Leo Paul Desmarais, Sr.
Leo Paul Desmarais, Sr., 86, of Biddeford, died Jan. 13 at St. Andre’s Health Care Facility after a long illness.
He was born in Biddeford on Jan. 26, 1919, a son of Arthur and Melina Petrin Desmarais, and was educated in Biddeford Schools.
He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
On Feb. 14, 1942 he married Florence Miclette in St. Ignatius Church in Sanford. She died April 15, 1992.
He was an electrician for a few years, then worked 30 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1978.
As a young man he boxed under the name of "Kid Paul" for 10 years.
A son, Leo Paul Desmarais Jr., died in 1994. Six sisters and one brother also died previously.
Surviving are one son, Ronald R. Desmarais and his wife Muriel of Biddeford; one brother, Arthur Desmarais of Biddeford; one sister, Pat Mooers and her husband Dennis of Lyman; and two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, 04005.
Robert L. Collette
Robert L. Collette, 79, of Biddeford, died Jan. 16 at Southern Maine Medical Center for three years and was a member of St. Andre’s Church.
Surviving are his wife, Laura Filgate Charland of Hollis Center; his parents of Biddeford; two sisters, Lisa Marie Johnson and her husband Tom of Kennebunk and Michelle Pease and her husband Blake of Wells; and two nieces, three nephews and several aunts and uncles.
Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, 04005. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Animal Welfare Society, Inc., P. O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, 04094.
Edmond G. Morand
Edmond G. Morand, 91, of Biddeford, died Jan. 17 in Townsend, Mass., at the home of his son.
He was born April 10, 1914 in Fitchburg, Mass., the son of Arthur and Loza Lattinville Morand, was educated there and graduated from Brown High School in Fitchburg.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Jan. 2, 1942, he married Irene Caouette at St. Joseph’s Church. She died April 22, 2005.
He was employed by the Saco-Lowell Shops in Biddeford for five years and for 30 years at the Ed Delorge Baking Co., retiring in 1976.
Surviving are two sons, Philip J. Morand of Townsend, Mass. and Dennis J. Morand of Camden; three grandchildren, Alyssa, Christopher and Emily; one brother, Eugene Morand of Brewster, Mass.; two sisters, Irene Ellis of Fitchburg, Mass. and Cecile Berube of Arcadia, Maine Medical Center.
Two brothers, Charles Dinan and Robert McDowell, a sister Alice, and her husband Al Allen all died previously.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years Thomas J. Dupuis; one son, Thomas L. Dupuis of Old Orchard Beach; one daughter, Sheila and her husband Archie St. Hilaire of Saco; one brother, Francis and his wife Lauretta Dinan of Osteen, Fla.; one sister, Ellen and her husband Clyde Goldthwaite of Virginia Beach, Va.; and three grandchildren, Tommy, Mason and Breanna.

Howard Edwards
Howard Edwards, 25, of Standish, died Jan. 20 at Maine Tom Cats.
Surviving are his wife of Standish; one son, Aundrew J. Edwards of Standish; his mother, Pauline Usher of Saco; his father, Howard Byrd of Texas; four sisters, Irene Edwards of Texas and Sharon Edwards and Susan Edwards, both of Tampa, Fla.; his maternal grandmother, Irene Nolette of Biddeford; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, 04005. Austin Jon LaCourse
Austin Jon LaCourse, infant son of Dale and Darcy LaCourse, was born and died at Southern Connecticut and was employed at Hamilton Standard; while in Maine in 1967, she was employed as a blueprinter at Fairchild Semiconductor in South Portland.
She was a member of St. Andre’s Church and the Daughters of Isabella and a past member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and the Council of Saint Theresa.
A son, Roger Vermette, and her brothers, Leo and Rene Ouellette, died previously.
She leaves behind two sons, Normand Vermette and his wife Paula of Biddeford and Maurice Vermette and his wife Elaine of Hampstead, N.H.; one daughter-in-law, Hisako “Terry” Vermette of Fayetteville, N.C.; one brother, Raymond Ouellette of Old Orchard Beach; one sister, Rita Mooney of South Portland; and 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Arlene Simard
Arlene Simard, 78, of Western Avenue in Biddeford, died April 25 at Southern Maine, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330.
