Wayne C. Bridges Jr.
CUMBERLAND, Md. - Wayne C. Bridges Jr., 33, of Cumberland, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Oct. 12, 1963, in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of Wayne C. Bridges Sr. and Judy Winfield Bridges Zihlman.
He was employed as supervisor of delivery and collection by the Cumberland Post Office.
He also had been employed by the Hagerstown Post Office.
He was a member of the Evergreen Hunting Club; Fraternal Order of Eagles, Frostburg Lodge 1273; and Maplehurst Country Club. He was a former member of the Maryland National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Barbara Bolinger Bridges; one son, Jeremy Wayne Bridges, at home; one sister, Kelly Bridges of Cumberland; and seven nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Sowers Funeral Home, 60 W. Main St., Frostburg.
The Rev. Richard Jewell will officiate.
Burial will be in Eckhart Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Frank Cheri
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va.- Frank "Happy" Cheri, 83, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, Md.
Born March 20, 1913, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Henry and Angelina D'Alois Cheri.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Arvella Payne Cheri, on June 6, 1994.
He owned and operated a produce company in Washington, D.C., before moving to Berkeley Springs.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, Council 117, Berkeley Springs, and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1483, Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by three sons, Frank S. Cheri of Bowie, Md., Michael H. Cheri of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Anthony A. Winkle of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Joyce A. Underwood of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one stepson, Ronald A. Andrews of Upper Marlboro; one sister, Rose Corsillo of Silver Spring, Md.; one brother, George Cheri of Slidell, La.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Cheri; seven brothers, Albert Cheri, Nick Cheri, Henry Cheri, Jim Cheri, Louie Cheri, William Cheri, and Columbia Cheri; and one stepdaughter, Carolyn J. Kiley.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs.
The Rev. Hennis H. Fox will officiate.
Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
There will be a Junior Order Lodge Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Margaret A.G. Cooper
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Margaret A. Graham Cooper, 92, of Piney Mountain Nursing Home, 6375 Chambersburg Road, and formerly of 15584 North Wood Court, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Oct. 26, 1904, in Beuna, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Lucinda Harr Graham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Shirley Cooper, in July 1966. They were married on Oct. 28, 1934.
She was a 1923 graduate of Davis High School, Davis, W.Va.
She was of the Lutheran faith.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Parsons, W.Va.
She was active in various garden clubs and civic organizations.
She worked with the board of elections in West Virginia and Washington, D.C.
She also was active in school organizations in various school districts.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley A. Fitz of Blue Ridge Summit; three sons, John D. Cooper of Sabinsville, Pa., Lowell A. Cooper of Chesterfield, Pa., and Joseph M. Cooper of Croom, Md.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Rose Marie Cooper in 1948; one son, Robert A. Cooper in 1990; two sisters; and seven brothers.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in Flannagan Hill Cemetery, Red Creek, W.Va.
There will be no public viewing.

Harry W. Crouse
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Harry W. Crouse, 72, of 870 Buchanan Trail East, Greencastle, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Born Nov. 4, 1924, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late William J. and Bertha M. Koons Crouse.
He retired in 1980 after 35 years with Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa., where he was a supervisor in ammunition and general supply departments.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theater and the China-Burma-India Theater.
He enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary K. Biser Crouse; one daughter, Pamela E. Crouse of Aston, Pa.; one son, Brian H. Crouse, at home; four sisters, Mary Long of Waynesboro, Pa., Clara Helsel and Jean Shifler, both of Chambersburg, Pa., and Betty Freeman of Quincy, Pa.; three brothers, Russell Crouse of Waynesboro, Paul Crouse of Zullinger, Pa., and George Crouse of Greencastle; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Crouse and Edna Damuth; and three brothers, Jacob Crouse, Richard Crouse and Ralph Crouse.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Kim Blocher will officiate.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle, with military graveside honors provided by the Chambersburg VFW Post 1599 honor guard.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The Greencastle VFW will hold a memorial service at 8 p.m. and Mount Pisgah Masonic Lodge also will hold a masonic service at 9 p.m.

Earl W. Richards
LEMASTERS, Pa. - Earl W. Richards, 65, of 4829 Steele Ave., Lemasters, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa.
Born Dec. 11, 1931, in Mercersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late David and Dorothy Oller Richards.
He was employed as a mason by Ralph Tolbert Construction and Laurich Builders, both of Chambersburg, Pa.
He was last employed as superintendent of Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, from 1978 to 1988.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War.
He was awarded two Silver Stars; five Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts while serving with the 24th Infantry, 21st Regiment, "Gimlet."
He earned his Airborne Wings as a member of the 17th Airborne.
As a member of Platoon X, he parachuted into Korea three days before the war began.
He was a member of Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241 and Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517, both in Mercersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Clarissa Rockwell Richards, whom he married July 8, 1952; four daughters, Tammy Shadle, Dora Creager, Lil Crawford and Debbie Hammond, all of Chambersburg; one son, David L. Richards of Lemasters; one step son, Richard McFadden of Mercersburg; one brother, William H. Richards of Mercersburg; one granddaughter; four stepgrandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son in 1978.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.
The Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate.
Military graveside services will be conducted by VFW Post 6241.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

Paul B. Shipper
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Paul Bishop Shipper, 99, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, in Heartland Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 6, 1897, in Jones Spring, W.Va., he was the son of the late Dr. James H. and Jenny F. Bishop Shipper.
He was a graduate of Hedgesville High School.
He retired in 1978 after 53 years with the Craddock Terry Shoe Corp., Lynchburg, Va.
He also was employed by Katz Department Store, Martinsburg, and Bentz and Dunn, Hagerstown.
He enjoyed his farm and his orchard.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
He also was a member of the Robert White Lodge 67, A.F.&A.M. and was honored for 75 years as a Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Lilian Flagg Shipper; one daughter, Ann Oates of Rochester, N.Y.; two sons, John Shipper of Warrenton, Va., and Frank Shipper of Salisbury, Md.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Hester Shipper, Mary Byrer and Mildred Shipper; and one brother, Hugh Shipper.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The Rev. Robert S. Hill Jr. will officiate.
Burial will be in the Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary E. Greenfield
Mary E. Greenfield, 70, of Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown, and formerly of Inwood, W.Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Nov. 8, 1926, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Leonidas and Omey Pauline Crawford Richmond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur H. "Web" Greenfield, on April 25, 1974.
She was a member of Tabler Station Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet L. Troiano of Martinsburg, Daisy B. Howard and Norma Jean Masters, both of Inwood; three sons, John W. Greenfield of Martinsburg, Douglas R. Greenfield and Philip Lee Greenfield, both of Inwood; four sisters, Ethel Mason, Bessie Mason and Lillie Bowers, all of Martinsburg, and Elsie Canby of Inwood; one brother, Homer Richmond of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Miller Newcomb and Bertha Ann Greenfield; one son, Charles W. Greenfield; five sisters, Sally Smith, Mildred Everhart, Gladys Heitt, Jessie Richmond and Margaret Frances Keesecker; and four brothers, Harry L. Richmond, John W. Richmond, George L. Richmond and Charles R. Richmond.
Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Pastor Paul Flick will officiate.
Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Violet R. Peters
Violet Ruth Peters, 81, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at her home.
Born Oct. 23, 1915, in Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of the late Albert David and Viola Ladora Ralston Bristal.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Wilbur Peters, in 1961.
She was a 1932 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She owned and operated Peters' Dry Cleaners, specializing in alternations and custom tailoring.
She was a member of Calvary Grace Brethren Church, Hagerstown, where she taught Sunday School for 35 years.
She was a member of the choir and Women's Mission Council.
She a member of Williamsport Homemakers for many years and YMCA.
She won many awards for her paintings in amateur contests.
She is survived by four daughters, Madolyn "Madge" McAbee of Williamsport, Joyce C. Kline of Middletown, Md., Juanita Peters of Hagerstown, and Dolores J. Petkus of Chicago; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Dietrich; and one brother, Edwin Bristal.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
The Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
