James L. Luckhardt
INWOOD, W.Va. - James Leslie Luckhardt, 54, of Inwood, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at his home.
Born March 1, 1942, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Arthur and Ella Hayes Luckhardt.
He was employed as a carpenter.
He was an active member of Full Gospel Pentecostal Church at Four Mile Woods, W.Va.
He is survived by one son, J. Pacer Luckhardt of Baltimore; one sister and brother-in-law, Marcelle and the Rev. Raymond E. Jones, with whom he resided; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at noon at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, W.Va.
The Rev. Oscar Motilal will officiate.
Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Carl J. Reed
MOUNT LENA - Services for Carl James Reed, 75, 8900 Lums Lane, Boonsboro, who died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, will be today at 2 p.m. at Community Mennonite Church, National Pike, Mount Lena.
The Rev. Ray Phillips and the Rev. Lewis Coss will officiate.
Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
Military graveside services will be conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Honor Guard.
Grace I. Frey
WOLFSVILLE - Grace I. Frey, 81, of Wolfsville, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 27, 1915, in Myersville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Noah P. and Mary Etta Grossnickle Garnand.
Her husband, James Peter "Pete" Frey, died in 1970.
She retired from Cavetown Planing Mill Co. after 40 years of service.
She was a member of Myersville Church of the Brethren.
She also was a member of East End Senior Citizens Club in Hagerstown.
She is survived by two sons, James Richard Frey of Wolfsville, and Ronald L. Frey of Hagerstown; three grandsons, James Peter Frey, II of Greybill, Wyo., Mitch L. Frey of Berlin, Md., and Neil L. Frey of Johnstown, Pa.; and three great-grandsons.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville.
The Rev. Al Morningstar will officiate.
Burial will be in Salem United Methodist Cemetery in Wolfsville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

John H. Cormany
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - John H. Cormany, 83, of 870A Menno Village, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield, N.C.
Born March 25, 1913, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Eber and Annie Heckman Cormany.
He was a 1930 graduate of Chambersburg High School.
He was employed with T.B. Woods Sons Co. in Chambersburg for 47 years, retiring in 1983.
He served as secretary-treasurer and assistant to the president.
He was a charter member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, and a former trustee and member of the administrative board.
He was church treasurer for more than 30 years.
He was a member for more than 43 years and served as treasurer of the Chambersburg Kiwanis Club.
He also was a member of the Franklin Board of Associates with Dauphin Deposit Bank and Trust Co. in Chambersburg.
He was a former Boy Scout leader.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen Sites Cormany, whom he married July 16, 1938; three sons, John Michael Cormany of West Chester, Pa., Philip M. Cormany of Rockville, Md., and David A. Cormany of Pittsburgh; one brother, Robert E. Cormany of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.
The Rev. Frank O. Monroe will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery in Clear Spring.
There will be no viewing.

Benjamin Gates Jr.
ROUZERVILLE, Pa. - Benjamin "Gus" Gates Jr., 74, of Rouzerville, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996, at his home.
Born in Waynesboro, Pa., on Aug. 30, 1922, he was the son of the late Bernard and Minnie Rebecca Creager Gates.
He held various construction jobs, one of which involved work at the Site "R" Tunnel Complex.
He then was self-employed as a drywall hanger for a number of years.
Prior to retiring in 1994, he was a drywall hanger for North American Housing at Point of Rocks, Md.
A vetern of the U.S. Army during World War II, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as a communications specialist.
He attended Grace Baptist Church in Waynesboro.
He was a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Train Collectors Association, and National AARP.
He also enjoyed traveling, Waynesboro history, playing the banjo and the harmonica.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bette J. DeBold Gates; four daughters, Mary Gates Kenney of Frostburg, Md., Rebecca Shank of Chambersburg, Pa., Joyce Dodson and Lorri Willard, both of Rouzerville; four sons, Darrell Gates, Benjamin W. Gates, W. "Chip" Gates and Zachary Gates, all of Rouzerville; one sister, Agnes Gates Carr of Hagerstown; one brother, Charles Gates of Waynesboro; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mollie Rebecca Gates and one brother, Percy Gates.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. John F. Huff, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery near Rouzerville, with military graveside services conducted by Charles M. Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599, Chambersburg Honor Guard.

Paul M. Barney
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Paul Mitchell Barney, 83, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born Jan. 11, 1913, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late David S. and Bessie Hess Barney.
He retired from Martin Marietta.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army, and received the Purple Heart.
He attended Pilgrim Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two sons, Paul W. Barney and Larry J. Barney, both at home; one brother, David S. Barney of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one grandson; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Locke and Amelia Barney; and two brothers, Homer Barney and Bruce Barney.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg.
The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate.
Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Eleanor S. Kear
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Eleanor S. Kear, 64, of Hyattsville, Md., and 14286 Wingerton Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 14, 1932, in Glen Ridge, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Percy and Esther Robertson Austen.
She graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey, and received her master's degree in economics from New York University.
She formerly was employed with the U.S. Commerce Department in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Greencastle, Pa., and Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Hyattsville.
She was an avid staistician and did financial analysis and enjoyed studying financial portolios.
She also enjoyed sewing and knitting.
She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Kear of Hyattsville, whom she married June 10, 1961; two brothers, Alfred Austen of Center Valley, Pa., and William Austen of Charles County, Md.; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 385 S. Ridge Ave., Greencastle, with the Rev. Joseph Stahura as celebrant.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, today from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
Mary L.W. Callaway
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary Lou West Callaway, 66, a resident of Shook Home, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996, at University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.
Born July 11, 1930, in Abington, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry J. and Mary Virginia Griffith Callaway.
Early in life, she was employed at Stanley Company, Chambersburg.
She then worked with her husband in the Callaway Furniture Store in Delaware for 25 years.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda D. Ardinger of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Bonnie J. Sellers of Chambersburg; one son, Richard R. Swope of Salem, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Donna F. Garcia of Delaware, and Beverly A. Geffon of Florida; one stepson, Paul R. Callaway Jr. of Delaware; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Loretta Belle Kelly; and one brother, Rodney F. West.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Shook Home, 55 S. Second St., Chambersburg. Theodore Hughes, chaplain, will officiate.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no public viewing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the benevolent fund of Shook Home, 55 S. Second St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
