Alice M. Benton
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Alice Marie Benton, 89, of Charles Town, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, at Knott Nursing Home, Charles Town.
Born July 25, 1907, in Kittanning, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Thomas P. and Carrie T. Hogan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Carl Benton on August 20, 1980.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 128, Charles Town; former member of the Charles Town Senior Woman's Club; and the Wayside Garden Club.
She is survived by two sons, William Frank Benton of Greensburg, Pa., and Robert Thomas Benton of Midlothian, Va.; five grandchildren, Aaron T. Benton, Matthew R. Benton, Troy W. Benton, Susan E. Smith and Patricia Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William P. Hogan.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles Town. The Rev. Richard E. Neal will officiate. Burial will be in Worthington Lutheran Cemetery, Worthington, Pa.
Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Friends also will be received at the Duane Snyder Funeral Home, Worthington, on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the graveside service at the cemetery at 11:30 a.m.

George D. Gaylor
George Donald Gaylor, 78, of 1046 Security Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 17, 1918, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late George R. and Mary F. Fouke Gaylor.
He retired in 1980 from the Western Maryland Railroad after 28 years of service. He was previously employed by Hagerstown Equipment Co.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II as a technician 4th grade in the European Theater.
He was a life member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, where he was a lay delegate to the lay conference. He was also a member of the pastor relation committee, the administration board, a Sunday school teacher of the men's class and a member of the choir.
He also was a member of Local 1778 I.B.E.W., of which he was secretary and treasurer until he retired; Hagerstown Chapter Mason Dixon Barber Shop Choir, serving as treasurer; charter member of Ralph S. Tagg Chapter 14, D.A.V., for which he served as treasurer for 30 years; member of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion; Antietam Fire Co.; the Old Timers Club Western Maryland Railroad and the Security Athletic Association.
He is survived by his wife, June M. Price Gaylor; two daughters, Donna J. Gaylor at home and Deanna M. Whitehead of Smithsburg; one grandson and two step grandsons.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Evans M. Brown
HONEYBROOK, Pa. - Evans M. Brown, M.D., 69, of Honeybrook, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Maple Glen, Pa., died Friday, Nov. 1, 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte V. Brown; one daughter, Elizabeth E. Cooke; one son, Andrew J. Brown; and four granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn B. Brown.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Craft/Givnish of Abington, 1801 Old York at Old Welsh Roads, Abington, Pa. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Friends may call Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Ethel A. Bowers
ALBANY, Ore. - Ethel Amelia Bowers, 71, of Albany, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 1996, at her home.
Born Dec. 3, 1924, in Reading, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William A. and Florence H. Haas Rodgers.
She received her education in Pennsylvania.
She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Auburn, Calif.
She is survived by her husband whom she married Feb. 10, 1945, Bruce A. Bowers; two sons, Dennis Bowers of Albany and Terence Bowers of Womelsdorf, Pa.; one sister, Grace Kercher of Reading; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Auburn. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the New Norborne Cemetery.

Brenda K. Blankenship
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Brenda Kaye Blankenship, 39, of Parkview Trailer Court, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born July 3, 1957, in Leesburg, Va., she was the daughter of Charles Clifton Jewell Jr. of Orchard Hills, Ranson, and the late Anna Lee Orndoroff Jewell. She was the stepdaughter of Nancy Jewell of Orchard Hills.
She was a graduate of Loudoun Valley High School, Purcellville, Va.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Trinity Gospel Assembly of God Church.
In addition to her father and stepmother, she is survived by her husband, Franklin D. Blankenship; two sons, Timothy Blankenship and Zackery Blankenship, both at home; three sisters, Pamela Conley of Ranson, Lisa Kingsburg of Sharpsburg and Rachelle Swart of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, Duane Jewell of Manassas, Va.; and maternal grandparents, Charles and Edmonia Jewell of Charles Town.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Gospel Assembly of God Church, Route 9, West, Charles Town. The Rev. John Divico will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Dorothy J. Carter
STRASBURG, Va. - Dorothy Jean Carter, 72, of 120 Wise Ave., and formerly of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at her home.
Born Dec. 19, 1923, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Lewis McComas and Sarah Elizabeth Dickerhoff Weaver.
Her husband, James Alvey Carter, died in 1994.
She was employed with Baker Insurance in Hagerstown until her retirement in 1994 and was previously employed with Wilcraft Hosiery Co. in Williamsport.
She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God in Front Royal, Va., where she was active in the women's ministry. She was a former member of Virginia Avenue Church of God in Hagerstown.
She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Belle Sisler of Hephzibah, Ga., and Patricia Ann Bradley of Strasburg; one sister, Sara "Sadie" Mongan of Williamsport; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Hill and Adelaide Morris.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Virginia Avenue Church of God in Hagerstown. The Rev. Donald R. Bradley and the Rev. Greg Wold will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.
The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, today from 7 to 9 p.m.; however the funeral home will be open today at 9 a.m.

Hazel A.H. Smith
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Hazel A. Hayes Smith, 62, of 35 E. Baltimore St., died Friday, Nov. 22, 1996, at Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, Pa.
Born April 8, 1934, in Danville, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Robert I. and Ruth King Hayes.
She was a graduate of Danville High School, and completed one year of studies at Danville College.
She worked as a waitress for a number of years at various restaurants including the Brown Derby in Danville.
She was a member of East Park Church of Christ in Danville.
She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Danville.
She is survived by one daughter, Diane E. Medina of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; two sons, Kenneth W. Smith of Roanoke, Va., and Robert J.E. Smith of Danville; one sister, Ruby Wattrous of Watachie, Texas; one brother, Robert I. Hayes of Danville; and a companion of 35 years, William H. Crippin of Greencastle, and formerly of Danville; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Everett M. Hayes.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Amanda M. Smailes
INWOOD, W.Va. - Amanda Marie Smailes, 21, of Inwood, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 1996, as the result of an automobile accident.
Born March 21, 1975, in Frederick, Md., she is the daughter of John A. and Cynthia S. Matthews Smailes of Inwood.
She was a third year nursing student at Shepherd College and a member of the Judicial Review Board.
She was a 1993 graduate of Musselman High School, where she lettered in track and was president of the Bible Club. She also was a member of the band and flag corps.
She previously attended Ravenswood High School, where she lettered in tennis.
She worked part-time at Wal Mart.
She was a member of Covenant Baptist Church, where she was a head usher.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Christina Smailes Keller of Inwood, and Pamela Dawn Smailes, at home; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Naomi Matthews of Cottonwood, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Elbert and Catherine Smailes.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Ron Larson, pastor, will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Janet M.R. White
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Janet M. Royer White, 81, of 12925 Old Forge Road, died Saturday, Nov., 23, 1996, at Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro.
Born Sept. 25, 1915, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Garfield and Maude Daisey Holtzman Royer.
Her husband, Jack W. White, died in 1980. They were married in November 1935.
She was a 1933 graduate of Greencastle High School in Greencastle, Pa.
She was employed by the Waynesboro Area School District as the head cook at Wayne Heights Elementary School for a number of years.
She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro.
She also was a member of South Chapter AARP No. 2977, Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary, both of Waynesboro, and the National AARP. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and for Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary in the snack bar.
She was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by one daughter, Constance "Connie" L. Martin of Frederick, Md.; one son, Jack R. White of Waynesboro; one sister, Mildred Spangler of Waynesboro; five brothers, Paul F. Royer, Samuel K. Royer, Robert L. Royer and Ralph R. Royer, all of Waynesboro, and James G. Royer of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel L. Keough and Katherine Gardenhour; and three brothers, Richard Royer, John K. Royer and Donald Royer.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate.
There will be no public viewing.

Edgar L. Kidrick Sr.
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Edgar Lee Kidrick Sr., 83, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Feb. 3, 1913, in Shepherdstown, he was the son of the late Nelson and Lucy Whiting Kidrick.
He retired after 35 years with Norfolk and Western Railroad.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of Brotherhood of Railroad Workers of America.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Emma B. Dozier Kidrick; two daughters, Patricia A. Kidrick of Shepherdstown, and Carrie A. Mosby of Hagerstown; four sons, Edgar L. Kidrick Jr. of Martinsburg, and Charles N. Kidrick, Ronald W. Kidrick and Rudolph Brown, all of Shepherdstown; two sisters, Blanche Washington and Zelia Reid, both of Shepherdstown; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Norma G. Grantham; and one sister, Lucinda Kidrick.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, W.Va. 480, Shepherdstown. The Rev. Charles Hunter and the Rev. Joe Liles will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
Friends will be received at the church Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
