Walter L. Lohman

KEEDYSVILLE - Walter LeRoy Lohman, 85, of 15 N. Main St., died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 13, 1911, in Antietam, he was the son of the late Louis and Susan Griffith Lohman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret Keesecker Lohman, in 1993.

In his early life, he was a farmer. He was later employed by the U.S. Park Service at Antietam National Cemetery in Sharpsburg and retired with 23 years of service.

He was a member of Antietam Church of God.

He is survived by two daughters, Alice Feigley of Hagerstown and Lauretta Stotler of Keedysville; one brother, Gardner Lohman of Sharpsburg; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Florence Lohman; two sisters, Edna Jackson and Reba Burgan; and one brother, Harry Lohman.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg. The Rev. Richard A. Fox will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to Antietam Church of God, P.O. Box 514, Sharpsburg, Md. 21782; or Washington County Heart Association, 92 W. Washington St., Suite 205, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Joseph B. Yingling

Joseph Bertram "Bert" Yingling, 79, of 18915 Dover Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 8, 1917, in Cockeysville, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Mary Ellison Yingling.

He was co-builder and owner of Yingling Golf Center. He was previously co-builder and owner of Beaver Creek Country Club.

He was instrumental in building and was an original board member of Black Rock Golf Course. He also began golf instruction in Washington County schools.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

He was a life member and past president of Mid-Atlantic Association of Golf Course Superintendents and life member of Golf Course Superintendents of America. He was a member and past president of Chewsville Lions Club; a member of Elks Lodge 378 and Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Jane Kretzer Yingling; two daughters, Susan Hutzell of Hagerstown and Diana Rau of Fraser, Colo.; one son, Jeffrey Yingling of Hagerstown; two brothers, Harvey P. Yingling of Cockeysville and J. Lee Yingling of Bethesda, Md.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 92 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Irene E. Porter

Irene Elizabeth Porter, 89, of 14014 Marsh Pike, Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 20, 1996, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

Born Oct. 18, 1907, in Elkton, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles T. and Edna Hemphill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Porter.

She was a member of VFW in Delaware and AARP.

She is survived by one daughter, Gloria S. Shank of Hagerstown; one brother, Charles Hemphill; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Howard T. Walck

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Howard T. "Ted" Walck, 60, of 28 Field Circle, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born June 5, 1936, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Howard T. and Esther Saunders Walck.

He was a 1955 graduate of Chambersburg High School. He also was a 1957 graduate of the former Chambersburg School of Business with a diploma in accounting.

He was employed by the Defense Logistics Agency at Letterkenny Army Depot for 34 years and retired in 1991. For the past two years, he was employed part time by Greencastle Metal Works in Greencastle, Pa.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Black Walck, whom he married on June 21, 1963; one daughter, Juliane Callahan of Camp Hill, Pa.; one sister, Betty Gift of Chambersburg; one brother, Joseph W. Walck of Chambersburg; one grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Ronald L. Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

It was his request that flowers be omitted. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

David H. Fox

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - David Harold Fox, 49, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at his late mother's home in Sleepy Creek, W.Va.

Born May 1, 1947, in Sleepy Creek, he was the son of the late Harold Smith and Ethel McCurtie Carbaugh Fox.

He was a 1965 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

He was employed as a glass former by Corning Glass Works in Martinsburg.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the military from 1967 to 1981.

He attended Independent Church of God, Hedgesville, W.Va.

He was a member of AFL-CIO American Flint Glass Workers Union Local 1023, Martinsburg.

He is survived by his wife, Chiyoko Nakasone Fox; one son, Donald Harold Fox of the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, Va.; two sisters, Dolly M. Howell and Carolyn S. Meier, both of Martinsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita C. Watson.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Rodney Truax will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sleepy Creek.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

John R. Fulton

John Ross Fulton, 2, of 12914 Fountain Head Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1996, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Born Dec. 16, 1994, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Mark A. and Ann Smeltzer Fulton.

He was baptized at the chapel at St. James School.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael K. Smeltzer of Roanoke, Va.; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Adna B. Fulton of Boonsboro; maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Brownee of Gainesville, Fla.; and paternal great-grandfather, Malcolm E. Shaw of Big Pool.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the chapel at St. James School, St. James. The Rev. Stuart S. Dunnan will officiate. Private burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pediatrics Hematology Division, Johns Hopkins University Hospital, 600 N. Wolfe St., Baltimore, Md. 21287.

Arrangements are by Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

E. Louise Brown

E. Louise Brown, 88, of 416 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.

Born July 14, 1908, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry R. and Nettie L. Helferstay Foltz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Brown, on Oct. 17, 1996.

She was employed by Hagerstown Shoe Co.

She was a member of Zion Reformed Church, Hagerstown.

She is survived by two daughters, Laurel "Dolly" Brown of Hagerstown and Mary Louise Brown of Houston; and two granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia F. Thomas and Jane F. Cash.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Dale Cook will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday one hour prior to the service.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, 201 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Mark S. Townley

WARREN, N.J. - Mark S. Townley, 54, of Warren, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1996, at his sister's home in Warren.

He was born in Plainfield, N.J., and lived in Hagerstown and North Plainfield, N.J., before moving to San Diego 25 years ago. He recently moved to Warren.

He was a lab technician. He was employed by Fluid Systems Inc. in San Diego for eight years.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He is survived by his former spouse, Carol Watson of Los Angeles; two sisters, Ann Francese of Warren and Donna Carder of Hagerstown; several nieces and nephews; and two great-nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, N.J., followed by a 10 a.m. mass at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, N.J.

Visitation will be Tuesday at the funeral home from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Muhlenberg Hospice Fund, c/o Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, Park Avenue and Randolph Road, Plainfield, N.J. 07061.
