Gentry C. Belford
WINCHESTER, Va. - Gentry C. "Bill" Belford, 67, of 198 Miller Road, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born May 3, 1929, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of Eva Belford.
He was a self-employed painter until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 824.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Smith Belford; two daughters, Denise Belford Dodson of Frederick County, Va., and Lisha Bikle of Boonsboro; one half-brother, Marshall Baker of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Jones Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Joseph Donovan III will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gore, Va.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Louise S. McNew
WILLIAMSPORT - Louise Smith McNew, 71, of 10908 Stuart Drive, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Born July 10, 1925, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Irene Bovey Smith of Waynesboro.
She was a retired employee of Oliver Homes, Hagerstown.
She was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Hagerstown.
She was an avid bridge player.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Harry W. McNew; two sons, Michael D. McNew of Newtown, Pa., and Jeffrey L. McNew of Mill Valley, Calif.; one sister, Cathleen Miller of Waynesboro; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., North Hagerstown. The Rev. David Templeton will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, Pa.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Washington County Unit, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21742.
Charles W. Selby Sr.
Charles William Selby Sr., 77, of 709 West Washington St., Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 4, 1919, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Fielder Noah and Fannie Elmira Smith Selby.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Myrie Repp Selby on Oct. 4, 1993.
He was employed by Western Maryland Railway for 44 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
He was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the Bereavement Committee, and was a member of the Comrades Sunday School Class.
He also was a member of the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary; Western Maryland Railway Old Timers Club; Morris Frock American Legion Post 42; United Transportation Union Local 0633; Hagerstown Lodge 217 A.F. & A.M. and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Hagerstown Forest 95.
He is survived by one daughter, Judith A. Faulders of Hagerstown; two sons, Charles W. Selby Jr. of Hagerstown and Michael D. Selby of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one sister, Hazel Jordon of Hagerstown; two brothers, Elmer Selby and Earl Selby, both of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Brashears, Helen Mitchell and Catherine Cross.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Raymond Lytle will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Ronald O. Nordeen
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Ronald Orgren Nordeen, 74, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at his home.
Born Dec. 21, 1922, in Mt. Ranier, Md., he was the son of Carl E. and Eleanor C. Orgren Nordeen.
He was a graduate of McKinley Technical High School, Washington, D.C. He received his bachelor of arts degree in French and sociology from the University of Maryland, where he served as president of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity for two years.
In 1943 he joined the U.S. Army and served as a medic in Europe during World War II. He was involved in the liberation.
In 1952 he began working for the Central Intelligence Agency, and from his permanent residence in Olney, Md., served tours of duty in Karachi, Pakistan; New Delhi and Madras, India, where he was vice consul; Ankara, Turkey; and Athens, Greece. He retired after 25 years and moved to Shepherdstown.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church, where he served as deacon. He joined Trinity Episcopal Church in 1986.
He was vice president of the Historic Commission; a Good Shepherd Interfaith Volunteer; a member of the American Legion; the Men's Club; Rotary and Millbrook Orchestra Auxiliary.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Thelma Mae "Terry" Herriman Nordeen; two daughters, Rona Leigh Nordeen Wendeborn of Shepherdstown and Randi Ann Nordeen of Washington, D.C.; one son, Curtis Lawton Nordeen of Atlanta; one sister, Eleanor Nordeen Bock of Landover Hills, Md.; one brother, Kermit Kay Nordeen of Chesapeake, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Shepherdstown. The Rev. G. T. Schramm and the Rev. Stanley B. Jones will officiate. Burial, with military graveside services by Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW and Berkeley Post 14, American Legion, will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Edward D. DeLauney
SHARPSBURG - Edward Donald DeLauney, 74, of 3718 Limekiln Road, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 28, 1922, in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late Robert Vincent and Mary Katherine Clipp DeLauney.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Louise Jamison DeLauney, in 1989.
He was employed by the John C. Walker Construction Co., Chevy Chase, Md., until his retirement.
He served during World War II in the European Theater. He was awarded the Purple Heart for combat wounds.
He was a member of Antietam Post 236, American Legion of Sharpsburg.
He is survived by two sisters, Betty Jane Waters and Lynda Norris, both of Sharpsburg; several nieces and nephews and special friends David and Katie.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Agnes Virginia Flook.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg. The Rev. Richard G. Hembrock and the Rev. Ernest Whitmer will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

John F. Davis Jr.
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John F. Davis Jr., 78, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born May 30, 1918, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late John F. and Effie Gochenour Davis.
He was a 1936 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He retired from Fairchild.
He was a member of Rosemont Grace Brethren Church.
He also was a member of AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Chrisman Davis; one daughter, Carol Roberta Michael of Martinsburg; one son, John Frederick Davis III of Martinsburg; three brothers, Charles William Davis, David Lee Davis, both of Martinsburg, and James Arnold Davis of Ewan, N.J.; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Vera Alberta Milano and one brother, Paul Oliver Davis.
Services will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Carl A. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
William E. Gossert Jr.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - William E. Gossert Jr., 89, of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of 101 W. King St., died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Feb. 10, 1907, in Leitersburg, he was the son of the late William E. and Ida Mae Shockey Gossert Sr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivy May Beam Gossert, on May 25, 1988.
He was employed by the Franklin Feed and Supply Co., formerly Walker Brothers, for 33 years.
He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Chambersburg.
He is survived by two daughters, Betsy Martin of Hagerstown and Janet L. Gossert of Chambersburg; two sons, William E. Gossert III and Kenneth E. Gossert, both of Carlisle, Pa.; one sister, Mae Oberholzer of Waynesboro, Pa.; one brother, George Gossert of Mont Alto, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, four brothers and four sisters.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. C. Frederic Sanford will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service.
Helena M. Reel
MANASSAS, Va. - Helena Miller Reel, 81, of Manassas, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at Prince William Hospital, Manassas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor E. Reel.
She worked for the Red Cross during World War II. She also was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Hagerstown.
She is survived by one sister, Gloria Garver of Waynesboro, Pa.; one granddaughter, Kathleen M. Rudin of Manteno, Ill.; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Campbell.
Services and burial are private.
