Samuel M. Keeney
FREDERICK, Md. - Samuel Mathias Keeney, 64, of 1112 Taney Ave., died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born April 24, 1932, in Lewistown, Md., he was the son of the late Samuel B. and Belva Baugher Keeney.
A truck driver, he worked with Gene Romsburg the past four years, until his retirement in 1994.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Korea Methodist Church, Waynesboro, Pa.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Nancy L. Ricketts Keeney; two daughters, Debbie Maynard of Frederick and Kathy Serio of Walkersville, Md.; one stepdaughter, Lucinda Lookingbill of Frederick; three stepsons, George Lookingbill Jr., C. Roger Scott Jr. and Tony Scott, all of Frederick; four sisters, Virginia Tawney, of near Union Bridge, Md., Grace Forney, of Union Bridge, Betty Albaugh of Keymar, Md., and Frances Kauffman of Frederick; twin brothers, Charles Keeney of Sharpsburg and Roland Keeney of Frederick; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Toms; and one brother, Walter Keeney.
Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, Woodsboro, Md.
The Rev. Robert W. Ellis will officiate.
Burial will be in Rocky Hill Cemetery near Woodsboro.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth P. Turner
Ruth Pauline Turner, 78, of 18317 College Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 5, 1919, in Pleasantville, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Thomas Jefferson and Amanda Houser Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Eli Turner, in 1975.
She was employed by Washington County Hospital, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of Dixon Troxell Post 10 American Legion Auxiliary, Funkstown.
She is survived by her husband, Albert Turner; five daughters, Lorraine Davis of Fairplay, Mary Huff of Bakerton, W.Va., Carolyn Fraley of Hagerstown, Dottie Knight of Sharpsburg and Debbie Hornbarger of Maugansville; two sons, John Stanley Turner of Slocomb, Ala., and Tom Turner of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Nancy Hutzler of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one stepson, Richard Turner of Boonsboro; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Daughtery, Mabel Holmes and Margaret Jackson; two brothers, the Rev. William T. Jackson and Murray Jackson; and one grandson, Bret Hornbarger.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport.
The Rev. Ralph Jamison will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marion B. Tallent Sr.
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Marion Beverly Tallent Sr., 82, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Oct. 11, 1914, in Barnesville, Ga., he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Albert Tallent.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Geneva Lewis Tallent.
He was the owner and operator of Tallent's Flower Shop.
He also was employed as a machinist by Fairchild Aircraft and Corning Glass.
An award-winning artist and wood carver, his work had been exhibited at the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library and the Washington County Museum of Fine Art.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was a past master of Equality Lodge 44, A.F.&A.M.
He is survived by two sons, Marion B. Tallent Jr. of Nashville, Tenn., and Michael Barry Tallent of Hedgesville, W.Va.; and four grandchildren, Michelle Mange, Marion Beverly Tallent III, Michael Barry Tallent II and Frances Geneva Tallent II.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Turner.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The Rev. G. Edward Gore will officiate.
Burial, with masonic graveside services by Equality Lodge 44, A.F.&A.M., will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Paul A. Cosgrove Sr.
FAIRPLAY - Paul Allen Cosgrove Sr., 59, of 17348 Spielman Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 2, 1938, in Mount Briar, Md., he was the son of the late Harry Marvin and Minerva Householder Cosgrove.
He was employed by Craig Paving, retiring in 1992.
He also had been employed by Grove Manufacturing Co. and Richardson Drive for 21 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Louise Lightner Cosgrove; three daughters, Paula L. Phillips of Fairplay, and Juanita Bloyer and Sharon Greer, both of Hagerstown; one son, Paul Cosgrove Jr. of Hagerstown; one stepson, Randy Lightner of Hagerstown; five sisters, Minerva Pauline Pryor, Anna Louise Powell, Dorothy May Pishack, Bessie Viola Smith and Pearl Marie Cosgrove, all of Hagerstown; four brothers, Harry Leroy Cosgrove of Conococheague, Md., Charles Elwood Cosgrove and Harold Joseph Cosgrove, both of Hagerstown, and James Ray Cosgrove of Petersburg, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John Henry Cosgrove.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Burial, with military services conducted by American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42, will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Clear Spring.

Dayton C. Canby
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Dayton Carson Canby, 65, of Hedgesville, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Nov. 21, 1931, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late William G. and Martha Smith Canby.
A retired cook, he had worked at the Snow White Grill, Martinsburg.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Martinsburg.
He is survived by one son, Dayton C. Canby Jr. of Greely, Colo.; one half-brother, Glenville W. Canby; two half-sisters, Mary Bruce Stuckey and Norma G. Cushwa, both of Hedgesville; two aunts; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, George D. Canby; one half- brother, Lewis S. Canby; and two half-sisters, Mazie M. Larkin and Hazel V. Domenico.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Jack Rudy officiating.
Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Phoebie J. Howell
Phoebie Jane Howell, 99, of 439 Summit Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 14, 1897, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George Marshall and Phoebie Howell Hough.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Henry Howell, in 1968.
She attended Calvary Temple, Williamsport.
She is survived by one daughter, Marie A. Titus of Hagerstown; one sister, Dorothy Smallwood of Charles Town; one brother, David Hough; one granddaughter; five great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Thelma V. Howell; one son, Luther H. Howell Jr.; and one grandson, Bobby Titus.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Keedysville.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Phyllis Lorraine Knepper, 70, of Sleepy Hollow, who died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, was a former volunteer with the Washington County Hospital Pink Ladies, and volunteered with the Commission for Aging as a tax adviser.
Nina E. Boyer
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Nina Evelyn Boyer, 74, of Middletown, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at Vindabona Nursing Home, Braddock Heights, Md.
Born Jan. 19, 1922, near Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Osceola and Beryl Rice Gordon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Clark Boyer, on Feb. 13, 1987.
She was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Jefferson, Md.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Peterson of Fayetteville, N.C., Barbara Blickenstaff of Myersville, Md., and Judy Summers of Middletown; one son, James Clark Boyer of Middletown; two sisters, Beryl Jackson of Frederick, Md., and Phyllis Culler-Feageville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Lee Gordon, in July 1996.
Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown.
The Rev. Brian Barth will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Jefferson.
