Danford Allen

Danford D. Allen, Sr., 52, died Friday, March 10, at Central Maine, the son of Clarence and Florence Cleveland Allen, he attended Walton High School in Auburn.
Mr. Allen-who preferred to be called Dan or Danny-liked to hunt and fish, and he was known for his sense of humor, his smile and the good word he had for everyone. He loved to trade with people, trading anything from cars to tools.
He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator, and was a member of Bible Believing Baptist Church, of Gray.
Mr. Allen was predeceased by one son, Danny D. Allen, Jr., in 1994. He is survived by his wife, Donna Merrill Allen, of Gray; one daughter, Dorene Allen Alcott, of Green eville, TN; one brother, Kenneth Allen, of Gray; one half-sister, Joyce Buck, of Winthrop; three half-brothers, Elmer F. Berry, of Green e, Roland Berry, of Minot, and John L. Berry, of Readfield; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at the Bible Believing Baptist Church, with Pastor Darwin Vail officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Donna Allen, 18 Hunts Hill Road, Gray.
Doris Chapman

Doris A. Chapman, of Gray, died March 14 after a brief illness.
She was born in Fort Monroe, VA, a daughter of Shirley Irwin and Ethel Hannah Thornton Chapman. She attended Gray schools, and graduated from Farmington Normal School.
Ms. Chapman taught in Gray, and then for 20 years at Portland High School. Her family said she was a dedicated teacher, always available to her students.
Her retirement hobbies were country dancing, reading, collecting cookbooks, playing practical jokes, visiting friends and enjoying her cat and horses.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, in Windham. She is survived by two cousins, Byron and James T. Adams.
Visiting hours will be from 7 to 9 P.M. on Friday, March 17, at Fahey-Forrest Funeral Home, 101 Pine Street, Lewiston. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
Edward William Rogers, 70

Edward William Rogers, 70, devoted family man, judge, sports enthusiast and summer resident of Gray, died March 25 at his home surrounded by his family.
Judge Rogers was born in Portland, Maine Law School in 1958. He practiced law in Portland from 1958 - 1977, served as Assistant DA for Cumberland County from 1969 - 1979 and on the Nevada and the American Academy of Judicial Education in 1985 with course concentration on Domestic Relations. Reappointed to the Judiciary by Governors Joseph Brennan and John McKernan, he soon became a favorite in Family Law, receiving the Maine. In May 1996, Judge Rogers received the President's Award and was inducted into the Maine.
He is survived by his devoted, caring wife of 42 years, Joyce; his four sons, Edward W. Jr. and Christopher G. of Falmouth; Stephen J. and Matthew J. of Portland; three daughters, Mary J. Labbe of Portland, Mrs. David (Andrea) Burton and Mrs. Brendan (Jennifer) Hickey of Falmouth; as well as 19 grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held Thursday at 10 A.M. at St. Patrick's Church, 1342 Congress St., Portland. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Michael Scott Conley

Michael Scott Conley, son of Priscilla and the late David R. Conley, of Gray, died on May 22, one day before his 50th birthday.
He died unexpectedly at his home in Westbrook.
Michael worked for SDW for 18 years. His first love was carpentry, his second was Harley Davidsons.
He is survived by 4 sisters: Davene Dadiego, of Gray; Janie Lynch, of Cumberland; Trudie McLellen, of Portland; and Gerrie Stewart, of NC; two daughters, Margaret Messinger, of Gray, and Elizabeth Cobb, of North New Portland; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at First Congregational Church of Gray, with the Rev. Douglas Hedstrom officiating. Burial will be in Gray Village Cemetery.
Daisy Doughty, 91

Daisy Doughty, 91, of Gray, died last Tuesday.
She was born in Woodland, ME, on August 31, 1908, the daughter of Chester and Sephronia Wilkins Trenholm. She had lived in Gray since 1964, moving here from Lynn, MA.
Mrs. Doughty was a member of the First Congregational Church of Gray, Gray Historical Society and the Gray Library. She taught ceramics for 40 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert W. Doughty, and her daughter, Marilyn F. Build. She is survived by one son, Albert W. Doughty, Jr., of Gray; a granddaughter, Susand Fleck, of Naples; and two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Jacob Fleck, of Naples.
A graveside service will be held at 9 A.M. on Saturday, July 8, in Gray Village Cemetery, with Pastor Douglas Hedstrom officiating.
