Harry J. Crum
BOONSBORO - Harry Joshua "Sam" Crum, 85, a resident of Reeders Memorial Home, formerly of 20917 Netz Road, Boonsboro, died Friday, Dec. 13, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 20, 1911 in Hagerstown, he was a son of the late Harry Daniel and Jennie Sisk Crum.
He was a former employee of Fairchild Aircraft, and retired after 38 years with Beachley Furniture Company in Hagerstown.
He was a former member of Co. B, 1st Infantry of Maryland National Guard.
He was a member of Boonsboro Volunteer Fire Co.
He is survived by his wife, Elvia May Leggett Crum, whom he married Aug. 19, 1933; a daughter, Joan E. Glenn of Stephenson, Va.; a son, Harry D. Crum of Waynesboro, Pa.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Crum, and four brothers, George Crum, Richard Crum, Raymond Crum and Wilbur Crum.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. James. J. Caldwell and the Rev. Marlin Mauk will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Douglas L. Duty
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Douglas L. Duty, 56, of Harpers Ferry, died Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born May 24, 1940, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late William H. and Mary Kersey Duty.
He worked for the U.S. government.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Carpenters District Council Local 1665 in Alexandria, Va.
He is survived by three brothers, Joel Duty of Rockville, Md., John Duty of New Mexico and Bill Duty; two half brothers, Darrell and Dwayne Duty; one half sister, Denise Duty of Seattle, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will be held privately in Hardwood, Va.
There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are by the Rosedale Funeral Chapel.
Rev. Mark G. Wagner
WILLIAMSPORT - The Rev. Mark G. Wagner, 89, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Friday, Dec. 13, 1996, at the Homewood Retirement Center.
Born Oct. 12, 1907, in Bath, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Boyer and Mamie Bartholomew Wagner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Mary Smith Wagner in 1981.
He was Superintendent Emeritus of the Homewood Retirement Centers of the United Church of Christ.
He was a graduate of Moravian College, Bethlehem, Pa., and the Lancaster Theological Seminary.
He was a charter member of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Halfway, and past president of the Hagerstown Lions Club.
He is survived by two sons, the Rev. Roderick J. Wagner of Williamsport, and Conrad D. Wagner of Collegeville, Pa.; eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, with the Rev. Willard Rahn officiating. Burial will be in the Green Mount Cemetery in Bath, Pa., at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Frank W. Thompson Sr.
Frank William Thompson Sr., 59, of 100 Willard St., died Saturday, Dec. 14, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 24, 1936, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Daniel E. and Nora L. Hiser Thompson Sr.
He was owner and operator of Thompson's Used Tires in Hagerstown.
He was a member of Maranatha Brethren Church.
He also was a member of National Rifle Association.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ernde and Pamela Reed, both of Hagerstown; one son, David Thompson of Hagerstown; three sisters, Mary Swope, Helen Thompson and Evelyn Marks, all of Hagerstown; two brothers, Robert Thompson and Daniel Thompson, both of Hagerstown; a companion, Linda Kemp of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Frank Thompson Jr.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard D. Godfrey will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Dorothy C. Knicley
Dorothy Catherine Knicley, 77, of Hagerstown, who died Thursday, Dec. 12, is survived by a son, Robert C. Knicley of Hagerstown.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Ruth G.F. Puffenburger
GANOTOWN, W.Va. - Ruth Georgianna Frye Puffenburger, 82, of Ganotown, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 1996, at her home.
Born March 18, 1914, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George Newton and Minnie D. Dunham Frye.
Her husband, Chester Puffenburger, died in 1966. They were married Dec. 7, 1947.
She was retired and previously employed by Perfection Garment Shop, C.H. Musselman Co. and Albright's Tailoring Shop.
She was a member of Central Chapel in Ganotown, where she was active in the Ladies Mission Group, the church choir, and served as a deaconness.
She was a member of the original Frye Family Quartet, along with her father and brothers.
She is survived by three daughters, Anna R. Puffenburger, Lucy D. Pappas and L. Sue Bowers, all of Ganotown; one son, D. Thomas Puffenburger of Ganotown, with whom she resided; two sisters, Mary F. Clark of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Madeline F. Collis of Shanghai, W.Va.; one granddaughter; seven grandsons; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline F. Bayer and Ruby V. Gageby; and four brothers, Bernard S. Frye, W.W. Wayne Frye, G. David Frye and Elwood S. Frye.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Central Chapel Church in Ganotown. The Rev. Frank S. Douty and the Rev. Rodney Spade will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Edna J. Gray, 64, of Route 1, died Friday, Dec. 13, 1996, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born March 9, 1932, in Neptune, N.J., she is the daughter of George Tomes Sr. of Flint Hill, Mich., and the late Cora Disbrow Tomes.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Norwood E. Gray; one daughter, Aileen Washington of Monticello, N.Y.; four sons, Norwood J. Gray Jr. of Jacksonville, Ark., Joseph Gray of Monticello, Roy Gray of Rock Hill, N.Y., and Ernie Gray of Easton, Pa.; two sisters, Esther Hoover of Levittown, Pa., and Ella Hall of Neptune; five brothers, Albert Tomes of Pottstown, Pa., Lester Tomes of Bricktown, N.J., James Tomes of Neptune, Richard Tomes of Bayville, N.J., and George Tomes Jr. of West Deal, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, John E. Gray.

Jessie C. Taylor
NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. - Jessie Cushwa Taylor, 32, of 131 Sparta Road, died Friday, Dec. 13, 1996.
Born April 24, 1964, in Arlington, Va., she is the daughter of John Dominic Cushwa of Hagerstown and Carol Westerlund Cushwa of North Wilkesboro.
She was a graduate of Wilkes Central High School.
She was formerly employed by Wilkes Vocational Workshop and ADAP.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Rodney Monroe Taylor; one sister, Jennifer Lawson of North Wilkesboro; one brother, John Dominic Cushwa II of Silverthorne, Colo.; and grandmother, Phyllis R. Kendrick of Wilkesboro, N.C.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at St. John's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Frank Cincula as celebrant.
