JOHN CARR
MATTAWAMKEAG - John Carr, 85, husband of Margaret (Lezotte) Carr, died May 8, 2004 at a Lincoln healthcare facility. He was born, July 10, 1918, in Danforth, the son of Ellis William and Edith Pearl (Cochran) Carr. John was a U S Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic- Pacific Theater, and was a life member of V F W Post #7409, Mattawamkeag. He worked for the Thompson of Florida where she went to Sea World and met Jack Hanna.
She is survived by her son, Joseph McKinney of Newburyport, Mass., a grandson, Dwaine McKinney-Turner of Bangor, a brother, Chester Charette of Fryeburg, two sisters, Joy Pepin and Rosanne Weymouth both of Millinocket, a special nephew, Daren Harvey and his family of Pittsfield, a special friend, Cathleen Flanagan of Millinocket, and special friends, Ma and Dad Madore of Millinocket, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents in 1968 and a sister, Candy Harvey in 1993.
There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, at the Millinocket Cemetery, with the Rev. Herschel Hafford officiating. Friends and family are invited to I CARE Ministries after the service. FRANKLIN CARL CLOUKEY
WEST ENFIELD - Franklin Carl Cloukey, 67, beloved husband of Ederle (Ludden) Cloukey, died peacefully at EMMC, Monday, May 24, 2004, lovingly surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with aplastic anemia. Carl was born January 6, 1937 in West Enfield, ME the son of Frank and Pearle (McKenney) Cloukey.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ederle (Ludden) Cloukey of West Enfield; one son, Timothy Cloukey and his wife Patty of West Enfield; two daughters, Carlene Cloukey of Bangor; and Jill Smith and her husband Eric of Howland; four grandsons, TJ Cloukey, Travis Cloukey and his fiancée Alicia Drost, Justin Cloukey and his girlfriend Jessica Young, and Kevin Levesque; two granddaughters, Jessica Simon, and Krystal Levesque and her boyfriend TJ Tracy; one sister, Dallas Nash and her husband Clifford of West Enfield; his mother-in-law, Lucy Ludden of West Enfield; a brother-in-law, Dalton Ludden and his wife Edwina of Howland; A special cousin, Wayne Clukey and his wife Ethel Clukey; nieces and nephews; and his loyal and faithful dog, Rocky. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother; Francis Clukey, and his father-in-law Edmund Ludden.
Carl graduated from Howland High School in 1955 after which he attended Husson College. In 1957 he joined the U.S. Army and served his country for 2 years. As a member of both the Board of Directors for the town of Enfield and the MSAD #31 School Board, Carl was always very active in community affairs. He was extremely proud of his work and very dedicated to his job. Carl owned and operated Carl’s Auto Parts for twelve years after managing Darling’s Inc., for over 25 years. He looked forward to each day and greeted every person with a bright smile on his face. Carl’s smile could certainly light up a room. He was an avid NASCAR fan and his favorite driver was #18 Bobby Labonte. He loved sports and enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren’s athletic events. Family barbeques and trips to his camp in Grand Falls were also among his favorite activities. He recently converted to Catholicism and was very devoted to his faith. He was a communicant of St. Leo’s Catholic Church. His family was the single most important thing to him. Carl always gave unconditional love, support, and guidance to his family and friends and for this we are eternally grateful.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Howland, with Fr. Andre Houle, OMI officiating. Interment will be held immediately following at the West Enfield Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Carl’s name to Cancer Care of California, Doris Coon of Medway, and Eva and husband Harry Mundell of Thompson and Geraldine Stanley.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday, March 11, 2004 at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday at the funeral home with lay minister Billie Farrington officiating. Spring intermenty will be at Grindstone Road Cemetery, Medway. SHIRLEY ETTA (FOGG) CROCKER
LEE-Shirley Etta (Fogg) Crocker, 69, wife of Searle V. Crocker, went home to be with the Lord, May 1, 2004 at a Lincoln hospital, while surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Winn, June 10, 1934, the daughter of Everett and Florence (Priest) Fogg. Shirley graduated from Lee Academy in 1951. She worked as a waitress for many years. She enjoyed quilting but her passion was shopping. She attended the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Lee and loved the Lord with all her heart.
In addition to her loving husband of 17 years, Searle Crocker, she is survived by her special children, Robert Wyman, Jr., and his partner, Mary, Sherry Peters and her husband Dwight, Craig Wyman and his wife Bonnie, Gretchen Wyman, Tammy Grant and her husband Joe, Jennifer Michaud and her husband Steve, Judiann Drake and her husband Frank and Gina Gary and her husband Scott; step-children, Debbie and Skip Grass, Rachel and Bobby Arnold, Danny and Christina Crocker and Danny and Sandy Boobar; brothers Everett Fogg and his wife Mary and Richard Fogg and his wife Arlene; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by twin brother and sister, Roger and Little Alice, sister Clara and daughter, Elaine Shirley.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the C M A Church with the Rev. Vince Hartford officiating. Interment will be in Potter Brook Cemetery, Winn. There will be a reception at the church after the interment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the C M A Church food cupboard. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
MERLE E. "FRED" CROPLEY
WESTON- Merle E. "Fred" Cropley, 67, husband of Una (Lee) Cropley, died March 27, 2004 at a Houlton healthcare facility. He was born April 8, 1936 in Danforth, the son of Wesley "Ben" and Geneva (Young) Cropley. Mr. Cropley worked in the woods industry, enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the Red Sox. He was a U S Army veteran.
In addition to his wife, Una, he is survived by his children, Paula and her husband Maurice McLaughlin of Stafford Springs, CT, Trudy and her husband Chuck Johnson of Poughkeepsie, NY, Dawn and her husband Dwayne Young of Weston, ME, Sandra Cropley of Bangor, Amber and her husband Dave Brown of Manchester, CT, Wesley and his wife Deborah Cropley of Stafford Springs, CT, and Teresa Cropley of Danforth, sisters, Violet and Judd Frye of Danforth, Barbara Cropley of Houlton, Glenna and John Crone of Danforth, Anita Barnes of Danforth, Veronica and Robert Crone of Danforth, Sheila and Arnold Estabrook of Amity; brothers, Franklin and Margeret Cropley of Braintree MA, James and Glenna Cropley of Danforth; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Alvie "Tommy" Young and Glenn Cropley; and a sister Marie Krautler.

ERIC C. DAUB, M.D.
LINCOLN - Eric C. Daub, M.D., age 37, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, in Lincoln, California, the son of Jean and Leland Daub. Dr. Daub earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology at the University of California, in 1990, where he met his wife Elisabeth. After graduating from N.Y. in 1995, Dr. Daub completed his internship and residency training at Central Washington in 1998. He served as a staff physician at Mt. Home Air Force Base in Idaho from 1998 to 2000 and also at Hanscom Air Force Base in Maine 04457.
DEXTER "DUSTY" STEPHEN DAY
WOODVILLE-Dexter "Dusty" Stephen Day, 56, died May 11, 2004 at a Lincoln hospital. He was born Oct. 22, 1947, in Millinocket, the son of Harold and Linnette (Fogg) Day. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, from 1968 to 1974, and received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and One Overseas Bar. Dusty enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his fiancée, Cindy Parent, his daughters, Linnette Gilbert, Kim Murray, Stephine McPherson, Michelle McPherson and Christina Day; three grandchildren, Natasha Gilbert, Matthew Gilbert and Rebecca Murray; Cindy's Children, Justin Taylor, Corinna Taylor and Jack Pankake; brothers, Harold Day, Richard Day, Dale Day and Dana Day; sisters, Dorothy White, Elizabeth Pond, Kay Potvin, Janice McPheters and Penny White; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Reginald P. Day.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Regginal Adams officiating. FRED R. DINGLEY
LEE - Fred Raymond Dingley, 95, died April 9, 2004 at a Lincoln hospital. He was born in South Portland, Maine. Fred attended South Portland schools, graduating from South Portland High School in 1926. and received the following degrees: Bates College, AB cum laude, 1930; MA in 1937.Ricker College, Dr. Pedagogy (Hon) 1963 Bowdoin College, Dr. Humane Letters (Hon) 1968.
He married Margaret Lancaster, of Lincoln, 1931 (deceased 1957) and Madeline Lancaster, of Lincoln in 1964. He held education positions as follows; Teacher, Lisbon High School, 1930; Teacher, Sabattus High School, 1931-34; Principal, Winn High School, 1935-41; Principal, Carmel High School, 1942-43; Principal, Mattawamkeag High School, 1944; Submaster and Guidance Director, Stearns High School, Millinocket, 1945; Submaster and teacher, Lee Academy, 1946-52; Principal, 1952-1971. He was a member of Elm Street Methodist Church (South Portland); Poetry Fellowship of Maine State Grange; College Club, Bates College; State Principals Association; PTA -- Life Member; Maine Association of Independent School; Maine). Member 1950-1961. Vice Chairman1958-59; Chairman 1960-61. Degree of Honorary State Farmer (1965) from the Future Farmers of America.; He was Moderator of the Town of Lee, 1948-1981.; Trustee of Husson College, 1965-1981 & recipient of the President's Award for Distinguished Service, 1982; Trustee (Hon) of Lee Academy, 1971 to date. Director of Hospital Administrative District # 1, (representing the Town of Lee), 1973-1980 & recipient of Distinguish Service Award, 1981; Member of 4-county Advisory Committee, Dept. of Health and Welfare, 1973-1977 (Chairman 1976-77.) Mr. Dingley published two books of poetry, "600 Acres" in 1980 and "Eyes to See" in 1986. He was the major author and historian in charge of preparation for the book "History of a Frontier School - Lee Academy - 1845 - 1988." Mr. Dingley was a well known contributor to "Letters to the Editor." He served as a supply pastor to various churches and was a speaker and illustrative lecturer.
In addition to his wife, Madeline, he is survived by two nephews and a niece, Stanley E. Flink of Barre, VT, Fred C. Dingley and Paulette Dingley, both of Lewiston; grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Lincoln Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Young officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Margaret Dingley Fund at Lee Academy, the Lee Academy Alumni Fund; or the Fred R. Dingley Husson College Scholarship. H. LYNN DRAKE
HOWLAND - H. Lynn Drake, 85, husband of Connie B. (Threlkeld) Drake, died June 7, 2004 at a Lincoln hospital. He was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Carroll, the son of George C. and Rossie (Aldrich) Drake. Lynn was a U S Army Veteran of World War II, where he served in France and Germany and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He was self-employed during his working years. He raised bees and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, baseball and baking bean-hole-beans for the Masons. He was a 50 year member of Composite Lodge # 168 AF & AM of LaGrange.
In addition to his wife of 60 years (they were married June 14, 1944), Connie, he is survived by three daughters, Sheila Jones and her fiancé, Dennis Rhinehart of Middleburg, Florida; and Stanley Mott, Jr., of Chester; two sisters, Barbara Powers of East Millinocket; and Greta Littlefield and her companion, Ivan Wakefield of Lowell; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She also leaves special friends, Tuffy and Donna Tash; Jeannie Harris; and Rudolph Raymond & Merlyne.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the West Enfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Andre Houle officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln.
ROSEMARIE (COFFIN) DYER
Lee - Rosemarie (Coffin) Dyer died July 4, 2004 at a Bangor hospital. Born in Lincoln, March 26, 1952, she was the daughter of Myra Dobson and the late Clifton Coffin. Rosemarie loved her dogs, gardening, hunting, fishing, and arts & crafts.
In addition to her mother, her survivors include her daughter Julieann and husband Matthew Babb; four sisters, Kathy Dill and husband Darrell; Anna Brawn and husband Jim; Della Porter and husband Joseph; Wilma Gilmore and husband George; two grandchildren, Corey McLaughlin and Stephanie Babb; several nieces, nephews, and a lot of friends. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her brother, Stanley Coffin.
A memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lee Saturday, July 10, at 2 p.m., followed by a gathering at Joseph and Della Porter's house in Lee. MARTIN JOHN ELWARD
MATTAWAMKEAG - Martin John Elward, "John," 82, husband of Barbara M. Elward, passed away peacefully, April 14, 2004 at a Lincoln hospital. He was born March 13, 1922 in Rockwood where he grew up and sailed his little wood boats under the shadow of Mt. Kineo as a child. He was always fascinated with engines, locomotives, Lombard Log Haulers and one-lungers.
He and Barbara were married on April 9, 1943, and just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary together. He worked as an apprentice at Fayscott Landis in Dexter where he made his home with Barbara. He retired from Great Northern Paper Company in 1984 where he last worked as a shop foreman for maintenance. John loved to farm and be outdoors. He was observant of wildlife and nature. He and Barbara were known for their large gardens which they planted one third for the deer, one third for friends and neighbors, and one third for their family. John loved reading and was a vast store of knowledge. He was a member of Pine Tree Lodge AF & AM of Mattawamkeag.
A compassionate man, he will be missed by his loving wife, Barbara; his children, John Elward and Linda of Medway, Richard Elward and Penny of Mattawamkeag, Deborah King and Dennis of Orono. four grandchildren, John Elward, Rachel Elward, Ryan King, and Benjamin King; two great-grandchildren, Jeffery Elward and Katherine King; siblings, Fern Moulton and Franklin of Guilford, Roger Richards and Hazel of Shirley, Elizabeth Flanagan of Bangor, Sr. Josephine Flanagan of Portland, Tom Flanagan of Enfield Conn, and Kathy Tekancic of Euclid North Carolina, four sisters, Alma Crocker of Lincoln, Harriet Hesseltine of Passadumkeag, Jackie Hatch of Enfield and Clydie Batchelder of Enfield, 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and three brothers, Henry Rollins, Anthony Rollins and Orison Rollins and one sister, Joyce Osborne.
Family and friends may call at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln on Friday at 9 a.m. until time of departure for the cemetery. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Enfield Village Cemetery, with the Rev. Chet Dana officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Maine.
