Lewis R. Payne
SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Lewis Raymond Payne, 80, of Route 1, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born May 24, 1916, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Lewis Raymond and Mabelle Flaharty Payne Burk Sr.
He retired as a custom woodworker from the Barber and Ross Co., Leesburg, Va.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his wife, Willidean V. Payne; two daughters, Faye Austin of Leesburg, Va., and Nancy Kelley of Bluemont, Va.; two brothers, George Payne of Springfield, Va., and Thomas Payne of Laurel, Del.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor McClemons.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. Lee R. Strickler will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
Lawrence S. Brennan
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Lawrence Stephen Brennan, 59, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 1996, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Feb. 9, 1937, in Dedham, Mass., he was the son of the late Arthur Lawrence and Evelyn Veronica McAteer Brennan.
He was a self-employed truck driver.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served from 1956 until 1962.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Diane Stone Brennan; four daughters, Rhonda Joyce Jennings of Maidens, Va., Teresa Ann Edge of Glen Burnie, Md., Sandra Marie Brennan of Johnstown, Pa., and Melissa Jo Oyadamari of Kent, W.Va.; two sons, Garry Lawrence Brennan of Chambersburg, Pa., and Arthur Leo Brennan of Westover, Md.; one stepdaughter, Kimberlee Dianne Coy of Laurel, Md.; one stepson, Daniel James Smith of Burtonsville, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and two step grandsons.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carla Jane Brennan.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Stephen J. Cuff will officiate. Burial with a military graveside service by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Randy C. Kerns
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Randy Cornelius Kerns, 29, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born Aug. 9, 1967, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of Melvin Howard and Marion Ruth McCusker Kerns of Berkeley Springs.
He attended Berkeley Springs High School.
He was employed as a stainless steel fabricator by Metalcraft Inc., Berkeley Springs.
He attended Wesleyan Chapel, Berkeley Springs.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by six sisters, Diane P. Bloyer of Stewartstown, Pa., Donna C. Fleegle, Beverly L. Kesecker, Patsy L. Kesecker, Judy D. Beattie and Denise C. Walters, all of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Stanley H. Kerns of Berkeley Springs; six nephews; four nieces and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wesleyan Chapel, with the Rev. William C. Swope officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs and one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday for the convenience of friends.

Catherine C. Basch
OZONA, Fla. - Catherine C. Basch, 88, of Ozona, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 1996, at her home.
Born in Webster, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lochner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Basch, on April 14, 1975.
She owned and operated the Ranson Fruit Co., Ranson, W.Va., for many years.
She was a member of St. Ignatius of Antioch Roman Catholic Church, Tarpon Springs, Fla. She was a former member of St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town, W.Va.
She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary Catalano of Ontario, N.Y., and Regina Lochner of Newark, N.Y.; four sons, Peter Basch of Hoboken, N.J., John Basch of Inwood, W.Va., David Basch of Ozona and James Basch of Holiday, Fla.; one sister, Gertrude Klem of California; one brother, David Lochner of California; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
A memorial graveside service will be held Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at 11 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Bert Valdes will officiate.

John R. Brady
John Roland Brady, 85, of 522 Brown Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 2, 1911, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of the late Eugene W. and Emma Reed Brady.
He was a graduate of Brunswick High School and Shepherd College. He did his graduate work at Duke University. While in college, he lettered in football and baseball.
He taught history, English and physical education at Brunswick High School from 1935 until 1943.
He was employed by Nationwide Insurance Co., working as district manager for Allegany County and Hagerstown until his retirement in 1971.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Hagerstown.
He was county chairman for both heart and cancer funds; past president of Hagerstown Chamber of Commerce; a member of Brunswick Lodge 191, A.F.&A.M.; Steadman-Keenan Post 96, American Legion and Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 95, Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Watkins Brady; one son, John Reed Brady of Hagerstown; one sister, Frances Orrison of Brunswick; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Eugenia Deener.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Mary Jane "Nellie" Sprow, 64, of Newman Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born March 4, 1932, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of Helen Crider Brown of Chambersburg.
She was employed as a nursing assistant by Michael Manor, Gettysburg, Pa. She also had been employed by Piney Mountain, Fayetteville, Pa.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She was a member of Fraternal Order of Police, Gettysburg; Eagles Club Ladies Auxiliary, Gettysburg; AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, Chambersburg; American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Fort Loudon, Pa., and Women of the Moose, Gettysburg, Pa.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Lewis "Sonny" C. Sprow; one daughter, Bonnie Rumbudoas of McCalesterville, Pa.; three sons, Vincent Arentz of Beaver Springs, Pa., Vincent Lippy and Thomas Lippy, both of Chambersburg; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Robert L. Basom will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
Friends may call today from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Maree Rosalee Riley Parkin, 80, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996.
Mary J. Kissinger
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary Jane Kissinger, 85, of ManorCare Health Services and formerly of 362 E. Liberty St., died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at ManorCare Health Services.
Born May 6, 1911, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late James and Minnie Stepler Wingert.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Kissinger, on June 28, 1965.
She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School and the Shippensburg Normal School, Shippensburg, Pa.
She was employed as a teacher by the Chambersburg school district, retiring after 30 years of service.
She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, where she taught Sunday school and helped with the Bible school.
She also was a member of the Chambersburg Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, where she had been a volunteer for many years. She also had been a volunteer with the release time program at Camp Joy-El, Greencastle, Pa.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Karen Minnich-Sadler will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
