Lloyd W. Gearhart Sr.
BOONSBORO - Lloyd William Gearhart Sr., 69, of Bakersville Road, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 10, 1927, in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late Floyd A. and Florence Lowman Gearhart.
His wife, Daisy Marie Duvall Gearhart, died in 1990.
He retired from Sam Tooma Oriental Rugs.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of V.F.W. Post 1936, AMVETS Post 10, Moose Lodge, and Wrightmans of Hagerstown.
He is survived by three daughters, Louella Ann Lewis of Boonsboro, Beverly Ann Baumgarten of Ocean City, Md., and Mary K. Cline of Myersville, Md.; five sons, Lloyd W. Gearhart Jr. and Kenneth Kline, both of Hagerstown, Michael R. Zaborowski of Virginia, John Kline of Funkstown, and George W. Kline of Smithsburg; four sisters, Lorraine Wolford, Phyllis Rice and Louella Ann Kline, all of Hagerstown, and Betty Marquiss of Melbourne, Fla.; one brother, Floyd Andrew Gearhart Jr. of Lancaster, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Rachel Respo.
Services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by V.F.W. Post 1936.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Arnold C. Stride Sr.
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Arnold C. Stride Sr., 73, of Route 1, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Jan. 21, 1923, in Bakerton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clyde Samuel and Lillian Stephens Stride.
His wife, Arbutus Springer Stride, preceded him in death.
He was a self-employed brick mason.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by three daughters, Barbara Jean Stride of Martinsburg, Sandy Wright of Scrabble, W.Va., and Patti Wright of Shepherdstown; one sister, Genevieve Goodrich of Annapolis; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Arnold C. Stride Jr.; three brothers, Clyde Stride, Charles Stride and Roy Stride; and one grandson.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Don Gribble will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Shepherdstown, with military graveside services conducted by Newton D. Baker Post 896 V.F.W. and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mary L. Hinton
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Mary Lyon Hinton, 71, of Rileys Oakhill Manor, and formerly of Silver Spring, Md., died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at Rileys Oakhill Manor.
Born in Winchester, Va., March 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Margaret Lyon.
Her husband, Allen Hinton, preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Suzanne Hinton of Clinton, Md.; one son, Dr. Scott Hinton of Sherwood, Ark.; two brothers, Billy Lyon of Waynesboro, Pa., and Robert Lyon of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday in North Little Rock.
Memorial donations may be made to Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock.
Lloyd W. Stouffer
HANOVER, Pa. - Lloyd W. Stouffer, 83, a resident of Hanover Hall Nursing Home, and formerly of RD 2, Box 68A Thomasville, Pa., and Buchanan Trail West, Mercersburg, Pa., died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at the nursing home.
Born Aug. 1, 1913, in Enoch Mills, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry D. and Nora B. Bitt-ner Stouffer.
He was a graduate of the former Lemasters High School in Lemasters, Pa.
He was a retired farmer, and also retired after 18 years employment with Corning Glass, Greencastle, Pa., plant, where he worked in the personnel department.
He was a member of Paradise Lutheran Church in Thomasville, a former member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church near Upton, Pa., and was a former Sunday school superintendent.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Mae Thompson Stouffer, a resident of Hanover Hall Nursing Home, whom he married Dec. 18, 1936; one son, Richard L. Stouffer of Thomasville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Douglas Hodges will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mabel J. Cook
Mabel Josephine Cook, 84, formerly of 621 Chestnut St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.
Born Feb. 15, 1912, in Funkstown, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Mary Anna Hartle Iseminger.
Her husband, Paul R. Cook, died in 1978.
She retired in 1978 from Fairchild Aircraft.
She was a member of Ringgold Church of Christ and taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by one sister, Viola Leedy of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet H. Trumpower; one sister; and three brothers.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don Conley will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.
Mack Magaha
FREDERICK, Md. - Mack Magaha, 68, of 416 N. Market St., died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.
Born Sept. 9, 1928, in Frederick, he was the son of the late E. Paul Magaha Sr. and Alice Wilson Magaha.
He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Syracuse University with a bachelors of arts degree.
He was a former employee of the federal government. He retired after 22 years of service, including seven years as public relations officer at Fort Detrick.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and served from 1946 to 1950.
He was a member of American Legion Post 0011, Frederick; National Wildlife Federation; and Musicians Union Local 770, Hagerstown.
He is survived by one son, Paul Wilson Magaha of Frederick; one brother, Douglas Magaha of Frederick; two grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
Services will be announced at a later date.

Thomas E. Bowman Sr.
Thomas E. Bowman Sr., 79, of 17318 Amber Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 20, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 14, 1917, in Portland, Maine, he was the son of the late George W. and Celia E. Wolfe Bowman.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen A. Richards Bowman, in 1960.
He retired in 1978 from New England Telephone and Telegraph Co.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Navy in Pearl Harbor, Africa and India.
He was a member St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Donna M. Stout Bowman; two daughters, Mary T. Browne and Martha A. Curncil, both of Portland; three sons, Thomas E. Bowman Jr. of Hampton, Va., Mark J. Bowman of Portland and James M. Bowman of Hagerstown; four sisters, Mildred Guidiboni of Burlington, Mass., Virginia Remick of Phelan, Calif., Helen Templeton of Lexington, N.C., and Anna Foley of Englewood, Calif.; two brothers, Raymond Bowman and John Bowman, both of Portland; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Thibault; and two brothers, Robert Bowman and George W. Bowman Jr.
Services will be Friday at 9 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Ocean Avenue, Portland. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland, Maine.

Wallace R. Swope
HARRISONVILLE, Pa. - Wallace Ray Swope, 50, of RD 1, died Friday, Dec. 20, 1996, at Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa.
Born Oct. 6, 1946, in Knobsville, Pa., he was the son of the late Floyd A. and Janet Bard Swope.
He was a farmer, a trucker for a number of years and a carpenter. He was last employed by Pennfield Feed in Boonsboro.
He was veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by four sisters, Evelyn Clonch of Kent, Wash., Dorothy Royal of Manheim, Pa., Iola Zeger of Harrisonville and Wilma Sowers of Chambersburg, Pa.; five brothers, Cloyd Swope and Warren Swope, both of McConnellsburg, Pa., Donald Swope and Leo Swope, both of Harrisonville, and the Rev. Willis Swope of Hancock; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Nazarene Church, Harrisonville. The Rev. Dan Porterfield and the Rev. William Swope will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., Harrisonville, today from 2 to 9 p.m. and at the church Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
