William R. Winter
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - William "Pete" Riley Winter, 74, of Kearneysville, died Monday, Nov. 25, 1996, at his home.
Born Aug. 30, 1922, in Carrollton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Walter William and Mary Etta Winter.
He was a 1941 graduate of Hurricane (West Virginia) High School.
He was employed by the Department of Defense, Mapping Agency, retiring in 1977.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II in naval aviation as an aerial gunner on patrol bombers. He was awarded an Air Medal for action against the Japanese in the South Pacific. After the war he remained in the navy in the electronics field until his retirement in 1963.
He was a member of Covenant Baptist Church, Shepherdstown, W.Va., where he was deacon emeritus. He was active in Southern Baptist Church work.
A lifetime member of the National Association for Uniformed Services, he received awards for work with specialized electronic tracking equipment.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Eleanor Morris Winter; four daughters, Linda Gupton, Mary Anne Wilson, Patricia Thomas, and Virginia Campbell; one son, William Riley Winter Jr.; one sister, Mary Graves; one brother, Tom Winter; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Hayslett.
He donated his body to the West Virginia University Medical Center for medical research.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Covenant Baptist Church. The Rev. Ron Larson will officiate.

Ruth M. K. Wellinger
Ruth Miller Keyser Wellinger, 95, of 532 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.
Born Dec. 15, 1900, in Cherry Run, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James B. and Florence Miller Keyser.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick J. Wellinger, in 1963.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
She was a food bank volunteer for many years.
She is survived by one niece, Cletis Reynolds of Hagerstown; eight great-nieces and nephews; 16 great-great-nieces and nephews; and 30 great-great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Risinger and Mabel Hoch; and two brothers, James Edward Keyser and Meade Buck Keyser.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Thomas L. Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
David M. Putman
MARLOWE, W.Va. - David Matthew Putman, 53, of Marlowe, died Monday, Nov. 25, 1996, in Berkeley County, W.Va.
Born June 18, 1943, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of the late Nelson Putman and Mearl Edmonds of Strausburg, Va.
A retired heavy equipment operator, he had worked for Moore Brothers Construction Co., at Dulles International Airport.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Kesecker Putman; three daughters, Loretta "Lori" Drury of Hedgesville, W.Va., Christina "Kissy" Drury and Rachel Putman, both at home; two sons, Michael D. Putman of Florida and Troy L. Putman; one sister, Libby Hawkins of Tennessee; seven brothers, Gary Putman Sr. of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Roger Putman of Hedgesville, Bobby Putman, Leon Putman, Donald Edmonds and Dwayne Edmonds, all of Woodstock, Va., and William Edmonds of Edinburg, Va.; one grandson; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James Putman.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lucile G. Ferguson
Lucile G. Ferguson, 90, of Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown, and formerly of 11 W. Baltimore St., died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, at the nursing home.
Born Jan. 8, 1906, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Mary Jane Sechrist Geary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Ferguson, in 1983.
She was a retired credit manager for Eyerly's Department store.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by one sister, Josephine Rhodes; and one brother, William E. Geary of Hagerstown.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. George Limmer will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

Frank A. Ruebsam
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Frank Auren Ruebsam, 86, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, in Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born June 26, 1910, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Frank and Dora White Ruebsam.
He retired from the U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by one sister, Charlotte Rudy of Berkeley Springs; and one cousin.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Ruebsam.
Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Enon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Largent, W.Va. The Rev. Ralph H. Funkhouser will officiate.

George W. Baker Sr.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - George W. Baker Sr., 82, of Luther Ridge Community, and formerly of Oak Lane, Shippensburg, Pa., died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg.
Born Dec. 14, 1913, in Boiling Springs, Pa., he was the son of the late Earl W. and Ruth Brandt Baker.
He was a 1931 graduate of Boiling Springs High School.
He was co-owner of Baker and Russell Fuel Oil Co. in Shippensburg. He was retired.
He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Shippensburg, where he was a member and former president of the church council.
He was a member of Cumberland Valley Lodge 315 F.&A.M., Shippensburg; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Harrisburg, Pa.; Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley, Valley Forrest 145, Shippensburg; and life member of Cumberland Valley Hose Co. 2, Shippensburg.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Urling Baker of The Shook Home, Chambersburg; one daughter, Carolyn Ferdinand of Carbondale, Ill.; one son, Dr. George W. Baker Jr. of Fayetteville, Pa.; one sister, Iva Meals of Boiling Springs; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Bonnie B. Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Carlisle, Pa.

ROCKVILLE, Md. - Mary Hollida Corydon, 65, of Rockville, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, at Bethesda Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md.
Born Jan. 21, 1931, in New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Joe E. and Mary Elizabeth Hollida James.
She is survived by one daughter, Lee Corydon Koenig of Mauritius; one son, Jeff Corydon of Germantown, Md.; and one brother, Andy James of Martinsburg, W.Va.
Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
There will be no viewing.

Lee Roy Ritter
Lee Roy Ritter, 87, a resident of Clearview Nursing Home and formerly of 46 Belview Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, at the home.
Born July 31, 1909, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William A. and Anna E. Pyle Ritter.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel B. Ritter, in 1966.
He retired after 50 years with Creasey Company.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church U.C.C.
He is survived by his second wife, Florence Sprankle Ritter; two daughters, Leatrice J. Widmyer and Lana R. Barnhart, both of Hagerstown; one granddaughter, Heather A. Barnhart of Hagerstown; one grandson David M. Barnhart of Baltimore; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Manos, Anna Nichols, and Jane Ritter; five brothers, William Ritter, Russell Ritter, Preston Ritter, Woodrow Ritter and Ernest Ritter.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Dale Cook will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Paul F. Dixon
CUMBERLAND, Md. - Paul Franklin Dixon, 58, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland.
Born May 15, 1938, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of Ruth Stroop Dixon Zombro of Martinsburg, W.Va., and the late John Edwin Dixon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Stevens Dixon.
He was a plumber.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by four sons, Paul Dixon Jr., Dan Dixon, Charles Dixon and Joseph Dixon, all of Philadelphia; one brother, John Elwood Dixon of California, four step sisters, Victoria Shaffer, Elizabeth James, Helen Orr and Frances Kilmer, all of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one aunt, one uncle and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Dixon; one half-brother Waldo Meadows; and his step-father James F. Zombro.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with the Rev. Louise Barrett officiating. Burial will be in Rest Cemetery, Frederick County, Va.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
John W. Zerkle
John Walter Zerkle, 91, of 16114 Broadfording Road, Hagerstown, and formerly of Springfield, Ohio, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996 at the home of his son.
Born Dec. 5, 1904, in Tremont, Ohio, he was the son of the late Oscar and Mary Owens Zerkle.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie W. Zerkle, in 1981.
He retired after 45 years of service with the Ohio Edison Electric Company.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Kissell Masonic Lodge in Springfield, Ohio.
He is survived by one son, Tad A. Zerkle of Hagerstown; two grandsons; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at the Ferncliff Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.
