Herbert E. Werdebaugh
HANCOCK - Herbert E. Werdebaugh, 72, of Myers Street, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 1996, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 1, 1924, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clarence and Ollie Hovermale Werdebaugh.
He retired from Statton Furniture Manufacturing Co. in Hagerstown.
He was of the Presbyterian faith.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Fritzman Werdebaugh, whom he married on April 8, 1950; one daughter, Darlene Kay Mellott of Hancock; one son, Ronnie Werdebaugh of Warfordsburg, Pa.; one brother, Melvin Werdebaugh of Littlestown, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Hovermale and Dorothy Payne; and one half-brother, Foster Hovermale.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock.
The Rev. George Lashley will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. today.

Robert F. Hope Sr.
KNOXVILLE, Md. - Robert Franklin Hope Sr., 84, of 2817 Point of Rocks Road, died Monday, Dec. 16, 1996, at College View Nursing Home, Frederick, Md.
Born April 1, 1912, in Lucketts, Va., he was the son of the late John Alexander Hope and Mary Pleasant Howser Hope.
He was a retired farmer.
He also was a retired welder for Standard Building Systems at Point of Rocks, Md.
He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Brunswick, Md.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Snoots Hope; one daughter, Mary L. Kelly of Middletown, Md.; four sons, Robert F. Hope Jr. of Libertytown, Md., Carroll L. Hope of Thurmont, Md., Stanley E. Hope of Hagerstown and Thomas E. Hope of Frederick; one sister, Lillian Stowers of Leesburg, Va.; three brothers, Richard Hope of Leesburg, John A. Hope of Knoxville and Forrest K. Hope of Frederick; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Hope.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, Brunswick.
The Rev. Stephen A. Swift will officiate.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Beulah M. B. Stine
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Beulah M. Beck Stine, 98, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of 311 W. Third St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 15, 1996, at the nursing home.
Born Jan. 2, 1898, near Gettysburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Ida Jane Carbaugh Beck.
She lived her early life near Gettysburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Denton Stine, in 1982.
She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church, Waynesboro.
She is survived by three daughters, Hilda R. Sangree of Enola, Pa., Marilyn R. Stouffer and Gloria M. Stine, both of Waynesboro; one stepdaughter, Helen Kuhn of Chambersburg; five sons, Ambrose J. Stine of St. Thomas, Pa., Preston R. Stine of Waynesboro, Roy H. Stine of Florida, Harold E. Stine of Greencastle, Pa., and Ronald E. Stine of Linglestown, Pa.; 28 grandchildren; and great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Robert Dean Stine, Lawrence C. Stine and Kenneth G. Stine; one stepson, Samuel D. Stine; one granddaughter; and one grandson.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
The Rev. Walter A. Stuart will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service Thursday.

Albert W. Stouffer
BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Albert W. Stouffer, 66, of 13414 South Ave., died Sunday, Dec. 15, 1996, at his son's home at 185 Sour Marsh Trail, Fairfield, Pa.
Born Feb. 28, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Robert F. and Margaret V. Crunkleton Stouffer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ilse G. Jordan Stouffer, on Nov. 21, 1996.
He retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of master sergeant.
He served several tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam.
He was a member of American Legion Post 239, Cascade; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 842, Chambersburg, Pa.; Blue Ridge Sportsmen's Association Inc., Fairfield; and was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Post 105, Gettysburg, Pa.
He is survived by one son, Gregory S. Stouffer of Fairfield; one brother, John H. Stouffer of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and two sisters, Sandra J. Holland of Elkton, Md., and Karen A. Koontz of Hagerstown.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Lorelei B. Bowers
BOONSBORO - Lorelei B. Bowers, 75, of Boonsboro, died Friday, Dec. 13, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 24, 1921, in Thompson Township, Fulton Co., Pa., she was the daughter of the late Wylie Erby and Flora Garland Booth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira W. "Willie" Bowers, in 1987.
She was a graduate of Shippensburg University.
She retired as a school teacher from the Washington County Board of Education after 38 years.
She was past president of the Antietam Lioness Club; current president of Boonsboro American Legion Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary; and president of Boonsboro Free Library.
She is survived by three sisters, Nena B. Clark of Williamsburg, Va., Genaiavie B. Stafford of Mercersburg, Pa., and Patricia B. Lees of Naples, Fla.; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Eileen Delores Booth Doles.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Pennsylvania Avenue, Smithsburg.
The Rev. Kenneth Harrington will officiate.
Burial will be in Damascus Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

LOVETTSVILLE, Va. - Rosalie Tobery Huse, 55, of Lovettsville, died Monday, Dec. 16, 1996, at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Va.
Born Oct. 2, 1941, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clifford U. Tobery and Grace K. Roberts Jewell.
She had worked as a nurse in private home care.
She was a member of the New Apostolic Church and choir.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford L. Huse; one daughter, Doris I. Berry Reynard of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; three sons, Reed A. Huse of Hagerstown, Charles W. Huse of Frederick and John A. Huse of Charles Town, W.Va.; three sisters, Clara V. Goff and Katherine I. Mock, both of Frederick, and Doris M. Mock of Hagerstown; six brothers, William Kruger of Hagerstown, John T. Tobery and Reed D. Jewell, both of Frederick, Clifford E. Jewell of Gaithersburg, Md., Robert W. Jewell of Thurmont, Md., and Frank W. Jewell of Brunswick, Md.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Ernest T. Hickman of Lovettsville.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vickie Marie Berry Johnson; and one great-grandson.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Grace B. Gaver
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Grace Brandenburg Gaver, 96, formerly of Franklin Street, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 1996, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home, Boonsboro.
Born Dec. 27, 1899, in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Clayton and Martha A. Bussard Brandenburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Gaver, in 1985.
She was a member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Middletown.
She was the last of her immediate family.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown.
The Rev. Mark A. Wakefield will officiate.
Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.

Hulda P. Block
Hulda Petzing Block, 98, of 1094 Kasinof Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 1996, at her home.
Born Oct. 7, 1898, in Shumway, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Herman H. and Amelia A. Strus Petzing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur B. Block, in 1935.
She was employed by Caterpillar Inc., retiring in 1963 after 29 years.
She was a member of Haven Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.
She had been a member of First English Lutheran Church, Peoria, Ill., from 1956 to 1989.
She also was a member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club.
She is survived by one sister, Margaret Mae Hulse of Hagerstown; 10 nieces and nephews; 27 great-nieces and nephews; and 34 great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Julia Doubet; and three brothers, Walter F. Petzing, John A. Petzing and Oscar F. Petzing.
Services and viewing will be held at the convenience of the family.
