George M. Shatzer
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - George McClellan Shatzer, 62, of Falling Waters, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 30, 1934, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Harold B. and Alice Thomas Shatzer.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the U.S. Navy for 17 years. He received four National Defense Good Conduct Medals, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and Navy Expeditionary Medal (Cuba).
He was a plumber.
He was a member of Williamsport Redmen Tribe 84.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Fritz Shatzer; four daughters, Linda L. Boone of Falling Waters, Bonita L. Pittinger of Pleasant Valley, Md., Joyce E. Powell of Princess Anne, Md., and Susan E. Pittinger of Taneytown, Md.; five sons, Mickey Boone, William E. Shatzer and Mark D. Boone, all of Falling Waters, George M. Shatzer Jr. and Matthew E. Shatzer, both of Westminster, Md.; four sisters, Ida M. Hock, Florence Tibbs and Patricia Leese, all of Westminster, and Barbara Lee Troutman of Hampstead, Md.; two brothers, James S. Shatzer and Kenneth F. Shatzer, both of Falling Waters; and 22 grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Fletcher Funeral Home, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Burial will be in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills, Md.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Regina I. George
Regina Irene George, 79, of 17966 Garden Lane, Hagerstown, where she resided with her grandson, Richard L. Heck Jr., died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 24, 1917, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Lester Allison and Irene Besta Kline Bowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph George, in 1991.
She was employed by E.J. Fennel for 30 years, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She was a life member of D.A.V. Auxiliary; past president of I.L.G.W.U. Retiree Club for four years; and past commander of the D.A.V. Auxiliary in Martinsburg, W.Va.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara M. Heck of Hagerstown; one son, Richard Bowers of Tennessee; three stepdaughters, Janice J. Erfle of Rapelje, Mont., Marlene C. Valentine of Waynesboro, Pa., and Orea M. Thomas of New Jersey; one stepson, Rodney L. George of California; two sisters, Margaret Younkins and Delores Stover, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Martin C. Bowers of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Chester J. Evans
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Chester J. Evans, 88, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Aug. 8, 1908, in Blair County, Pa., he was the son of the late Carl J. and Minnie Hewitt Evans.
He retired after 48 years with the Federal Aviation Agency.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Force.
He is survived by his wife, Ella A. Davis Evans; and one sister, Ruth Chamberlain of Altoona, Pa.
Services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Oscar Motilal will officiate. Entombment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday one hour prior to the service.
Jacob M. Gayman
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Jacob M. Gayman, 88, of 5187 Lemar Road, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at his home.
Born Nov. 19, 1907, in Peters Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Tobias S. and Lydia A. Martin Gayman.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Niswander Gayman, in 1967; by his second wife, Ruth Statler Gayman, in 1974; and by his third wife, Elizabeth Brechbill Gayman, in 1979.
He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was known for his scripture verse woodcarving.
He was a member of the Old Order River Brethren.
He is survived by his wife, Rhoda Negley Gayman; one daughter, Thelma M. McLucas of Greencastle, Pa.; three sons, Donald D. Gayman of Morton, Wash., Marlin E. Gayman of Chambersburg, Pa., and Lee E. Gayman of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; one stepson, Owen Statler of Dallastown, Pa.; one sister, Naomi Heckman of St. Thomas, Pa.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Upton Church of the Brethren, near Upton, Pa. Minister Kenneth Frey, Minister Carl Meyers and Minister Kenneth Meyers will officiate. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery, near Welsh Run, Pa.
The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service.

Joseph E. Sutton
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Joseph Elmer "Joe" Sutton, 88, of Winebrenners Cross Roads, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, at his home.
Born June 15, 1908, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Joseph Elmer and Eugenia Wandling Sutton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Link Sutton, in 1991.
He was an automobile salesman for 58 years. He first was employed by Johnson Motor Co., Shepherdstown, W.Va., and then by Jefferson Motor Co. in Charles Town, W.Va. He was last employed by Thomassen Ford Co. in Charles Town, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of St. Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles Town.
He was a member of Professional Sales Association for automobile representatives.
He was an avid horseman and a collector of buggies, sleighs and wagons.
He is survived by one daughter, Joan Sutton Wooddy of Port Tobacco, Md.; and one sister, Bernice Hammond of Charles Town.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Jean Wachtel, Katherine Webber and Margaret VanMetre; and one grandson.
Graveside services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Vancleavesville Cemetery, Winebrenners Cross Roads, Martinsburg. The Rev. Richard E. Neal will officiate.
There will be no visitation.

Harold E. Pisle
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Harold Eugene Pisle, 55, of 6602 Horst Road, died of heart failure Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 14, 1941, in Antrim Township, Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of Garnet J. and Thelma G. Zeger Pisle of Chambersburg.
He lived and worked on the family farm all of his life.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, John D. Pisle and Donald L. Pisle, both of Chambersburg; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa. The Rev. David Rawley will officiate. Burial will be in Brown's Mill Cemetery, Antrim Township, in Kauffman, Pa.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Claude D. Smith
SMITHSBURG - Claude Durbin Smith, 97, of 11908 Seminole Drive, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 16, 1899, in Union Bridge, Md., he was the son of the late Thomas Hayes and Emma Jane Britner Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite E. Smith, in 1982.
He retired from North American/Lonestar Cement Co. in Security, Md.
He was a member of Ringgold Church of Christ.
He is survived by two daughters, Dorothy J. Pryor of Ringgold and Betty L. Keedy of Funkstown; one son, Wayne E. Smith of Smithsburg; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Vicar James Luedeke will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Carl J. Reed
MOUNT LENA - Carl James Reed, 75, 8900 Lums Lane, Boonsboro, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Born April 7, 1921, in Big Spring, he was the son of the late Charles William Reed and Florence Myrtle Long.
He attended Clear Spring School District.
He was employed at Fairchild Industries as a sheet metal worker, Washington County Parks Department as a guard, and retired from GAF Corp. in 1981.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served overseas as a corporal during World War II.
He attended Assembly of God for many years, and recently attended Community Mennonite Church in Mount Lena.
He was a member of Boonsboro American Legion Post 10; AMVETS of Hagerstown; American Riflemen and AARP.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Anna Pearl Reed; two daughters, Carol A. Bailey and Krista L. Young, both of Hagerstown; one son, Carl Eugene Reed of Hagerstown; two sisters, Ivy M. Ridenour of Hagerstown, and Betty L. Wise of Maugansville; two brothers, Charles D. Reed of Pinesburg, and Daniel L. Reed of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; and one step-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Frederick Reed.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Community Mennonite Church, National Pike, Mount Lena. The Rev. Ray Phillips and the Rev. Lewis Coss will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
