Frederick Loring passes away
2006-03-10
Frederick Hodsdon Loring, 87, of Gray, died February 28.
He was born in Pownal, the son of Roy and Florence Hodsdon Loring, and attended Pennell Institute. He graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1936.
On his first job of delivering grain, he met his wife of 43 years, Barbara Helen Fitts, of Stetson.
Freddy was known as a strong man who held 100-pound bags of grain on each shoulder. He had a great love of gardening, woodworking, cooking and maintaining his home of 58 years. He was known as the camera man at Cole Farms' Corner Seat, taking pictures at the counter.
In 1982, Mr. Loring retired from Crosby Laughlin after 40 years of dedicated quality-control service. His post-retirement job included working at Cole Farms making ice cream and Cole Farms Dressings. He also served on the School Board for several years.
Fred was very fond of his two Maine 04039.
Robert Wagner dies

Robert Luke Wagner, 28, a businessman and mortgage loan officer, died unexpectedly on February 15.
He resided in Gray with his wife, Natalia Lebedeva Wagner.
He was born in Orlando, Vermont.
He went on to attend the Artisans College for wooden-boat building in Rockport and the University of Southern Maine and in the Sawtooth Mountain Range in the Sierra Maine Central Railroad and retired after 44 years of work. He was a lifetime member of the Cumberland Lodge #12 in New Gloucester.
Throughout his life he enjoyed restoring cars, playing guitar, and boating on Sebago Lake with his family and friends. He also enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two sisters, Marylyn Tracey and Barbara Dziedzic, and one brother, Richard Young, all of Florida, died March 8.
She was the daughter of Priscilla E. Washburn Conley, of Gray, and the sister of Davene Dadiego and her husband Joe, also of Gray.
Mrs. Stewart is survived by her mother, her sister and her husband, Stanton Stewart, Jr.; a daughter, Ellen Grandy and husband William E. "Buddy" Grandy, Jr., of North Carolina. Memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 East Sunrise Drive, Tucson, AZ 85178
Robert Fiorentino passes away

Robert Domenic Fiorentino of New Gloucester, died unexpectedly in his home on March 15, 2006. The son of Dr. Domenic Fiorentino and Theresa Fiorentino of Marlborough Maine and dedicated over 30 years of his life to his work. Days before his death, Robert was honored with the 2006 Social Security Administration Commissioners Team Honor Award, a national recognition.
Robert met his wife, Jacqueline, while working as music director for the Boston Shakespeare Company. Until the end of his life, he was an active member of The Greater Portland Oldtimers Hockey League. He had a passion for music, theatre, hockey, cooking, and most importantly, for life.
Robert is survived by his mother Theresa, his wife Jacqueline, his children Francesca of Denver, CO, Domenica of Bearsville, NY, Anna of New Gloucester, and Alexander, a student at Princeton University, as well as his sister Carol, his brother Paul, and a wonderful array of family and friends.
Visiting hours were held on Friday, March 17, and Saturday, March 18, at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, Portland. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 18, at the First Congregational Church in New Gloucester.

Paul Taylor dies

Paul Ronald Taylor (Uncle Paul), 63, of Gray, died March 19 at a Portland Hospital.
He was born in Portland, the son of George and Gertrude Taylor, and graduated from Pennell Institute in 1961.
Mr. Taylor worked for Sears and Roebuck Co., Thomas Laughlin Co-Crosby Group, where he earned his Electrician's License under the direction of Albert Skilling, Nichols Portland, and the Portland Press Herald/Maine 04039, or the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
Pauline Ayer

Pauline Polly Ayer, 76, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, October 10, at New York, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Guglielma) Ferri.
Mrs. Ayers' family moved to Gray, where she was educated, graduating from Pennell in the Class of 1948.
She married Richard L. Ayer at the Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth on June 19, 1954. They lived in Fort Kent briefly before moving to Winthrop, where she worked for 33 years in the Winthrop High School Guidance Department.
Mrs. Ayer is survived by her husband, Richard, of Winthrop; her son and daughter, Michael Ayer and his wife Judith, of Waterville, and Susan (Ayer) Lamontagne and her daughter Jenna, also of Winthrop; her brother, Joseph Ferri and his wife Linda, of Gray; her twin sisters, Elizabeth McKeown, of Biddeford, and Annette Egbert, of Portland; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family chose to have a private funeral service.
