Joseph Pospisil Jr.
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Joseph "Joe Pops" Pospisil Jr., 79, of Route 3, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born June 21, 1917, in Bloomfield, N.J., he was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Rose Brasek Pospisil.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
He also was a member of Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of Moose; Berkeley Post 14, American Legion; and B.P.O. Elks, 778.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Miller Pospisil; one son, Hilton F. Chesterfield II of Cumberland, Md.; three grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Bloomfield.
Burial prayers will be in the Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Levandoski Funeral Home, Bloomfield.
Local arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Virginia M. C. Dunlap
MIDDLEWAY, W.Va. - Virginia Mae Carper Dunlap, 88, of Middleway, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born April 26, 1908, in Middleway, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Fannie Hite Carper.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Grover L. Dunlap.
She had been employed as a specker by Varel Mills, Middleway, and retired as a trimmer from the C.H. Musselman Co.
She was a life member of the Middleway United Methodist Church, the WSCS and the Sunday school of the church.
She is survived by three daughters, Katherine Dawson, Elsie Mae Dunlap and Betty Longerbeam, all of Middleway; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Wilbur Carper, Richard Carper, Neil Carper and James Carper.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va.
The Rev. Charles Frum and the Rev. Kathy Harris will officiate.
Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery, Middleway.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Billy L. Byers
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Billy Lee Byers, 67, of Bunker Hill, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born April 7, 1929, in Glouster, Ohio, he was the son of the late Wesley O. and Lydia Lattamore Byers.
He retired after 20 years as a mechanic for Ryder Truck Line.
A 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War, as chief petty officer.
He was a member of Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW; Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of Moose, Berkeley Post 14; American Legion; and the Eagles Club, Post 4179.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl M. Merling of Oldsmar, Fla., and Lydia M. Whittington of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Wanda Boyer of San Antonio; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Kenneth Edward Butts, 44, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.
The Rev. Owen B. Womack will officiate with the Rev. John R. Yost assisting.
Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Liberty B. Faith Rogers, 78, of 112 S. Fayette St., died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Sept. 29, 1918, in Whittaker, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Clara Linninger Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Rogers, in 1975.
She had been employed by Mercersburg Academy. She retired from J. Schoeneman Co. of Chambersburg in 1983 after 20 years of service.
She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mercersburg.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy M. Rogers of Mercersburg; one son, Thomas E. Rogers of Chambersburg; one stepson, Jack N. Rogers of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8 Linden Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Michael R. Brendle will officiate.
Burial will be in Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon, Pa.
Visitation will be at Linninger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
