CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Clark Bowling Jr., 67, of Charles Town, died Monday, May 26, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church in Ranson, W.Va. The Rev. William Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens Cemetery in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Friends will be received at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Stephen Pelesky
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Stephen Pelesky, 70, of 311 Catherine St., died Monday, May 26, 1997, at his home.
Born Feb. 21, 1927, in Jenners, Pa., he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary Lewchak Pelesky.
He attended Boswell High School in Boswell, Pa.
He retired in 1989 after 27 years of employment with Mack Trucks in Hagerstown. After retiring, he worked at Greencastle Greens Golf Course in Greencastle.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Great Cove Golf Club in McConnellsburg, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Sara J. Dipre Pelesky, whom he married Aug. 22, 1953; one son, Stephen D. Pelesky of Gilbertsville, Pa.; five sisters, Nettie Deriscabage in Warminster, Pa., Anna Snitzer of Jennerstown, Pa., Helen Covach and Evelyn Pelesky, both of Jenners, and Mary Simpson of Summerfield, N.C.; two brothers, Joseph Pelesky and Nicholas Pelesky, both of Jenners; two grandsons; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Pelesky; and two brothers, John Pelesky and Michael Pelesky.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 385 S. Ridge Ave., Greencastle. The Rev. Joseph L. Stahura will be celebrant. Burial will be in Somerset County Memorial Park, Somerset, Pa., at 3 p.m. on Thursday, with the Rev. Tomaselli officiating.
The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, today from 7 to 9 p.m., where Greencastle V.F.W. will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m., and the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

Isabel L. Hampshire
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Isabel Lucille Hampshire, 74, of 604 Washington St., died Monday, May 26, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Royce L. Simpson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Louise B. Metz
Louise Baker Metz, 90, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 15, 1906, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Albertus and Julia D. Warner Baker.
Her husband, Joseph F. Metz Sr., died in 1988.
She was a life member of Christ Lutheran Church, and the Queen Esther Sunday School Class. In her early years, she was a Sunday school teacher for 15 years at Trinity Chapel, and was a choir member. She also was a member of the Christian Endeavor Society, and the Women of the Church.
She volunteered at Coffman Nursing Home.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph F. Metz Jr. of Gainesville, Fla., and Jerry P. Metz of Cavetown; one sister, Betty C. Baker Conley Weller of Florida; two brothers, Walter E. Baker of Hagerstown, and Ralph M. Baker of St. James; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel E. Ecton; and five brothers, Robert L. Baker, Jack L. Baker, George O. Baker, Leroy Baker and Charles Melvin Baker.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 216 N. Cleveland Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Raymond H. Shriver and the Rev. William Kercheval will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Robert E. Bittner Sr.
SABILLASVILLE, Md. - Robert Edgar "Bob" Bittner Sr., 86, of 16647 A Sabillasville Road, died Monday, May 26, 1997, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Born Nov. 2, 1910 in Shady Grove, Pa., he was the son of the late Samuel Phillipy and Clara Alice Garman Bittner.
He was employed with the State of Maryland at Victor Cullen in Sabillasville as a farm manager for 32 years, retiring in 1974.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Sabillasville, and served as a deacon and elder of the church.
He was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Louise May Brown Bittner, whom he married Nov. 4, 1933; one daughter, Lois M. Long of Pickerington, Ohio; two sons, Robert E. Bittner Jr. of Sabillasville, and Paul D. Bittner of Thurmont, Md.; two sisters, Dorothy Martin of Fairfield, Pa., and Mary Witmer of Gettysburg, Pa.; two brothers, Howard Bittner of Peru, Ill., and Samuel Bittner of Perry Point, Md.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Carroll F. Bittner and Edwin H. Bittner; and four brothers, John Bittner, Lester Bittner, Harold Bittner and Harry Bittner.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Sabillasville. The Rev. David Denham and the Rev. Douglas Griffin will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont.

Charles B. Peters
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Charles Bernard Peters, 80, of 2644 St. Paul Road, Lutheran Village, and formerly of 504 A Marsh View Drive, Quincy Village in Quincy Township, Pa., and Winter Haven, Fla., died Monday, May 26, 1997, at Piney Mountain Retirement Home in Fayetteville, Pa.
Born May 27, 1916, in Emmitsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Bernard F. and Gertrude Bowling Peters.
He worked as a railroad conductor for Conrail Reading Railroad until his retirement after 30 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from 1940 to 1945, where he earned the rank of master sergeant. He served as an aerial engineer serving at Schofield Barracks in the Hawaiian Islands. He reenlisted and served as a fighter pilot during World War II in Africa and the European Theater.
He was a member of St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church.
He also was a life member of V.F.W. Post 1599 in Chambersburg, and American Legion Post 0121 in Emmitsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Renfrew Peters of Chambersburg; one daughter, Anna Marie Beulian of Havertown, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Carol R. Norman of Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters, Sister Baptista of the Sisters of Charity of Washington, D.C., Margueritte Wolfe, Teresse Hollinger and Barbara Vaughn, all of Emmitsburg; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Kuhn; and one brother, Sterling Peters.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, corner of North Broad and East Main Street, Waynesboro, Pa., with the Rev. Thomas Hemler as celebrant. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.

Kay L. Jennings
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Kay L. Jennings, 47, of 660 Cumberland Ave., died Monday, May 26, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Jan. 30, 1950, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of Elda Holden Rockwell of Chambersburg, and the late Miner S. Rockwell.
She was a 1967 graduate of Chambersburg High School.
She was employed with the Chambersburg Wal-Mart since the store opened.
She is survived by one son, Matthew S. Hacker of Atlanta; and two brothers, Rodney A. Rockwell of Archer, Fla., and Miner S. Rockwell of Chambersburg.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Milton W. Benny Jr. will officiate. Burial will be private.
There will be no viewing.
Edward W. Cochran
Edward Wareham Cochran, 76, of 18912 Preston Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at his home.
Born March 2, 1921, he was the son of the late James E. and Mildred Wareham Cochran.
He was a 1940 graduate of North Hagerstown High School. He also graduated from M.I.T. in Boston with a degree in aeronautical engineering.
He was employed by Glen L. Martin from 1946 to 1948. He later joined his father at James Edward Cochran & Co. Inc., Hagerstown, and served as president of the company for 36 years, retiring in 1989.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as an aeronautical engineer.
He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, serving as a councilman and in other positions for many years.
He was active in PTA. He served on the Board of Directors of the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts for 17 years. He was Director of the YMCA board for 40 years. He was secretary of the Hagerstown Rotary Club for 17 years and received the Paul Harris Fellows in Rotary. He also served on the board of directors and executive committee of the National Association of Casualty and Surety Agents and was president from 1976-1977. He was a member and past board member of Fountain Head Country Club. He also was a member of the Pegasus Aircraft Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Stickell Cochran of Hagerstown; one daughter, Susan Cochran Leh of Reading, Pa.; two sons, Edward W. Cochran Jr. and Robert Stickell Cochran, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Dr. James E. Cochran of Philadelphia; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
