Robert M. Cavanaugh

Robert Moncrief Cavanaugh, 78, of 1020 Matthews Court, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 5, 1918, in Fort Frederick, Md., he was the son of the late Homer J. and Nora V. Weaver Cavanaugh.

He retired in 1980 from Western Maryland Railway after 39 years of service.

He was a member a First Christian Church.

He was a member of United Transportation Union Local 633.

He is survived by his wife, Martha E. Cavanaugh; one daughter, Roberta E. Harner of Hagerstown; two sisters, Louise Williams of Hagerstown and Saxon Green of Hedgesville, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred Harris and the Rev. Robert L. Regenold will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m.

Ada Maiorino

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ada Maiorino, 96, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, and formerly of the Philadelphia area, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at ManorCare Health Services.

Born July 20, 1900, in Guilianova Providence of Teramo, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Laura Digaetano.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Maiorino, in 1978.

In her early life, she worked as a vaudevillian.

She was of the Catholic faith.

She is survived by three stepdaughters, Jeanette G. Baker of Chambersburg, Lidia Beam of Caledonia, Pa., and Norma Horn of Hamstead, N.C.; four step-grandsons; two step-great-granddaughters; three step-great-grandsons; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be today at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing, N.J. The Rev. John F. Sugrue will officiate.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home Inc., 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

Norman L. Crist

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Norman L. "Bubby" Crist, 77, of 1074 Locust St., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at his home.

Born Aug. 31, 1919, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Norman V. and Virginia E. Spahr Crist.

He was a 1938 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He was employed by T.B. Woods in Chambersburg as superintendent of the foundry. He retired in 1981.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg.

He was a member of BPO Elks 600; Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW; Hume-McNeal-Byers AMVETS Post 224; Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46; Landis-McCleaf Marine Corps League; and 572nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Association.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Eichelberger Crist, whom he married on April 3, 1943; one daughter, Nancy V. Horst of Chambersburg; one brother, Gerald A. Crist of Chambersburg; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Sidney V. Crist.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Daniel F. Lawler, S.J., will be celebrant. Burial will be Corpus Christi Cemetery, Chambersburg. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599.

Visitation will be at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201

Mabel A. Quinn

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Mabel A. Quinn, 86, a resident of Caledonia Manor, and formerly of 661 Mud Level Road, Shippensburg, Pa., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at Caledonia Manor.

Born April 20, 1910, in Caretta, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Wade and Ann Blackburn Beavers.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Paul F. Mackey and Everett Quinn.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Shippensburg Church of the Nazarene, Shippensburg. She had been a former church treasurer, Sunday School teacher and president of Nazarene World Missions Society.

She is survived by three daughters, Jeanette Wallace of Ontario, Calif., Lois Shaffer of Shippensburg, and Ann Mackey of Median, Ohio; one son, Larry Mackey of Spring Hill, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son.

Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Pa. The Rev. Todd Risser will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Shippensburg Church of the Nazarene, 415 E. Orange St., Shippensburg, Pa. 17257.

Douglas M. Cramer

KEEDYSVILLE - Douglas Monroe Cramer, 44, of 89 S. Main St., and formerly of Walkersville, Md., died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at his home.

Born Jan. 12, 1952, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of Harry Monroe and Janet Lee VanFossen Cramer of Frederick.

He was a 1970 graduate of Walkersville High School.

He was a self-employed interior designer.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, James E. Cramer of Keedysville; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County Inc., 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Helen W. Small

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Helen W. Small, 81, of 1024 Warm Spring Road, Lot 25, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at her home.

Born Dec. 21, 1915, in Concord, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James F. and Anna E. McCartney Wise.

She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School and the former Chambersburg Business College.

She was employed by Sears in Chambersburg as a manager of the catalog department. She was retired.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg.

She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary James McCartney Post 232, Dry Run, Pa.; and a life member of Path Valley Stag Club.

She is survived by her husband, Edgar P. Small Sr., whom she married on July 17, 1968; two stepdaughters, Linda A. Clark of Chambersburg and Donna K. Grooves of Topeka, Kan.; one stepson, Edgar P. Small Jr. of Virginia; one brother, J. Eugene Wise of Chambersburg; three step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one stepson.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. Monsignor Thomas R. Brenner will be celebrant. Burial will be private.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Ruth C. C. Zimmerman

BOONSBORO - Ruth Cecelia Colbert Zimmerman, 88, of Reeder's Memorial Home, Boonsboro, and formerly of 11 W. Baltimore St., Apt. 915, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born Nov. 11, 1908, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late George William and Cecelia Jane Gray Colbert. She lived all of her life in the Sharpsburg and Hagerstown areas.

She received her LPN license from Hagerstown Junior College.

She was employed at Washington County Hospital early in life and later worked at Hagerstown Shoe Factory and Victor Products in Hagerstown. Prior to her retirement in 1988, she was an LPN for various nursing homes and did private duty nursing in the Hagerstown area.

She was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

She was a member of the National AARP and arranged bus trips for L&L Bus Lines for the Happy-Go-Luckys Group in Hagerstown.

She is survived by three daughters, Ramona C. Helsel of Chambersburg, Pa., Wanda E. Wade of Hagerstown and Deanna K. Ortmyer of Aspers, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 9711 Beavercreek Church Road, Hagerstown. The Rev. Andrew J. Cooney and the Rev. J. Mark Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Mountainview Cemetery in Sharpsburg.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa.

Vernon Hartranft

WILLIAMSPORT - Vernon "Pat" Hartranft, 88, of Williamsport Nursing Home, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born Dec. 16, 1908, in Washington County, he was the son of the late David S. and Florence Ebersole Hartranft.

He retired from Hagerstown Shoe Co. after a number of years.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by one niece, Rebecca Graziano of Baltimore and two friends who cared for him, Goldie Thomas and Mike Cosey, both of Cearfoss.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Sunset Avenue, Williamsport. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, today from 7 to 9 p.m.
