Elda L. Ott
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Elda Loretta Ott, 71, of Mannings, died Friday, Nov. 22, 1996, at Integrated Health Services of West Virginia, Charles Town, W.Va.
Born July 27, 1925, in Millville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ellis Alfred and Carrie Ella Harder Johnson.
She was employed in the nursing department of the Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va., retiring after 20 years of service.
She was of the Pentecostal faith.
She is survived by four sons, Charles W. Ott Jr. of Millville, Mifflin Grant Ott of Charles Town, Larry Aldrich Ott and Jeffrey Ellis Ott, both of Harpers Ferry; two sisters, Theresa L. Longerbeam of Charles Town and Carol Naomi Painter of Brunswick, Md.; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Edna L. Johnson, and four brothers, Ellard Alden Johnson, Ralph M. Johnson, Lester Grant Johnson and Alfred Howard Johnson.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home. The Rev. Phillip Spitzbergen will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery, Boliver, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Samuel Sagel
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Samuel "Stanley" Sagel, 73, of Boca Raton, formerly of Hagerstown and Shepherdstown, W.Va., died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996 at Hospice-by-the-Sea in Boca Raton.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helena Sagel.
A native of Hackensack, N.J., and a long-time resident of Philadelphia, he spent his career in the garment industry. He moved to Hagerstown in 1969 and was employed by Perfection Garment Co. in Martinsburg, W.Va., as plant manager. He then became president of Perfection Garment Co. and vice president of House of Perfection, responsible for manufacturing at all plants, including Martinsburg and other cities. He retired in 1985.
He was a retired U.S. Air Force major and bomber pilot. He participated in the D-Day invasion.
While a resident of Hagerstown, he served as president of Congregation B'nai Abraham and was active in synagogue affairs.
He was an animal enthusiast and raised the official Shepherd College mascot, "Butch," the ram.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Sagel; two daughters, Ann Przyojski of Panorama City, Calif., and Judy Snook of Delray Beach, Fla.; and two stepsons, Eric Zelnick of Reading, Pa., and Harry Zelnick of Short Hills, N.J.
Services were held Monday, Nov. 18, in Philadelphia with burial in Montefiore Cemetery.

Carl S. Brown
MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Carl Sheldon Brown, 67, of the Long Term Care Unit, Fulton County Medical Center, and formerly of Burnt Cabins, Pa., died Friday, Nov. 21, 1996, at Fulton County Medical Center.
Born Nov. 18, 1929, Dublin Township, Fulton County, Pa., he was the son of the late Edward O. and Nellie Brown Brown.
He was employed as a truck driver.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Central Pennsylvania Teamster's Union Local 614, Reading, Pa., and Burnt Cabins Civic Association.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah "Boots" McMillen, whom he married Aug. 21, 1953; three daughters, Sue E. Wright of Chambersburg, Pa., Carol M. Cisney of Shade Gap, Pa., and Debra K. Cutchall of McConnellsburg; one son, Eddie S. Brown of Shade Gap; one stepson, Dennis K. McMillen of Loysville, Pa.; one brother, Reed Brown of Fort Littleton, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Private graveside services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Clear Ridge Cemetery, Hustontown, Pa. Pastor David Arnold will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

Bessie M. M. Toms
THURMONT, Md. - Bessie Marie Martin Toms, 101, formerly of 13709 Stafford Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1996, at College View Center, Frederick.
Born Aug. 17, 1895, in Creagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late George M. and Emma E. Stambaugh Eichelberger.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin S. Martin, in 1959 and her second husband, Grayson G. Toms, in 1987.
She had been employed by the Frederick Tailoring Co.
She was a member of Creagerstown Reformed Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Rheada M. Shuff of Thurmont; three sons, William C. Martin of Graceham, Md., Floyd C. Martin of Thurmont and Edwin G. Martin of Clearwater Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 1 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main St., Thurmont. The Rev. Kenneth Franklin will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the services.

Eva R. Black
Eva Rebecca Black, 86, of Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown, and formerly of Smithsburg, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 1996, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.
Born Jan. 9, 1910, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Frederick D. and Mazie B. Shank Draper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David E. Black Jr. in 1978.
She attended Peabody Conservatory and was a graduate of Western Maryland College, earning her bachelor of arts degree in music and English.
She taught music in the Smithsburg and Boonsboro High Schools for 10 years and also taught piano for several years.
She was a charter member of Covenant United Presbyterian Church, where she served as organist and choir director for several years.
She was a member of the Washington County Hospital Auxillary; a Red Cross Volunteer and served on the board of the Hagerstown Community Concert.
She is survived by one sister, Mildred Catherine Gamby of State Line, Pa.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at noon at Covenant United Presbyterian Church, 11833 Greenhill Drive, Hagerstown. The Rev. George W. Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends following the memorial serivce.

Evelyn B. Harris
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Evelyn B. Harris, 87, formerly of Bunker Hill, W.Va., died Thursday, Nov. 21, 1996, in Leesburg, Fla.
Born Jan. 18, 1909, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Louis Edward and Elizabeth Olivia Gibson Blank.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Christian Frederick Bonhage, and her second husband, Thaddeus Nease Harris.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She also was a member of the Lutheran Women's Council and the Bunker Hill Mill Creek Homemakers Club.
She is survived by one son, Eugene Louise Bonhage of Lady Lake, Fla.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Avis, one sister, Alice E. Geipe and one brother, Louis E. Blank Jr.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. John D. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Parkwood Cemetery, Baltimore.
The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, Monday, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Thomas S. Fillman Sr.
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Thomas Seaborn Fillman Sr., 74, of Tuscawilla Hills, died Friday, Nov. 22, 1996, at his home under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born Feb. 2, 1922, in Electra, Texas, he was the son of the late Benton Wilson and Nona Maye Stancer Fillman.
He was a 1939 graduate of Electra High School and a 1966 graduate of the University of Omaha.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 22 years. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a chief master sergeant.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Estelle Liles Fillman, whom he married in 1990; two daughters, Tana Hartman of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Teddie Sue Garrigan of Dallas; one son, Thomas S. Fillman Jr. of Van Nuys, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Michael Fillman.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Dec. 2, at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. The Rev. Jim Brackett will officiate.
There will be no visitation.

Mary B. Gearhart
Mary Blanche Gearhart, 86, of 20037 Old Forge Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Nov. 22, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 11, 1910, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Harry Ellis and Bessie Elizabeth Zimmerman Wallick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Gearhart in 1969.
She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Margaret "Peggy" Gearhart of Hagerstown, Mary Clark of Keedysville and Frances Sarco of Smyrna, Ga.; one son, Charles Gearhart of Hagerstown; two sisters, Ruth Green of West Jefferson, Ohio, and Ethel Green of Hagerstown; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, William Gearhart Jr.; one sister; two brothers; and one grandson.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
The Rev. W. Carl Zinn will officiate.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
