Raymond E. Viands
Raymond Elwood Viands, 76, a resident of Avalon Manor, and formerly of 138 Winter St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 16, at Avalon Manor.
Born Jan. 6, 1921, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Viands.
He retired from Hemingway Transportation.
He was a member of Teamsters Local 992.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Dunahugh Viands; one son, Steven Brent Viands of South Carolina; one stepson, Terry Wayne Burger of Hagerstown; one sister, Mildred Nield of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one son, Dana E. Viands.
Graveside services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown. James Fowler will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Hazel M. Barton
Hazel Marie Barton, 89, of 335 Valley Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 8, 1907, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Adam D. and Emma C. Neff Hawbaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence W. Barton, in 1983.
She attended Otterbein United Methodist Church.
She is survived by six daughters, Helen D. Stonebraker of Clear Spring, Faye E. St. Clair, Dorothy L. Jolliffe, Jean L. Jenkins, and Darlene M. Swales, all of Hagerstown, and Alda M. Jenkins of Charles Town, W.Va.; four sons, Clyde D. Barton, Lawrence W. Barton Jr., Charles D. Barton, and Robert D. Barton, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Kathleen Miller of Hagerstown; one brother, Robert I. Hawbaker of Hagerstown; 28 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Sarah Jane Barton and Peggy A. Barton, and 20 sisters and brothers.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam Street, Hagerstown.
The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate.
Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ruth E. F. Barbehenn
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- Ruth E. Fisher Barbehenn, 94, of ManorCare Nursing Home, and formerly of 35 West North Street, Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Feb. 19, 1902, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Murray B. and Grace Maude Weaver Fisher.
She married her husband, Joel L. Barbehenn, on Jan. 1, 1931.
He preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1963.
She was a 1922 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
She was employed by Waynesboro Hospital and Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro, doing clerical work.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro and the 3-M Sunday School Class.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley B. Knepper of Waynesboro; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one cousin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence E. Fisher.
Private services will be held Monday at the convenience of the family at Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
Pastor Kim Blocher will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
There will be no public viewing.

Roy C. Grove
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Roy C. Grove, 71, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Born Aug. 28, 1925, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Virginia Dunham Grove.
He retired from the Charles Town Race Track as a mutual clerk.
He was the former owner and operator of Grove Contracting Co.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
He also was a member of BPO Elks 778, Williamsport American Legion Post 202, Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of Moose and the West Virginia Union of Mutual Clerks.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ambrose Grove; one daughter, Nancy Carter Grove Warrenfeltz of Martinsburg; four sisters, Mary A. Webb of Norcross, Ga., Helen Forry of York, Pa., Minnie Pomeroy of Apocka, Fla. and Leta Myers of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two brothers, Harry D. Grove of Hagerstown and Harold V. Grove of Berkeley Springs; one granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles Grove Jr., Leslie Grove, John Grove and Jerry Grove.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The Rev. Ray Roberson will officiate.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

Viola G. Ruth
Viola Grace Ruth, 70, of Village Mill Drive, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at the home of her daughter, Brenda Woltman, 11734 Burnside Ave., Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 18, 1926, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ralph E. and Vivian DeHaven Fleming Sr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Ruth, in 1978.
She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Woltman and Paula Ruth, both of Hagerstown, and Linda Hull of Clear Spring; three sons, James E. Ruth Jr. of Bedington, W.Va., William T. Ruth and Robert E. Ruth, both of Hagerstown; one half-sister, Dorothy M. Fleming of Winchester, Va.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph E. Fleming Jr.
Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Alice N. A. Barnhart
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Alice Naomi Alter Barnhart, 79, of ManorCare, and formerly of 12970 Old Forge Road, Waynesboro, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born April 20, 1917, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel C. and Florence Bessie Clark Alter.
She lived in Colorado for a short time.
She married her husband, William Grimm Barnhart on Nov. 28, 1935.
He preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1959.
She attended Beauty School in Carlisle, Pa.
She owned and operated two ice cream shops in Waynesboro, the King Pin on West Main Street and The Little Drive-In on North Grant Street, Extended.
She worked at a beauty shop in Hagerstown.
She cared for her ill sister until her sister died.
She then worked at Washington County Hospital in the mail department for a number of years.
Prior to retiring in 1980, she worked for May's Optical in Hagerstown.
She was a member of Grace Brethren Church, where she served on the adult Sunday school class, the kitchen committee and worked with child evangelism of the church.
She also did volunteer work with the Hagerstown Mission.
She is survived by one daughter, Gloria Ann "Sue" White of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Fahrney, and three brothers, Jacob Alter, George Alter and Charles Alter.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grace Brethren Church, 250 Philadelphia Ave., Waynesboro.
Pastor Roger K. Myers will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro, and one half hour prior to the services at the church.

Margaret E. Feightner
SHARPSBURG - Margaret Elizabeth Feightner, 50, of 16933 Shepherdstown Pike, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Born Jan. 31, 1946, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Crum Harrison of Frederick, Md., and the late Joseph Franklin Harrison Sr.
She was a 1964 graduate of Frederick High School.
She was a 1967 graduate of City Hospital Nursing School.
She was employed as a licensed practical nurse by several hospitals and nursing homes.
She also was employed as a licensed real estate agent by the Frederick Housing Authority.
She was a long-time employee of the State of Maryland, having worked for the Montgomery County Department of Social Services, Frederick County Department of Social Services, the Maryland Comptrollers Office in Frederick and most recently with the Washington County Comptrollers Office, Hagerstown.
She was active in community and church activities and was instrumental in the establishment of the Middletown Food Bank for which she received a Citizens of the Year recognition.
She was an active member of the senior choir of Zion Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school.
Most recently, she led the combined choirs of Mt. Zion, Holy Trinity and Salem Lutheran Churches, in the Sharpsburg area.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Blaine Edward Feightner; one stepdaughter, Polly Sumansky of Terre Haute, Ind.; one sister, Victoria F. Johnson of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; three brothers, Joseph F. Harrison Jr. of Hagerstown; James C. S. Harrison of Frederick and Paul T. Harrison of Fairfax, Va.; two nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Emilie C. Harrison.
Memorial services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Church, 107 W. Main Street, Middletown, Md.
The Rev. Donald L. Turley will officiate.
Burial will be private.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Nancy M. Greenfield Turner, 56, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at her home under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born May 7, 1940, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harlan and Bessie Leonard Greenfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Turner Sr., on March 10, 1994.
She was employed as a private duty nursing assistant.
She was a member of Berkeley Station Independent Bible Church.
She is survived by two sons, Danny Brien Barrett of Martinsburg and C. Edward Turner Jr. of Philadelphia; five sisters, Bonnie Ring, Lillian Symons, Jane Ring, and Gloria Mason, all of Martinsburg, and Eleanor Jefferson of Ashland, Va.; five brothers, James Greenfield, the Rev. Fred A. Greenfield, Floyd Greenfield, Frank Greenfield and Jack Greenfield, all of Martinsburg; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Julia Grapes, Mabel Brady and Lena Wolf, and three brothers, Martin Greenfield, William Greenfield and Charles Greenfield.
Services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The Rev. William C. Crowe and the Rev. Fred A. Greenfield will officiate.
Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 9 p.m.
