Stinson, Loretta

Loretta “Lori” Stinson, 49, of South Hope, wife of Walter, died unexpectedly on Sept. 28 at Washington; her three treasured grandchildren Rayven, Dylan and baby Evan; her only brother Howard Sukeforth of Hope; sisters, Cindy Billings and husband Jim of Liberty, Barbara Ludwig and husband Sonny of Union, Regina Kennard of Union, Rhoda Freeman and husband Frank of Belmont, Gwendolyn Braley and husband Karl of Washington; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be at the South Hope Community Church at 11 a.m. on Sat., Oct. 9. There will be a gathering at the Stinson’s home in Hope following the service.
Wills, Albert
Jan. 24, 1914 - Oct. 3, 2004
Albert Stanley Wills, 90, passed away, Oct. 3, at his home in Waldoboro.
Albert was born Jan. 24, 1914 in Oxford, the son of Albert and Addie Pike Wills. He attended school in Oxford. He was employed as a fireman in the woolen mills, Ohio.
He enjoyed railroading and gardening.
He was a member of the Advent Christian Church in Bridgton.
He was predeceased by his son, Clyde Stanley Wills in 1959; son-in-law, Roger J. Dever, Jr.; grandson, Michael T. Dever; daughter-in-law, Susan Wills, deceased wife of Harold Wills; and great-granddaughter, Miranda Hope Dever
He is survived by his wife, Etta M. Wheeler of Waldoboro; daughters, Barbara Jean Herrick and her husband, Arthur, of Groveland, Mass., Marilyn Ann Dever of Waldoboro; sons, Ronald Erwin Wills and his wife, Constance, of Woolwich, Harold Albert Wills and his wife, Shirley, of Green ; grandchildren, Kenneth Allen and Joyce Ellen Wills of Bath, Debra Delene Bellamy of Derry, N.H., John Jeffrey Wills of West Moreland, N.H. She graduated from high school in Portsmouth, California at Los Angeles where she met and married John Edward McCarty on Sept. 3, 1955.
They moved to Lawrence, Kan. in 1956 and had their first child in 1959. Later that year they moved to Mankato, Minn. where her husband began working as a chemistry professor. In 1962 their second child was born. Barbara spent many years making a wonderful, nurturing home and volunteering in the schools and community, as well as studying pottery.
In 1977, she worked as the Assistant Editor for the agricultural publication, “The Land”. She returned to school and received her B.A. in Chemistry from Minnesota at Waseca.
In 1987, John and Barbara sold their home in Mankato and purchased and restored an historic home in Waldoboro, which she named “Blue Skye Farm”. John continued teaching at Unity College in Unity and Barbara and her sister, Jane Philbrick, ran a flower business with extensive gardens. She and Jane did the flowers from design to delivery for many weddings, something they truly enjoyed. In 2000, Blue Skye Farm was sold and Barbara and John moved to Kittery and then for a time lived with her sister, Jane, in Newmarket, Maine and purchased a home in Brewer where John continued his love of gardening and Barbara continued painting watercolors.
Barbara was a member of the American Chemical Society; N.H.; brothers, Donald Merriman of Virginia Beach, Va. and Kurt Merriman of Springfield, Vt.; numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her sister Jean (Merriman) Williams.
Visitation from 4- 6 p.m., Fri., Oct. 8 at Hall & Davis Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Thomaston. A remembrance service will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Oct. 9 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Thomaston.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be establishing a memorial scholarship fund at N.Y., where she was a well known designer and antique dealer. She had started her career at the department store Sibley, Lindsey and Curr in the 1940’s and worked independently in the 50’s and 60’s within the Upstate and Western New York’s better dealers. She was responsible for the formation of the East Bloomfield Antique Show, which began in the early 60’s and is still a major event.
She left Rochester in 1964 to become an innkeeper in Wallingford, Vt. It was in the late 60’s that the well known mid-western home store, Gabborts of Minneapolis, Minn. employed her as one of their top designers. She designed for the former Vice President Hubert Humphrey and many major league baseball players.
Because of her love of New England she moved in 1977 to Chesterfield, New Hampshire where she served from the late 70’s through the 80’s. In 1990 she moved to Wiscasset and continued as a dealer in antiques.
Helen was known to her many friends for her love of cooking and her extreme devotion to animals, shown not only to her many sheep dogs, shitz su and cats but to her constant support of the Humane Society.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Alfred Burley in 1999.
She is survived by her many loving friends.
Graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Sun., Oct. 10, at Grover Cemetery in Woolwich.

Alley, Clifford L.
April 21, 1939 - Sept. 28, 2004
Clifford L. Alley, 65, of Pemaquid, died on the afternoon of Sept. 28, at Midcoast Hospital, Brunswick. Born in Damariscotta April 21, 1939, he was the son of the Lewis Stanley and Emma (Turner) Alley, Sr. Cliff graduated from South Bristol High School, where he and his family lived.
A fisherman most all of his life, he also had a strong passion for NASCAR. For many winters, he and his partner, Sharon Blanchard enjoyed their home in Daytona Beach and spending summers in Pemaquid. Of late, Cliff had become known as "Lawn Mower Man", by his friends, due to his love for mowing and tractors. He also had taken up painting, in recent years, enjoying both watercolor and oils and was well known for his sense of humor to all.
His parents, as well as his brother, PFC, Lewis Stanley Alley, Jr., in WWII and a sister Esther Chapman, predeceased him.
Cliff leaves his life partner, Sharon, of Pemaquid and Daytona Beach; four daughters, Amelia "Liz" Lindsey of Sanford, Kimberly Alley of Pittston, Britt Alley and her companion Russ Kotow, Jr., of Hallowell, Taylor Alley of Pittston; his sister Elizabeth House of Walpole; and three grandchildren, Rebecca and Jacqueline Giles and Danielle Kotow.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Sat., Oct. 2, at the Chapel of the Strong Funeral Home, Damariscotta, with Rick Newell officiating. He will be laid to rest, with his parents, at the West Bristol Cemetery, Walpole.

Maguire, Daniel
Aug. 3, 1941 - Oct. 2, 2004
Daniel “Duffy” Maguire, 63, of Whitefield, died suddenly Oct. 2 at his home. He was born in Farmington on Aug. 3, 1941, a son of Edward “Mickey” and Elizabeth Fournier Maguire.
While growing up in Farmington, “Duffy” could be found working at his dad’s variety store, delivering newspapers, skiing at Titcomb Mt. or playing whatever sport was in season. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1959.
After graduating he attended St. Francis Xavier College in Canada for two years, where he was a member of the football team. He transferred to Farmington State Teachers College and left to serve in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
While in the Air Force Duffy married his wife of 40 years Gail Marble in 1964. After serving his country he returned to Farmington State Teachers College graduating in 1968. His first teaching position was at Erskine Academy in South China. He also taught in Benton, Damariscotta, Bristol, Bremen and the last 15 years in Jefferson.
He was a loving husband, caring father, grandfather and dedicated educator.
He was predeceased by his brother, Gregory Maguire in 1995 and a sister Patricia K. Maguire in 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Marble Maguire of Whitefield; sons, Shawn Maguire and his wife Helena of Georgetown, Mass., Brandon Maguire and his wife Rebecca (with child) of Taipei, Taiwan, Riley Maguire of Shanghi, China; his daughter, Mandy T. Maguire of Albany, Washington State, Barry Maguire and his wife Lynn of Wilton; sister-in-law, Bonnie Maguire of Searsmont; grandchildren, David Daniel Maguire, Olivia Maguire, Connor Maguire and Aidan Maguire and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours Tues., Oct. 5, 7-9 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial celebrated Wed., Oct 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Augusta.

Cummings, Myron
Nov. 25, 1923 - Oct. 5, 2004
Myron C. “Dud” Cummings, 80, of Walpole, died at his home, early on the morning of Oct. 5. The son of Donald and Marjorie (Crockett) Cummings, he was born in Rockland, Nov. 25, 1923.
Attending early schools in Rockland he was graduated from Rockland High, in the Class of 1942. Shortly after he entered the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Fourth Marine Division in the Pacific during WWII. He served in Iwo Jima, Saipan, Tinian and finally Roi Numor and was discharged in 1945. Myron went on to earn his degree in Applied Embalming and Funeral Service, from the McAllister Institute, in Maine and as a licensed pilot loved owning and operating his private plane.
Myron leaves his loving wife Veronia, of 58 years, of Walpole; his children, Lynda Estabrook and her husband Glenn of Walpole, Bruce Cummings and his wife Karen of Bristol; and three grandchildren, Jeffrey Lovejoy of Horbach, Germany, Caitlin Cummings and Mitchell Cummings, both of Bristol.
Friends are invited to join the family, 4-6 p.m. Wed., Oct. 6 at the Strong Funeral Home, where his service will be 2 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 7. He will be laid to rest at the West Bristol Cemetery, Walpole.

Hart, Julia
Nov. 4, 1923 - Sept. 29, 2004
Julia E. Hart, 80, of Wiscasset, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 29, at her home.
She was born Nov. 4, 1923 in Augusta, a daughter of Maynard H. and Julia E. (Larabee) Gilley, Sr.
Mrs. Hart graduated from Cony High School. She loved helping people and making them smile. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. She was also a very proud ancestor to John Gilley.
Mrs. Hart is survived by a brother, Ralph Gilley; a son, Maine Cremation & Funeral Service, in Waldoboro.

Johnson, Lillie
Nov. 18, 1925 - Oct. 4, 2004
Lillie L. Johnson, 78, of Saco, died at her daughter’s home in Londonderry, N.H. where she lived until 1994.
She later married Walter Wood, where they resided in Belfast for several years. She collected both porcelain and antique dolls, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 40 years.
She is survived by four children, Richard Johnson of Kingston, N.H.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at the Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta on Fri., Oct. 8 from 2-5 p.m. Graveside service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery in Damariscotta, on Sat., Oct. 9 at 11 a.m.

Grover, Judith
Jan. 9, 1942 - Oct. 5, 2004
Judith A. Grover, 62, of Windsor, died the morning of Oct. 5 at Florida. She will be greatly missed by her special cats whom she loved very much, Sammy and Punky. In addition to her husband of more than 24 years, Judy is survived by a son, Jeffrey D. Campbell of Newcastle; three grandchildren, Caryn Embry of Damariscotta, Justin and Josh Campbell of Newcastle; a great-granddaughter, Emily Embry of Damariscotta; two brothers, Talbot W. Campbell and his wife Rosemary of Newcastle, Neiland N. Campbell and his wife Lynne of Newcastle; a sister, Marcia M. Hall and her husband Colin of Newcastle; many nieces and nephews; special friends Cheryle and Jim Cunningham of Edgecomb, Ronnie and Thelma House of South Bristol, George and Jo Hart of Newcastle, and Sheri Pitcher of Nobleboro. A memorial service will be announced later at the convenience of her family. Church, Tracy

Tracy R. Church, 56, of Petersburg, Mich., son-in-law of Norman and Barbara Hamlin of Brunswick and Christmas Cove, died Aug. 30, after an extended battle with pneumonia contracted after a June kidney transplant.
Tracy married Jennifer Hamlin in July 1990 at the Harrington Meeting House in Pemaquid. The wedding celebration, which included a lobster bake in Christmas Cove and a square dance in Edgecomb, was the first of many visits the married couple made to Ohio, designing and building transmission test equipment and custom hydraulic machinery. He also taught hydraulics at Monroe County (Mich.) Community College.
Earlier in his life, Tracy also raced motorcycles professionally, competing in half-mile races throughout the midwest in the 1970s.
A great fan of education who never stopped learning, Tracy graduated magna cum laude from Siena Heights University (Adrian, Mich.) in 1993. In a lifetime of voracious reading, he developed particular interests in history, philosophy, engineering and Russian literature.
Tracy was an enthusiastic proponent of organ donation, having benefited from the gifts of two kidney transplants (1989 and 2004) and a pancreas transplant (1998).
Tracy and his family appreciate the prayers and support extended to him from many in the Brunswick and Christmas Cove communities over the past few years, as he confronted numerous medical challenges, most of them long-term side effects of Type I (juvenile) diabetes he developed 43 years ago.
Tracy will be deeply missed by his wife, Jennifer; his three daughters; seven grandchildren, as well as Norman and Barbara Hamlin and their extended family.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Siena Heights University or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
French, Wendy

Wendy J. French, 35, of Augusta, died the afternoon of Oct. 10 at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington.
She was born July 23, 1969 in Augusta, a daughter of Paul W. French and the late Nancy L. Jackson.
Wendy attended Augusta area schools and was a collector of eagles and models of Harley Davidson Motorcycles. She will be greatly missed by her pet dog, Nosey.
In addition to her father and his wife Doreen of Augusta, Wendy is survived by a special friend, Gail Urquhart of Salem; adoptive parents, Neil and Barbara Harvey of Waldoboro; sisters, Michelle Minoty of Whitefield, Lynn St. Amand of Old Town, Tammy Morton of Somerville, Theresa Morrin of Whitefield, Becky Collyer of Waldoboro, Tina Sirois of Vassalboro; grandmother, Barbara Moody of Chelsea; aunts, Gloria Hill of Somerville, Mary Ferguson of Windsor, Evelyn French of Somerville, Carol Robinson of Chelsea; uncle, David Mills of Gardiner; and special nephews, Matthew Smith and Dana Arnold of Old Town.
Graveside service at 2 p.m. on the afternoon of Thurs., Oct. 21 in the Fairview Cemetery, Farmington.

Brann, Scott
June 11, 1972 - Oct. 13, 2004
Scott Allen Brann, 32, died Oct. 13 at his home in Bremen.
Scott was born June 11, 1972 in Augusta, a son of David and Lucille Murray Brann.
Scott was a devoted son to his mother, with whom he shared a special relationship. He loved his children, Nicole and Joey with a passion. They always brought him joy and made his face light up when he saw them. He loved his sister, Michelle and missed his beloved brother, Dwayne.
Scott was a wonderful, smiling, caring person whose smile warmed everyone’s heart.
An avid Elvis fan, he loved watching Elvis movies and listening to Elvis sing.
One of his favorite past times was playing the guitar and singing; he also loved doing impressions of famous people like John Wayne, Don Knotts and, of course, Elvis.
He will be dearly missed by Jolynn, Nicole and Stacy.
Scott is predeceased by his brother, Dwayne Brann and stepfather, Burton Carter.
Survivors include his daughter, Nicole Brann of Waldoboro; son, Joseph Brann of Waldoboro; mother, Lucille Murray Georgia, Laurie Black of Friendship, Daniel Davis and his wife, Jean, of Friendship, Reabena Hackett of Bangor, Ethan Davis Hackett of Newark, Seth and Shawn Morrissette of East Vasselboro; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Betheo Davis, of Waldoboro; a special sister; cousin, Kathleen White, of Barnstable, Mass.; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins.
Graveside service held at 1:30 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 21 at the Harbor Cemetery in Friendship, with Rev. Betty Bilodeau officiating.
