Hazen W. Spearin

Hazen W. "Gentle Ben" Spearin, 82, of Yarmouth Rd., died May 11, 2003, in a Lewiston Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
His wife, Blanche L. Worthen Spearin, also died in the accident.
He was born in Robbinston, a son of Alonzo A. and Evelyn M. Morrell Spearin.
He attended Robbinston Ridge Elementary School and was a 1940 graduate of Calais Academy. He graduated from Gray Business College in Long Beach, CA, and California for a number of years returning to NC.
Funeral services will be held in conjunction with his wife's at 11 A.M., Saturday, May 17, at Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham. Visiting will be held from 10-11 A.M., prior to the service. The Rev. Eva Cutler will officiate. Interment will follow in Gray Village Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Gray Rescue, 125 Shaker Road, Gray, Maine Medical Center.
Larry was born September 26, 1951, a son of Morris "Josh" and Bertha Murinson and attended Portland schools where he participated in athletics.
He graduated from M.C.I., where he received awards in English and mathematics. He attended the University of North Carolina.

Kris Sommer

Kristen (Kris) Phyrne Sommer, 49, died battling cancer on Sunday, May 25, 2003. A resident of New Gloucester, Kris was a devoted mother, a beloved daughter, a talented artist, an animal lover, a true friend, a world traveler, a mapmaker and a dedicated public servant.
Born in Los Angeles on September 26, 1953, to Lola and Philip Sommer.
In 1998, Kris moved to New Gloucester, where they finally had enough room for their growing animal family.
Kris also made room in her house and heart for teenagers in need of some motherly caring, family warmth or a hot meal. She called them her "lost children of the night."
She is survived by her mother Lola Sommer, daughter Jessica Sommer, her sister Kathryn Sommer, her adopted daughter Macala Marshall, two nieces and the many lost children of the night. She, also known as the Barn Fairy, will be missed by her animals.
She will also be missed by her family at GPCOG and friends throughout the region. Arrangements were under the care of Wilson Funeral Home, Gray, Maine, Harmon's was selected by the late Bob Elliott as a "Bob's Landmark" spot. He retired from the hamburger stand in 1985.
Marvin, a lifelong bachelor, is survived by; one sister, Jeannette Abbott of Moultonboro, NH; nephews, Damon Harmon of Cumberland, Paul Harmon of Gray, George Abbott, Arthur Abbott both of Moultonboro, NH; great niece; Lori Chason, Windham.
Arrangements were under the care of Wilson Funeral Home, LLC, 24 Shaker Road, Gray.
William Bernard Shelley, 83

William Bernard Shelley, 83, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at Brentwood Nursing Center.
Mr. Shelley was born December 28, 1919, in New York.
Mr. Shelley served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant during World War II, serving in the European Theater fighting in Italy, France and Germany. He was a New York Mets for five years. He was also a member of the Elks and the American Legion Post #86.
He was predeceased by his first wife of over 25 years, Lillian Gasparick Shelley. Mr. Shelley is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Joan Shelley of Gray. His children sons, William Shelley and Timothy Shelley of Gray, Daniel Shelley and Dennis Winthers of New York. He also leaves 16 fabulous grandchildren and one niece Doreen Sauerhoft.
Memorial donations may be made to Gray Rescue, 125 Shaker Road, Gray, Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born in Gray, a son of James W.B. and Sarah Hansen Pollard, and graduated from Pennell Institute in 1941, where he was a track and field star holding a state record in the 100 yard dash.
He married Mildred Doggett in 1949.
He enjoyed horse racing, gardening, singing in the church choir and hanging out at Cole Farms Restaurant with his buddies.
Mr. Pollard served aboard The USS Boston in the Pacific during World War II, After the war he was road commissioner of Gray, and then operated The Mobil Gas Station in Gray for many years. After retiring from Mobil he worked at Cole Farms Restaurant. He was a Past Commander and 28 year member of the American Legion, The Gray Post No. 86. He attended all ritualistic functions of the Post and entertained with his rendition of "Bill Bailey".
Surviving are his six children; Marie Pollard, Jeanne Pollard, Gregory Pollard, Ellen Frye, Natalie Manning and Mark Pollard; one brother, Philip Pollard; and four sisters, Geraldine Cose, Barbara Ryan, Jane Barton and Donna Hill; 10 grandchildren.
A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Gregory Church on Saturday, June 21, by Msgr. Lavoie and committal service was in Gray Cemetery. Arrangements were by Wilson Funeral Home, Gray.

Maria Sico

Maria Sico died on June 15, 2003.
Maria Ferrucci Sico was born in Brooklyn, New York.
The funeral was held at St. Gregory's on Wednesday, June 18, celebrated by Msg. Lavoie.
