Edward L. Cross Sr.
INWOOD, W.Va. - Edward Lee Cross Sr., 90, of Inwood, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Aug. 24, 1906, in Tunnleton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward E. and Martha Inez Ruckel Cross.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Cross, on Nov. 12, 1994.
He was a graduate of Tunnleton High School. He also was a graduate of Shepherd College.
He was employed as a teacher in Preston County, W.Va., from 1936 until 1954. He also was employed as plant manager of Interwoven Stocking Co., Morristown, Tenn., and was involved with the West Virginia Legislative Auditors Department.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Tennessee; was secretary of Tennessee Conservation League; a former member and president of Cumberland Valley Field Trail Club; was on the Tennessee Game and Fish Commission and the board of directors of Tennessee Manufacturers Association. He was an outdoorsman and sportsman.
He is survived by one daughter, Charlotte K. Zombro of Fayetteville, Pa.; one son, Edward L. Cross Jr. of Inwood; one sister, Helen Camp of Morgantown, W.Va.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Cross.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Patricia M. Coffield
ATHENS, Ga. - Patricia Mae Coffield, 71, of Julian Drive, and formerly of the greater Portland, Maine, area, and Chambersburg, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at Athens Regional Hospital.
Born in Portland, she was the daughter of the late John and Doris Bartlett McCusker.
She attended Portland Schools.
She lived in Chambersburg from 1961 until 1981. She lived in Littleton, N.H., from 1981 until 1990 and operated the Continental 93 Motor Inn. She retired in Scarborough, Maine, in 1990. In 1993 she moved to Watkinsville, Ga.
She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, William T. Coffield Jr.; one daughter, with whom she lived, Dr. Julie Coffield of Watkinsville; three sons, Rick Coffield and Tim Coffield, both of Littleton, and John Coffield of Stone, Mont.; two sisters, Marie Pelletier of Lewiston, Maine, and Kathleen Boynton of Scarborough, Maine; one brother, Donald McCusker of Westerville, Ohio; five grandchildren; one aunt; one uncle; and nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Holy Cross Church. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Grace T. Zahn
Grace T. Zahn, 88, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at Clearview Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 7, 1908, in Indiana, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Gennie Lydie Telford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Zahn.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and the former Friendship Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Renwick and Mrs. William Carahan; one brother, Edward Telford; and one half-brother, Blair Bisner.
Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen B. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Leitersburg Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lester S. Carbaugh
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Lester S. Carbaugh, 83, of 4131 Buchanan Trail West, died Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.
Born Feb. 14, 1913, in Welsh Run, Pa., he was the son of the late Samuel R. and Florence Stahl Carbaugh.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha L. Keadle Carbaugh, on March 19, 1995.
He had farmed in the Pleasant Hall, Greencastle and Mercersburg, Pa., areas. He had been employed by the former ELM Feeds, Greencastle, mixing feed and driving a truck. He retired in 1968, after 18 years of service. After his retirement, he enjoyed truck farming and providing child care for his grandchildren.
He was a member of Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church, Mercersburg.
He is survived by one daughter, Sarah J. Martin of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; one son, D. Henry Carbaugh of Chambersburg; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Miriam Seville; and one brother, Roy Carbaugh.
Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church. The Rev. Curtis E. Bryant and the Rev. Lorne G. Lichty will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Kenneth R. Albright I
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Kenneth R. "Hawkeye" Albright I, 50, of Route 4, died Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, at his home under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born June 18, 1946, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Alfred Lewis and Elouise Winifield Albright.
He was employed as a truck driver by the City of Martinsburg.
He was a member of Tomahawk Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Plotner Albright; three sons, Kenneth R. Albright II, at home, and Darren R. Albright and Tierrance S. Albright, both of Inwood, W.Va.; six sisters, Betty Peacher of Charles Town, W.Va., Nancy Slevin, Debbie Johnson, Beverly Stotler, Darlene Plott and Linda Mendez, all of Martinsburg, W.Va.; five brothers, Gary Albright of Hedgesville, Donald Albright of Vanville, W.Va., Richard Albright and Johnny Albright, both of Martinsburg, and Dennis Albright of Arden, W.Va.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Jerry Holdman will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
LaRue K. Muhly
WILLIAMSPORT - LaRue K. Muhly, 80, of Homewood Retirement Community, died Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 17, 1916, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Bert K. and Corrine Rowland Kitzmiller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Muhly, in 1963.
She retired from the Washington County Board of Education in 1983.
Following her retirement, she was a volunteer at Washington County Hospital and the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.
She was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.
She is survived by one daughter, Brooke Bonner of Falls Church, Va.; and two sisters, Valerie Cline of Hagerstown and Virginia Lee Hinton of Sturgis, Ky.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Prince of Peace Chapel, St. John's Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the chapel 30 minutes before the services on Saturday.

John A. O'Bold
RANSON, W.Va. - John A. O'Bold, 90, of Ranson, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born April 16, 1906, in Tuxedo, Md., he was the son of the late William and Anna Singling O'Bold.
He retired after many years as a self-employed sign painter.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with four Bronze Stars.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town.
He is survived by one brother, Francis O'Bold of Annandale, Va.; and a close friend, Pearl E. Shaffer of Ranson.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Mark O'Bold.
Memorial services will be held Friday, at 10 a.m., at St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town. The Rev. Bert Valdes will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
There will be no visitation.

Jess D. Orndorff
BRUNSWICK, Md. - Jess David Orndorff, 84, of 1 Concord Drive, died Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, at Homewood Retirement Center, Frederick, Md.
Born Oct. 13, 1912, in Brunswick, he was the son of the late Daniel and Carrie Carter Orndorff.
He was a 1931 graduate of Brunswick High School.
He was a retired policeman with 38 years of service with B&O Railroad at Union Station in Washington, D.C.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Brunswick.
He was a former councilman for the town of Brunswick. He served as Brunswick's mayor from 1966 to 1980, the longest mayoral term in town history.
He was a member of Brunswick Lodge 191 A.F.&A.M.; the Brunswick Lions Club; an honorary member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1582; Order of Eastern Star Chapter 97, all of Brunswick. He was a former member of Frederick County Liquor Commission and past president of Frederick County Council of Governments. He was an honorary member of Steadman-Keenen Post 96 of American Legion and a life member of Brunswick Volunteer Fire Co.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bessie Shumaker Orndorff; one daughter, Karen Wilklow of Rosemont, Md.; one sister, Mary Cummings of Brunswick; one grandson; one step-granddaughter; one great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Orndorff.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Brunswick, 7 S. Maryland Ave., Brunswick. The Rev. Robert McCullough will officiate. Burial will be in Old Brethren Cemetery, Brownsville.
