Erma Mitchell passes away
2005-04-22
Erma Mitchell, 77, of New Gloucester, died April 17, 2005 at Bolster Heights Nursing Home.
Born December 13, 1927, at Poland, Maine on June 27, 1930, the daughter of Sheldon S. and Winona Davis Grant. She attended the Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School, Class of 1947.
Lauris owned and operated her own beauty shop in Gray for several years before opening one in her home in Windham. She was employed by the Portland School System, including working as the executive secretary for the business manager.
She married her husband Carlton on October 20, 1984, and loved their large family and many friends. They enjoyed going to activities together at the American Legion Post # 86 in Gray, the Shriners, and the First Congregational Church of Gray. They particularly enjoyed their bus trips with Carlton's brother Bobby and his wife Cora. Lauris was a member of the Eastern Star for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and gardening.
Lauris was predeceased by her mother, father, and sister, Margaret Russo.
Surviving is her loving husband of twenty years, Carlton Skilling, of Gray, Carlton's daughters Carol West and her husband John, Cathy Grannell and her husband Steve, and Lori Skilling; sisters ;Beatrice Grant Crawford of Gray, and Sandra Grant Scruton and her husband John of Farmington, Maine 04039.
Patrick Sullivan dies in accident

Patrick J. Sullivan, 26, of Gray, passed away Saturday, April 16, as a result of a motorcycle accident.
He was born on November 13, 1978, in Laconia, NH, the son of Paul and Mary Ruhl Sullivan. He attended Gardiner Area High School, and graduated from Full Sail in Maine 04260, or Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, 15 Strawberry Ave., P.O. Box 819, Lewiston, Maine Medical Center.
She was born on January 2, 1949, in Gray, the daughter of Leslie, Sr., and Mavis Jordan, of New Gloucester. She attended Memorial School in New Gloucester, and graduated from Gray-New Gloucester High School in 1967.
Cheryl worked for many years for Cole Farms Restaurant as a waitress and for Unum Insurance for several years. She moved to Green ville, SC, to attend Bob Jones University and worked for 16 years in various offices for the University, most recently in the purchasing department.
Cheryl knew everyone and had many friends; they all loved her.
She loved all people, little children, all animals, her flower garden, and had a great love for cooking and collecting cookbooks. She loved coming home at Christmas just sto see the snow.
She was predeceased by her father, Leslie Peaco, Sr., and a sister, Donna Peaco.
She is survived by her mother, Mavis Peaco; a sister, Diane Peaco; three brothers, Lawrence Peaco and Wesley Peaco, both of New Gloucester, and Leslie Peaco, Jr., of Poland; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation and funeral were held last weekend at Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray. Committal services will be announced at a later date.

Paul D. Wheelden

Paul D. Wheelden, 67, of Gray, died Friday, April 22, at his home.
He was born in Portland on November 27, 1937, to Shirley A. and Marjorie Moore Wheelden. He attended South Portland Schools.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Daniels Floor Coverings for over 25 years, and later by Paul G. White. After retiring, he worked at Bushmaster Firearms in Windham.
Paul was an avid fisherman, who lived for his weeks at Rock Pond with his buddies. He also enjoyed reading, and traveling with his wife, Sheila. He spent many hours working on his home and on the land that he loved so much.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Wheelden Rinaca, and a brother, John Wheelden.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Sheila Pendle Wheelden, of Gray; a son, Timothy J. Wheelden and his wife Kara, of Auburn; stepsons Carl and his wife Angela Higgins, of Gray, and Christopher Higgins, of Auburn; a sister, Ruth Whelden Behl, of Florida; and grandchildren Bailey and Derek Wheelden and Nicole Rinaca.
A memorial visitation was held on Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to the Maine Parkinson Society, 5 Bucknam Road, Suite 1A, Falmouth, ME 04105.
