Guy C. McCleaf Jr.
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Guy C. "June" McCleaf Jr., 72, of 13001 Pennersville Road, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1996, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born April 10, 1924, in Fairfield, Pa., he was the son of the late Guy C. and Lavina A. Breach McCleaf Sr. He lived his early life in the Fairfield area.
He was employed by GAF Minerals, now ISP Minerals Inc., Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., as a mechanic in the maintenance department. He worked there from 1947 until his retirement in 1986.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army, 731st Unit Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Army, from 1943 to 1946. He served in the European Theater.
He was a member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline J. Fleck McCleaf, whom he married on Sept. 9, 1946; one daughter, Connie J. Bombardier of Rouzerville, Pa.; one son, Daniel G. McCleaf Sr. of Blue Ridge Summit; three sisters, Florence J. Benjamin of Cascade, Jean I. Benchoff of Blue Ridge Summit and Darlene G. Kinley of Waynesboro; one brother, Ralph O. McCleaf of Middletown, Pa.; five grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert P. McCleaf.
Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Eugene M. Cline will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade. Military graveside services will be conducted by Honor Guard from the Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday two hours prior to the service.
Ruth B.S. Haack
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ruth B. Slonaker Haack, 99, of 2075 Scotland Ave., and formerly of Waynesboro, died Monday, Dec. 23, 1996, at Menno-Haven, Chambersburg.
Born Feb. 19, 1897, in Fountaindale, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edgar A. Sprenkle and Emma C. Linebaugh Sprenkle Kriner.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Andrew A. Slonaker, in 1950, and Thomas Haack, in 1967.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, Chambersburg.
She is survived by three daughters, Esther M. Miller of Hagerstown, Janet R. Bentzel of Chambersburg and Helen C. Stahley of York, Pa.; three sons, Alan A. Slonaker and Harry E. Slonaker, both of Gettysburg, Pa., and Ira M. Slonaker of York; one stepdaughter, Verna Edman of Alpine, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Bishop Donald G. Myers and the Rev. Michael E. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in McKnightstown Cemetery, McKnightstown, Pa.
Visitation will be Monday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A. Brian Alexander, 20, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 16, 1976, in Vicksburg, Miss., he was the son of the late Michael J. Alexander.
He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He was employed by W.D. Byron Tannery in Williamsport.
He is survived by paternal grandparents, Louise and Norman Price of Martinsburg; and a close friend, Misty Tosten.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Anna F. Broyles
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Anna Frances Broyles, 81, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Dec. 23, 1996, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born June 21, 1915, in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Columbus "Buck" and Martha Roeder LaRue.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Kenneth Broyles.
She retired from Sexton Can Co.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Martinsburg.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Mickeline, Chambersburg, Pa., and Dorothy Kilmer of Michigan; three sisters, Dorothy Riker and Grace Kelley, both of Hagerstown, and Rosalie Lloyd of Martinsburg; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Robert L. Broyles; six sisters, Pearl LeNovel, Ella Powell, Mary E. LaRue, Maude Copenhaver, Helen Keller and Louise LaRue; and four brothers, George LaRue, William LaRue, Robert LaRue and Woodrow LaRue.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 219 S. Queen St., Martinsburg. The Rev. John V. DiBacco Jr. will be celebrant. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.
The family will meet at the funeral home Thursday at 12:30 p.m. before going to the church.
Ralph H. Clopper
CARLISLE, Pa. - Ralph H. Clopper, 91, of Cumberland County Nursing Home, and formerly of Barnitz, Pa., died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at the nursing home.
Born April 5, 1905, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Jacob and Maggie Hollinger Clopper.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Shenk Clopper.
He was a graduate of Greencastle High School, Greencastle, Pa. He attended Elizabethtown College, where he was captain of the first varsity basketball team.
He was a former employee of Huntsdale Fish Hatchery. He retired from Schweitzer Paper Co., Mt. Holly Springs, Pa. He was former owner and operator of Ralph H. Clopper Tax Preparer. He was a former auditor of Dickinson Township, Pa.
He was a member of Huntsdale Church of the Brethren, where he was a former superintendent, deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by one daughter, Louise A. Potteiger of Carlisle; two sons, Jack S. Clopper of Alexandria, Va., and Joe R. Clopper of Carlisle; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
His body was donated to Humanity Gifts Registry.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle. The Rev. Jan. E. Custer will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
Gladys G. Post
Gladys G. Post, 87, formerly of Lyndon, N.Y., died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1996, at Colton Villa Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born April 24, 1909, in Farmersville, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Sarah Williams Bogardus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verner Post, in 1992.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklinville, N.Y., and Loyal Standby Class and Missionary Circle.
She was a member of Franklinville Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one daughter, Carole Swope of Felton, Pa.; one son, David Post of Hagerstown; one brother, Lloyd Bogardus of Weston Mills, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen LaPlante and Beverly Tyree.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Babbitt and Easton Funeral Home, 7 N. Main St., Franklinville. The Rev. James Garnett will officiate. Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery, Freedom, N.Y.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Earl L. Kean
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Earl L. Kean, 77, of 280 Stonegate Circle South, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1996, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Nov. 19, 1919, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Earl H. and Mary Koser Kean.
He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and retired from Conrail as a supervisor with 41 years of service in 1977.
A veteran of World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.
He was a member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, Chambersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Gabler Kean, whom he married on Dec. 14, 1937; two daughters, Shirley K. Jones and Susanne Detrich, both of Chambersburg; five sisters, Marion Truett, Marjorie Diehl and Helen Fegan, all of Chambersburg, Eleanor Isman of Arizona, and Pauline Skeen of Atlanta; one brother, George W. Kean of Elizabethtown, Pa.; five grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Donald C. Nolder will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday one hour prior to the service.

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Mary J. Sheets, 73, of Cumberland, and formerly of Potomac Park, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1996, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 10, 1923, in Clarksburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of Garold L. Douglas and Hazel J. Sutton Douglas of Bridgeport, W.Va.
She was a retired C&P Telephone operator in Hagerstown.
A veteran of World War II, she served in the Women's Air Corps.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland.
She was a member of Telephone Pioneers; Cumberland Garden Club; and Cumberland History House.
She is survived by four daughters, Barbara J. Mulvey of Salisbury, Md., Joanna Dove of Columbia, Md., Lisa A. Capps of Glenelg, Md., and Colleen Shaffer of Winchester, Va.; one son, David H. Sheets of Alexandria, Va.; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Sheets.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Washington Street, Cumberland. The Rev. John J. Duffus will officiate. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Md.
Friends will be received at Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
