Nellie V. Morrison

Nellie Virginia Morrison, 89, formerly of Potomac Towers, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997, at Western Maryland Hospital Center.

Born July 27, 1907, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late W. Frank and Vernie V. Ryan Morrison.

She is survived by one niece and several cousins.

Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

John P. Myers

THURMONT, Md. - John Paul "Jay" Myers, 65, of 12829 Catoctin Furnace Road, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Md.

Born Aug. 4, 1931, in Bath County, Va., he was the son of the late John E. and Sadie Hoffman Myers.

He was employed by R.F. Kline Co. as a foreman, retiring in 1993 after 40 years of service.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Army, 25th Division. He received the Purple Heart.

He attended the Christian Church in Millboro, Va.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Catherine Breeden Myers, whom he married Sept. 29, 1956; one son, Thomas L. Myers of Catoctin Furnace, Md.; two sisters, Alice Hodge of Williamsville, Va., and Marilyn McCallester of Millboro; two brothers, William L. Myers of Hagerstown, and Hugh C. Myers of Buena Vista, Va.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont. The Rev. Douglas L. Griffin will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from noon to 9 p.m.

On Thursday, his remains will repose from noon to 2 p.m. at Millboro Christian Church in Millboro. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Millboro Christian Church, Millboro, Va. 24460; or to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21701.

William S. Moser

WASHINGTON, Pa. - William Steele "Bill" Moser, 69, of Washington, and formerly of Hagerstown and Masontown, Pa., died Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, at Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington.

Born Aug. 19, 1927, in Nemacolin, Pa., he was the son of the late Warren Steele Moser and Elizabeth Conway Moser.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Krismanic Moser, on Dec. 24, 1996.

He graduated with honors from Taylor-Alderdice High School in Pittsburgh.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.

For 25 years, he was a member of the editorial staff of Herald-Standard newspaper in Uniontown, Pa., where his duties included news writer, columnist, feature story writer and backup news editor. For the next 13 years, he managed a DuPont automotive warehouse and outlet in Hagerstown. He then served as quality control manager at McDonald Ford Inc. in McDonald, Pa.

He served as mayor of Masontown from 1970 through 1978.

He was honored several times by Pennsylvania State University School of Journalism and Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association.

He was a member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church in Masontown.

He was a member VFW Post 4584 in Masontown, where he served three times as commander. He was commander of VFW's Fayette County Council. He had been commander of VFW's 23rd District, which is comprised of Fayette and Somerset counties, Pa. He served as chairman of Fayette County Child Welfare Services. He did volunteer work for the county's Heart Association and Cancer Society. He organized the first eight 20-mile walks for the county's March of Dimes. He was a Boy Scout cubmaster in Masontown.

He was a vocalist for 17 years with the Johnny Vast Orchestra.

He is survived by one daughter, Lesa Lynn Moser Thieroff of Washington; two sons, William S. Moser II of New Breman, Ohio, and Lt. Col. Buz Moser of Advance, N.C.; one brother, Warren E. Moser of Downingtown, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 1 p.m. at All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Masontown. The Rev. Edward C. Tajc will be celebrant. Burial will be in Jacobs Lutheran Cemetery, Masontown. Military graveside services will be conducted by Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 4584 and Masontown American Legion Post 423.

Friends will be received at Haky Funeral Home, 515 N. Main St., Masontown, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday until 12:30 p.m., when a prayer service will be held.

Raymond T. Wolfe Sr.

MYERSVILLE, Md. - Raymond Thomas Wolfe Sr., 74, of 3976B Wistman Lane, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997, at his home.

Born April 16, 1922, in Harmony, Md., he was the son of the late Albert C. and Ida Winfield Wolfe.

He was a bricklayer and carpenter for many years in Frederick County, Md.

He was a member of Harmony Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Virginia Fink Wolfe; five daughters, Darlene Wolfe of Myersville, Oneida "Nita" McFarland of New Market, Md., Cheryl Knapp of Hagerstown, Gloria Funk of Dickerson, Md., and Donna Grossnickle of Frederick, Md.; six sons, Raymond "Sonny" Wolfe Jr. and Donald Wolfe, both of Myersville, Thomas Wolfe of Thurmont, Md., Terry Wolfe of Big Pool, Michael "Tony" Wolfe of Myersville, and Joseph Wolfe of Frederick; two sisters, Orpha Eccard and Olive Blickenstaff, both of Myersville; one brother, Laffie Wolfe of Myersville; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Marlin Ray Wolfe; eight brothers and sisters, Alvey Wolfe, Nellie Hildebrand, Charles Wolfe, Willie Wolfe, Elvin Wolfe, Arthur Wolfe, Earl Wolfe and Ethel Gross.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Harmony Church of the Brethren in Myersville. The Rev. Tracy Wiser will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery in Myersville.

Friends may call today from noon to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Memorial donations may be made to the Brethren Air Conditioning Fund or to Frederick Memorial Hospital Hospice and Home Care, 400 W. Seventh St., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Guy E. Habercom Jr.

ARLINGTON, Va. - Guy E. Habercom Jr., 77, of Arlington, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, in Arlington.

Born Jan. 10, 1920, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Guy E. Sr. and Jessie Donaldson Habercom.

He was a 1937 graduate of Hagerstown High School, and played on the football team.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy on a mine sweeper in the South Pacific.

He attended the University of Nevada.

He is survived by his children, Bobbie Liegus of Alexandria, Va., Alana Miller of Arlington, Susan Brockmeyer of Washington, D.C., Caroline Kirik of Orlando, Fla., Guy E. Habercom III of Palm Bay, Fla., and Bruce Habercom of San Diego; one sister, LaRue Duffy of Hagerstown; two half-brothers, David Habercom of Knoxville, Tenn., and Mark Habercom of Pulaski, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; his companion, Kathleen "Kay" Whorrell; and his stepmother, Nellie Mae Habercom of Decatur, Ala.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lt. Col. Alan L. Habercom.

Graveside services and inurnment will be held Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery.

Arrangements are by DeVol Funeral Home in Washington, D.C.

Mary E. Hildebrand

Mary Elizabeth Hildebrand, 87, of 55 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, and formerly of Funkstown, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 25, 1909, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late John William and Hazel Pauline Mercer Klipp.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob C. Hildebrand, in 1964.

She was employed by Westinghouse in Baltimore. She was previously employed by Fairchild Aircraft and Byron's Shoe Factory, both in Hagerstown.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Hildebrand of Falling Waters, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jacob C. Hildebrand Jr., eight brothers and sisters.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Arnold F. Brown will officiate. Burial will be Rocky Springs Cemetery, Rocky Springs, Md.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Gloria M.M. Garver

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Gloria M. Miller Garver, 72, of 243 Landis Ave., was pronounced dead at her home Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, as the result of a house fire.

Born Jan. 20, 1924, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Robert Raymond and Helena Olivet Weaver Miller.

She was a 1941 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

Early in life, she was employed as a secretary at Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing in Hagerstown.

She was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Waynesboro.

She also was a member of National AARP.

While raising her children, she was involved in Boy Scouts and the band auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert Lane Garver, whom she married Aug. 6, 1945; one daughter, Diane L. Wolfensberger of Clear Spring; one son, Larry S. Garver of Waynesboro; and three grandsons.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Helena Reel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 112 N. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hemler, as celebrant. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

There will be no public viewing but the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Veterans Affairs Center, W.Va. 9, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Ronald E. Barnhart Sr.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Ronald Eugene Barnhart Sr., 56, of 11473 Timmons Drive, died Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, at his home.

Born Sept. 14, 1940, in State Line, Pa., he was the son of Ravenel A. Hartle Barnhart of Greencastle, and the late Nevin Barnhart.

He was a 1958 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served in Hawaii and Philadelphia as a military policeman.

He worked for Lanehart Construction Co. in Greencastle. He then worked at Three Mile Island near Harrisburg for three years in the 1970s, and then for Crum Electric in Frederick, Md., for about 10 years. At the time of his death, he had been employed at Fresh Express for five years.

He was a member of Frank Harbaugh American Legion Post 373 and Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post 6319, both in Greencastle.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Shirley Y. Ford Barnhart, whom he married Aug. 24, 1963; four daughters, Teresa J. Clever of St. Thomas, Pa., Melissa Michele Barnhart of Greencastle, Ronda L. Barnhart of Hagerstown, and Raenell Timmons of Greencastle; one son, Ronald E. Barnhart Jr. of Shermans Dale, Pa.; one brother, Nevin "Nick" Barnhart of Greencastle; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. The Rev. Howard L. Beaver and James Clever will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
