Caroline M. Elting
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Caroline M. Elting, 82, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Nov. 22, 1996, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born Sept. 27, 1914, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Katie Boone Rymer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest "Max" Elting, in 1987.
She was employed by Manville Corp., Toledo, Ohio, until her retirement.
She was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs.
She is survived by several cousins.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. E. Dwight Bryne will officiate.

Ralph E. Dorands
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Memorial services for Ralph E. Dorands, 78, of West Main Street, who died Saturday, Oct. 19, 1996, at Milton Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa., will be Friday, Nov. 29 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, corner of South Broad and East Second streets, Waynesboro.

Edna N. Zentmyer
Edna Nora Zentmyer, 78, of 354 Antietam Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 14, 1918, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Minnie Strock Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Zentmyer, in 1966.
She was a former employee of Southern Shoe Co. and was later employed by Fairchild Aircraft.
She was a former member of Women of the Moose.
She is survived by one stepdaughter; one stepson; one sister, Helen Rouzee of Hagerstown; and six nephews.
She was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Elmer C. and Annie Smith Baker, who raised her; four sisters and one brother.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
The Rev. Raymond Lytle will officiate.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Claude E. Fitzgerald
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Claude Eugene Fitzgerald, 76, of Tuscawilla Hills, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Nov. 24, 1919, in Eldorado, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Russell Johnson Fitzgerald and Sarah Ellen McGorman Fitzgerald.
He retired after 38 years of service with Moore Business Forms Inc. as an order department manager.
He was a veteran of World War II, and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in England, Scotland and Ireland.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of DeMolay in Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and Niagara Falls Frontier Masonic Lodge A.F.&A.M.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Lou Threadgold Fitzgerald; three daughters, Karen Pekar of Charles Town, Nancy Roberts of Gurnee, Ill., and Linda Webb of Millersville, Md.; two sons, Tom Fitzgerald of Waterbury, Vt., and Russell Fitzgerald of Kearneysville, W.Va.; one brother, Howard Fitzgerald of Wilson, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and one uncle.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
The Rev. James Chambly will officiate.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the service Wednesday.

Mildred M. Myers
CLEAR SPRING - Mildred Merle Myers, 83, of 11642 Dam No. 5 Road, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at her home.
Born Nov. 23, 1913, in Indian Springs, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Ida Forsyth Hawbaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Myers, in 1966.
She was a graduate of Clear Spring High School, where she was valedictorian of her class.
She was a retired sales clerk with 25 years of service with McKuens Furniture Co.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Clear Spring.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Edna Atwood, Rohda Tedrick, Lola Miles, Naomi Small and Mary Clark Tedrick; and three brothers, Rush Hawbaker, Bill Hawbaker and Crist Hawbaker.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring.
The Rev. Richard Yates and the Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Viola K. Bergey
SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Viola K. Bergey, 104, of South Mountain Restoration Center, and formerly of Philadelphia, died Friday, Nov. 22, 1996, at the center.
Born June 2, 1892, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lily Metzler.
She had been a resident of South Mountain since 1968.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred K. Bergey Sr.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Carole Hanrahan of Skippack, Pa.; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a son, Winfred K. Bergey Jr.
Graveside services will be private and held at the convenience of the family at Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, Pa.

Gertrude R. Willard
Gertrude Rebecca Willard, 89, formerly of 1745 Edgewood Hill Circle, Hagerstown, died Friday, Nov. 22, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 25, 1907, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Howard D. and Gertrude Eichelberger Shrader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Russell Willard, in 1983.
They were married in 1927.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Gene R. Willard of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one niece; and four nephews.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Woodrow W. Helsley
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Woodrow W. Helsley, 78, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born Aug. 2, 1918, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Harry Doyle and Pearl Kesecker Helsley.
He was a 1938 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
He was a veteran of World War II, and served with the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945.
He served with the 201st 3rd Battalion in Alaska and in the Aleutians.
He participated in the invasion of Kiska and Amchitka against the Japanese during World War II.
Upon discharge from the U.S. Army, he pursued a career in mortuary science.
He completed his apprenticeship training and graduated from Cincinnati College of Embalming in Cincinnati.
He acquired his West Virginia Funeral Director's and Embalmer's License in 1948.
He established the Helsley Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs in 1950, now known as Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home.
He owned and operated the funeral home until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member and former deacon of Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church.
He was a charter member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1483, Berkeley Springs; member of Junior Order of United American Mechanics Council 117, Berkeley Springs; and charter member of Risinger-Stotler VFW Post 4019, Berkeley Springs and served as its first president.
He was instrumental in organizing the Morgan County Rescue Squad and served as chairman on the first board of directors.
He was a member of the Humane Society of Morgan County and served on the board of directors for several terms.
He was an active member of the Morgan County Fair and chaired the parade committee.
This event is now known as Berkeley Springs' Apple Butter Festival.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Naomi Lee Michael Helsley; one son, J. Michael Burks of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Libby Easton of Berkeley Springs; one brother, S.D. Helsley, Esq. of Berkeley Springs; two granddaughters; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Odessa Hewett.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
Private burial will be in Wesley Chapel, Cemetery, Frederick County, Va.
