Eben Dickinson dies

Eben Andrew Dickinson, Sr., 85, died peacefully Sunday, January 9, 2005.
He was born in Kenduskeag, Pennsylvania, for a period of 25 years, where he was employed by Pottstown Plating Works.
In 1978, Eben moved to Gray where he has resided for the past 27 years. Eben will fondly be remembered by all as the gentleman who happily pushed his grocery cart all about Gray Comer, running errands.
Eben was predeceased by his wife, Carrie Holmes Dickinson, and seven brothers and sisters.
Surviving are daughter, Trudy Dunton, of Hampden, daughter Diane Goode, of Georgia, and daughter Merilyn Leman of Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with congestive heart failure.
Gail was on the third floor and Dellbert was on the first floor. Once Dellbert made the decision to have all of his IVs removed, the nurses and his family arranged for him to be wheeled to the third floor for a final goodbye with his sister. With several members of their families and Rev. Linda Gard present, a final "I love you" passed between them, along with a kiss on the hand. Dellbert said, "We will see each other soon because we are gong to the same place."
In younger years, Gail was her little brother's babysitter, and often showed him the way. She led him home the following day.
Gail L. (Ray) Franzen, 88, of Yarmouth Road, Gray, died Friday, December 31, in the afternoon. She was born on February 21, 1916, the daughter of Oren E. and Estelle (Nelson) Ray. She graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1934, where she enjoyed Latin, literature and playing basketball.
She worked at the Mansion House in Poland Spring. She liked playing baseball after work, when the Mansion House team played against the Poland Spring Inn team.
She had several fond memories of living in Portland during the war years. During that time, she worked as a waitress at different establishments. Gail retired from the shoe industry in 1987.
In her younger years, she enjoyed flyfishing, going to the theater and nightclubs. Gail's favorite pastimes were driving, going to the movies, eating out and telling stories. She was meticulous about her appearance. She lived in California, Maine during her lifetime.
Gail was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Franzen. She is survived by her two sisters, Edition "Dolly" (Ray) Jordan, of Auburn, and Joan (Ray) McCarthy, of New Gloucester, and her brother, Donald Ray, Sr., also of New Gloucester. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Per her request, there will be no funeral or visiting hours. There will be a private burial in the spring.
Dellbert C. Ray, Sr., 77, of Minot, died December 31, in the evening, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Norway on March 13, 1927, the son of Oren E. and Edith J. (Walker) Ray. He spent most of his life in New Gloucester.
On June 7, 1945, he married Ruth Eriksen, and together they had nine children.
He served in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of World War II. He was the last living charter member of AMVETS Post 6.
On June 10, 1972, he married his loving wife, Mary L. Hotham Carr.
He worked for the Town of New Gloucester for many years before retirement. A few of his favorite things were spending time with his family and friends, keeping the lawn perfect, dancing, horseshoes and wrestling.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Mary, of Minot; his children, Andrea (Ray) Foster , and Stephen Ray, both of Poland, Eric Ray, Sr., and Gregory Ray, both of New Gloucester, Douglas Ray, Sr., of Maine Medical Center.
Eddie grew up in New Gloucester, graduating from Gray-New Gloucester High School in 1979. After three years in the Army, he worked and traveled the world. He had an infectious personality and was loved dearly by all who were blessed to know him.
On his farmhouse in Mechanic Falls, he worked with his animals, and spent time fixing up his farmhouse with his longtime buddy, Ken Sumner.
There are no words to say how much he will be missed by his mother, Edith Jordan, of Auburn, who he loved dearly. He is also survived by his sisters, Debra White and Kathy Pierce, both of New Gloucester; his brothers, Dean Jordan, of Poland, and Rick Jordan, of Casco; three nieces, Shona Gonsalves, Chasity White and Ashley Jordan; and a nephew, James Jordan.
He was predeceased by his dads, Bela Jordan, Sr., in the year 2000.
A gathering of remembrance and celebration will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 13, at Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray. Immediately following the remembrance period, there will be a party in Eddie's honor at the Amvets Hall, Lewiston Road, New Gloucester, from 5:30 to 8:30 P.M. A graveside service will be held in the spring.
David P. May II dies in accident

David Patrick May II died January 26 as a result of a crane and building collapse at the Fore River Shipyard in Braintree, Texas; a brother, Everett Libby and wife Dee, of Calais; three sisters, Marky Parkhurst, of Windham, Avis Smith, of Kentucky, and Tara Butts, of Texas.
Interment will be in Weber Cemetery, New Gloucester, in the spring.
Mr. Libby's family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Kevin Kimball and the boys.
