E. Clayton Osborne
FALLING WATER, W.Va. - E. Clayton Osborne, 62, of Rt. 1, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 1996, in Frederick County, Md.
Born June 23, 1934, in Independence, Va., he was the son of the late Robert D. and Lura Robbins Osborne.
He was employed by Kay Trucking and Contracting, Greencastle, Pa.
He is survived by one daughter, Beverly L. Thorpe of Virginia Beach, Va.; five sisters, Virginia O. Foltz, Phyllis K. Wasson, both of Martinsburg, W.Va., Nan Parrish of Ft. Myers, Fla., Faye LaBeau of Winchester, Va., Wanda O. Townsend of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, W. G. Osborne of Hagerstown and Harold R. Osborne of Falling Waters; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William R. Osborne.
Services and burial will be private.

Margaret B. Derr
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Margaret Belle Derr, 81, of Shepherdstown, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 1996, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Feb. 10, 1915, in Shepherdstown, she was the daughter of the late Laskie Smith and Grace Lee Maddex Stanley.
She was a graduate of Shepherdstown High School. She attended Shepherd College and graduated from West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va.
She was employed as a home economics teacher at Shepherdstown High School for many years.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Shepherdstown, where she was in the Altar Guild and Women of the Church.
She also was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 155; Shepherdstown Womens Club; Mecklenburg Garden Club, all of Shepherdstown and Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.
She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Derr Landis of Front Royal, Va.; two sons, H. Max Derr Jr. of Chantilly, Va., and David Stanley Derr of Manassas, Va.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Thomas Jacoby officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown.
Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.

Helen Greenfield
Helen "Irene" Greenfield, 76, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at Reeder's Memorial Home, Boonsboro.
Born Aug. 16, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Breeden and Letha Middlekauff Breeden Shatzer.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Franklin Greenfield.
She was employed as a hostess by the Fountain Head Country Club until 1986.
She was a member of Christ Reformed Church.
She was an active member of Washington County Ornithological Society.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Lee Ford of Boca Raton, Fla.; one son, Thomas F. Greenfield of Hagerstown; one sister, Cornella Davis of Greencastle, Pa.; one brother, John E. Breeden of Hagerstown and four grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Helen M. Hocker
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Helen M. Hocker, 80, of 1742 Gabler Rd., died Friday, Dec. 20, 1996, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born March 13, 1916, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Myrtle Garman Strock.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur L. Hocker on Dec. 11, 1995.
She was a member of Open Door Church, Chambersburg.
She is survived by one daughter, H. Joan Shoop of Middletown, Md.; one son, Robert G. Hocker of St. Thomas, Pa.; one sister, Susan Martin of Goshen, Ind.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Arthur Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
There will be no viewing, however, the family will receive friends one hour prior on to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Jack W. Hull Sr.
Jack William Hull Sr., 68, formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1996 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Charles W. Bert Jr.
Charles Wesley Bert Jr., 95, a resident of Wilson Health Care Center of Asbury Methodist Home in Gaithersburg, Md., died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at the center.
Born Sept. 20, 1901, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles W. Sr. and Ella Davison Bert.
His first wife, Gladys A. Raff Bert, died in 1971. They were married Sept. 14, 1926.
His second wife, Alma Miner Walker Bert, died in 1994. They were married in 1973.
Following high school, he worked as a clerk in the National Bank of Chambersburg (Pa.). After that he studied technical subjects by correspondence and obtained a position with Stacey Brothers Construction Co. of Cincinnati, and, as a construction foreman, traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico to build oil and gas storage tanks.
In early 1930, he bought General Insurance Agency in Greencastle, Pa., and operated it for nearly 35 years. During that time he served as treasurer of the Borough of Greencastle from 1931 through 1964. He also served as borough water manager and street superintendent. In 1954 he was elected a director of First National Bank and served as its seventh president from 1963 to 1969, as chairman of the board from 1969 to 1976 and then as a member of its board of associates.
During World War II, he served on the local board No. 72 of the Selective Service System.
He was a member of Greencastle Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, serving as a trustee, elder and clerk of the session.
He was active in the Greencastle-Antrim Old Home Week Association, serving as president of the 12th Triennial held in August 1941 and was later elected as a life vice president.
He was a member of Rescue Hose Company No. 1.
He is survived by one daughter, Dr. Grace Bert Cannon of Rockville, Md.; one son, Dr. Charles W. Bert III of Norman, Okla.; two stepdaughters, Jane Walker McCutcheon of Harrisburg, Pa., and Margaret Walker Pfeiffer of Newtown, Conn.; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Bert Ivins; and two brothers, John Bert and William White.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Greencastle Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Rawley D. Boone will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.
The family will receive friends at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Virginia G. Suranno
Virginia Grace Suranno, 77, of 18026 Putter Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 6, 1919, in Elkhorn, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Rosa Cincioni Genovese.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Michael Anthony Suranno Sr.; one daughter, Teresa Marie Carter of Clayton, Del.; three sons, Michael A. Suranno Jr. of Dunkirk, Md., Tony Suranno of Hagerstown, and James G. Suranno of Livonia, Mich.; two sisters, Helen DeGuiseppe and Mary Maas, both of Detroit; six grandchildren; one step-grandson; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Richard A. Rodeffer
Richard Arlen Rodeffer, 64, of 4 Sycamore St., Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 20, 1996, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born Feb. 27, 1932, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles and Ruth Mowen Rodeffer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Jean Rodeffer, in 1995.
He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict.
He was a member of V.F.W. Post 1936.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandra J. McPherson and Cheryl A. Kesecker, both of Hagerstown; two sons, Steven A. Rodeffer and Douglas K. Rodeffer, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, Paul Rodeffer and Robert Rodeffer, both of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Jane Rodeffer; and one son, Michael Rodeffer.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. B.J. McPherson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at sea.
