Mary E. DeHaven
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mary Ella DeHaven, 83, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, at Heartland of Martinsburg.
Born June 18, 1913, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Glusha Cecil and Mary Ellen Mason DeHaven.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob R. DeHaven.
She was a retired co-owner of Jake's Radio and T.V., which her husband started in 1946. They operated the business for 35 years before selling it to their son, L. Dale DeHaven. Before moving to Martinsburg, she worked on a farm with her husband. After moving to Martinsburg, she worked at Interwoven Stocking Co. and Berkeley Woolen Mill.
In her teenage years, she was a member of Ganotown United Methodist Church. At the age of 30, she became a member of First Church of God on High Street and later on Albert Street, Martinsburg. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, Church Aid Society and Christian Endeavor.
In 1963, she and her husband became members of St. Luke's E.U.B. Church, which later became the United Methodist Church. She was a member of Golden Rule Class 21 and served as vice president. She served as president of Adult Fellowship for four years, served as a member of the nominating committee and a member of church administration board. She later became a member of Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church.
She is survived by four sons, Cecil Wayne DeHaven, L. Dale DeHaven and Douglas C. DeHaven, all of Martinsburg, and J. Lynn DeHaven of Washington, D.C.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Pastor Don Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Fred W. Obitts
WILLIAMSPORT - Fred Wayne Obitts, 64, of 11318 Sword Road, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 12, 1932, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late John William and Mary Isabelle Shives Obitts.
He was employed by M.P. Moller for more than 43 years and most recently by King of Instruments.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and served with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Macedonia United Brethren Church, Greencastle, Pa.
He was a member of AARP; Conococheague Tribe 84 Improved Order of Red Men; and Potomac Post 202 American Legion, Williamsport.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Esther Sharon Obitts; two sons, David Dwayne Obitts and Roger Wayne Obitts, both of Pinesburg; one adopted son, Kevin Leon Obitts of Marlowe, W.Va.; three sisters, Marie Agnes Dick of Williamsport, Anita Faye Weaver of Hagerstown and Dottie Maye Hart of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one brother, Donald Leroy Obitts of Williamsport; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcella Martin and Betty J. Deardorff; and two brothers, John E. Obitts Jr. and Roger Leon Obitts.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. The Rev. James E. Swecker will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.
Friends may call at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open Tuesday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.
Dorothy L. Hooper
Dorothy Louise Hooper, 80, formerly of 25 W. Antietam St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Center in Hagerstown.
Born Jan. 9, 1916, in Brunswick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Luther and Emily Mayella Darner Nuse.
She was a member of Owls Club.
She is survived by a friend, Nancy Renner of Hagerstown, who took care of her; one niece and one nephew.
There will be no services or viewing.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Mabel C. Warne
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mabel C. Warne, 82, of 430 Kraiss Ave., died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at her son's home.
Born Oct. 17, 1914, in St. Thomas, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Roy B. and Anna M. Cunningham Bishop.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Samuel D. Warne in 1991 and Harry Steimling in 1966.
She was employed as a nurse's aide for 10 years by Menno Haven in Chambersburg. She had also worked for Chambersburg Hospital.
She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg. She also attended the Living Faith Mennonite Church, Shippensburg, Pa.
She is survived by one son, Jack B. Bishop of Chambersburg; one stepdaughter, Glenda Ashway of Roxbury, Pa.; three sisters, Ethel G. West of Shook Home, Chambersburg, Helen L. Schwartz of Hudson, Fla., and Alcesta M. Staley of Chambersburg; one brother, Roy J. Bishop of Waynesboro, Pa.; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to the charity of one's choice.
Mary E. Ellis
BOONSBORO - Mary E. Ellis, 94, a resident of Fahrney Keedy Memorial Home near Boonsboro, and formerly of 144 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at the home.
Born June 26, 1902, in Keedysville, she was the daughter of the late Lemuel H. and Bertha Shaffer Cline.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Ellis.
She was a homemaker.
She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Boonsboro.
She is survived by one half-sister, Rachel Wagner of Boonsboro; three half-brothers, George Cline of Boonsboro, Paul Cline of Hagerstown and R. James Cline of Wallingford, Pa.; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Boonsboro Cemetery. The Rev. Louis M. Emerick will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

Aaron J. Funk
QUINCY, Pa. - Aaron Jacob Funk, 98, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 5290 Buchanan Trail East, Waynesboro, Pa., and Zullinger, Pa., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born May 19, 1898, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Jacob and Rebecca Omwake Funk.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Reynolds Funk, in 1970.
He retired in 1965 from Frick Co. in Waynesboro after more than 40 years of service, where he was employed in the stock room and as a clerk in the production department.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro.
He was a member of National AARP.
He is survived by two daughters, Anna E. "Betty" Pratt and Mary Jane Simmers, both of Waynesboro; one son, Charles W. Funk of Waynesboro; one sister, Susan E. Price of Portsmouth, Va.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin S. Funk and Ralph O. Funk.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Burns Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro. C. Albert Guyer, chaplain, will officiate.
There will be no public viewing.

Mary M.F. Felegi
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Mary Mildred Fritts Felegi, 78, of 134 Dogwood Road, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, at her residence.
Born May 8, 1918, in Leetown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Trussell Fritts and Grace Clara Good Fritts.
She was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by her husband, George Felegi; three daughters, Mary Louise Fritts of Parkersburg, W.Va., Rebecca Cook Johnson of Charles Town, W.Va., and Esther Elizabeth Fritts Cook of Inwood, W.Va.; four sons, Charles William Fritts and Gary Fritts, both of Middleway, W.Va., Jerry Fritts of Hedgesville, W.Va., and James Fritts of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; two sisters, Margaret Reeder of Frederick, Md., and Anna V. Carey of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; one brother, Eben M. Fritts Sr. of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Myers; and two brothers, Franklin Fritts and Albert Fritts.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Daniel L. Montague III will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Cora S. Akers
NEEDMORE, Pa. - Cora Spade Akers, 72, of R.D. 1, Needmore, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, at ManorCare Nursing Home in Chambersburg, Pa.
Born June 21, 1924, in Crystal Spring, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Chester A. and Achsha Plessinger Spade.
She was an employed by Sagner in McConnellsburg, Pa., for 19 years.
She attended Pleasant Ridge Church of The Brethren in Needmore.
She is survived by her husband, Edison A. Akers, whom she married on June 5, 1942; three sons, Gary A. Akers Sr. of Chambersburg, Larry E. Akers of Little Orleans, Md., and Rex E. Akers of Needmore; two sisters, Velma Connor of Duncansville, Pa., and Alma Calhoun of Everett, Pa.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, one brother and one granddaughter.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., Harrisonville, Pa. The Rev. Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will be in Bedford Memorial Cemetery in Bedford, Pa.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services Wednesday.
