 11, 1932, in Wells Tannery, Fulton County, Pa., he was the son of the late Ruth Swope O'Brien.
He worked as an equipment operator for Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife Vera Ritchey Swope, whom he married Aug. 11, 1951; three daughters, Kay Snyder and Connie Seville, both of Wells Tannery, and Ann Morningstar of Everett, Pa.; three sons, Larry Swope of Everett, Gary Swope and Norman Swope, both of Wells Tannery; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Wells Valley Presbyterian Cemetery in Wells Tannery.
Neil Daetz, pastor, will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

John R. Hagenbuch
BOONSBORO - John R. Hagenbuch, 87, of Fahrney-Keedy Home, died Monday, May 26, 1997, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 4, 1910, near Milton, Pa., he was the son of the late Percy and Gertrude Hill Hagenbuch.
His wife, Ola King Hagenbuch, died in 1988.
After completing high school, he moved to Washington, D.C., and graduated from George Washington University with a bachelor of arts degree in business administration and a master of arts degree in accounting.
He was employed by the U.S. government for 35 years in the General Accounting Office, Department of the Air Force and Defense Contract Audit Agency.
He was a member of Fahrney-Keedy Chapel Fellowship.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Lizondo of Annandale, Va., and Marjorie Cockrell Mills, Agoura Hills, Calif.; two brothers, Norman Hagenbuch of Milton, Pa., and Tillman Hagenbuch of Danville, Pa.; one sister, Mary Beaver of Milton; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a friend, Ruth Ecker.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Newman Funeral Home, 179 Miller St., Grantsville, Md.
The Rev. William Shimer will officiate.
Burial will be in Bear Creek Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Fahrney-Keedy Chapel, 8507 Mapleville Road, Boonsboro.
The Rev. Louis Emerick will officiate.

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Paul R. Niswander, 89, of Carroll Lutheran Village, died Monday, May 26, 1997, while visiting his granddaughter in Gaithersburg, Md.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Meadow Branch Cemetery.
Following the graveside service a memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Westminster Church of the Brethren.
The Rev. Paul L. Groff and the Rev. Jimmie L. Schwartz will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Myers Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mildred V. Donaldson
Mildred Viola Donaldson, 92, formerly of 1229 Salem Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at Clearview Nursing Home, where she lived.
Born April 27, 1905, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Lilly Everhart Light.
Her husband, Harold J. Donaldson, died in 1966.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by two daughters, D. Winifred Zimmerman of Clear Spring, and M. Jean Kovacs of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Winifred Martin and Edna Henry, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, Aaron Light and William T. Light, both of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Aura I. Deneen
WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Aura Iola Deneen, 89, of Warfordsburg, died Monday, May 26, 1997, at Avalon Manor in Hagerstown.
Born July 16, 1907, in Warfordsburg, she was the daughter of the late Scott O. and Lillian M. Fisher Deneen.
She was a graduate of Elizabethtown, Pa., State Teachers' College.
She was a teacher at Southern Fulton, retiring after more than 60 years.
She was a member of Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church.
She also was a member of the local and state grange, 4-H Club, and War-Nee-Do Club.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, and one brother.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. John Barlow will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held at the church Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

KEYSER, W.Va. - Elva Grace Bostwick, 97, formerly of Baltimore, a resident of Heartland Nursing Home, died Sunday, May 25, 1997, at the home.
Born Jan. 13, 1900, in Bedford County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Mary Messersmith Diehl.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Davis, and her second husband, James Bostwick.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Baltimore, and St. John's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Carrie Diehl, Clara Mason and Ida Diehl; and five brothers, Russell Diehl, George Diehl, Marshall Diehl, Lester Diehl and Raymond Diehl.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock.
The Rev. Ray Rogers will officiate.
Burial will be in Schreves Chapel Cemetery near Everett, Pa.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open today from 3 to 9 p.m.

FREDERICK, Md. - Raymond Michael Crowe, 62, of Butterfly Lane, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Community Church, 7231 Burkittsville Road, Middletown, Md., with the Rev. John Moore as celebrant.
Burial will be private.
