GRATIEN JOSEPH PELLETIER
PASSADUMKEAG- Gratien Joseph Pelletier, 86, husband of the late Marguerite (Cote) Pelletier, passed away July 10, 2004 at a Lincoln nursing home. He was born Jan. 31, 1918, in St. Paul-de- la-Croix, Quebec, Canada, the son of Jean-Baptiste and Elise (Thibeault) Pelletier. Mr Pelletier lived in Quebec many years, where he was a postmaster, and a rural mail carrier. He led the church choir and was a church usher. He owned and operated the school bus, was county tax collector for the parish and school administration secretary. He then moved to Lawrence, Mass, where he continued to be active in the church and was a positive influence throughout. In the last few years of his life, he lived with his daughter Huguette and son-in-law Gaston L'Italien in Passadumkeag, Maine and Pierrette Gracia and her husband Astacio of Lawrence, MA; two sisters, Simone Charron of St. Hubert, P.Q., and Monique Dion and her husband, Emile of Quebec City; a daughter in law, Gaetane Pelletier of Lawrence, Mass.; 16 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marguerite (Cote) Pelletier; two sons, Onil Pelletier and Jean Guy Pelletier; three sisters, Annette, Gabrielle and Marie Anna; six brothers, Elie, Rosaire, Oscar, Benoit, Tobie and Hermel.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Monday, July 12, 2004 at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Howland, with the Rev. Andre Houle presiding. A graveside service will be in St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence, MA. On Wednesday, July 14, 2004. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to CHCS Home Care and Hospice. Donations may be sent to the funeral home.
MARGARET P. PORTER
LINCOLN - Margaret (Plouffe) Porter, 82, wife of the late Willard Porter, died at her home on June 15, 2004. She was born in Winn June 1, 1922, the daughter of Albert and Phoebe (Michaud) Plouffe.
Margaret loved gardening, her cats, NASCAR and country music, especially Waylon Jennings who was her favorite.
She is survived by her children, Joseph and his wife Della of Lee, John and Mark both of Lincoln, and Marie of Virginia, five grandchildren, Laurie Ann, Joseph, Jr., Arther, Brenda and Myra, and eleven great grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Lowell Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Cyr officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family, donations may be left at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, ME 04457.
CLIVE ROLLINS
REED PLT - Clive E. Rollins, 102, husband of Minnie (Brittain) Rollins, died May 9, 2004, at a Lincoln healthcare facility. He was born Dec. 20, 1901, in Reed Plt., the son of Frank and Harriet (Hewey) Rollins. Clive spent most of his life working in the woods near his home-town, including working with his sons. He served on Reed's Board of Assessors for 51 years, spending two thirds of that time as first assessor. He also spent some time supervising some prison work crews during World War II and spent some time working at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone. When he reached his 100th birthday, he received a plaque, honoring both his milestone birthday and his many years of service to Reed. He and Minnie made five cross country trips visiting relatives over the years. They spent some time in Mexico. After he retired, they spent 13 winters in Maine. He and Minnie then ended up working for five years at Dale Wheaton's camps on East Grand Lake.
In addition to his wife, Minnie, he is survived by four daughters, Gloria Deering and Phyllis Keller, both of South Carolina and Carolyn and her husband, Emile Caouette of Parker and Delia Margaret (Rand) Savage. He attended Dixfield schools, graduating in 1930 at the age of 15, and then attended Kent's Hill School. Ken excelled as a scholar and an athlete, playing baseball, football and ice hockey. He also played in the short-lived roller skate basketball league, in western Maine. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, holding a Nevada; 26 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Turner, a son, Ronald Severance, Sr., two brothers, Paul Rideout and Searle Rideout; and a sister, Vivian Vance.

PHYLLIS (HOLLISTER) STERLING SHAY
EATON - Phyllis (Hollister) Sterling Shay, 82, went to be with her Lord April 18, 2004, at a Houlton health care facility. She was born June 11, 1921, in Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, Conn., the daughter of Charles W. and Virginia (Loomis) Hollister. She was a graduate of Manchester (Conn) High School, Hartford Art School and the Rhode Island School of Design. Phyllis worked as a textile designer for two years for Cheney Bros., and as a TEC Illustrator for 25 years for Pratt & Whitney. She was married to Joe A. Sterling for 39 years and they moved to Calif., a sister-in-law, Joan Hollister of Manchester, Conn.; two sons, Peter Shay and Larry Shay, both of Eaton,; two daughters, Joan Shuttleworth of Manchester, Conn, and a very special, loving daughter who was there to meet Phyllis' every need, Linda Russell of Brookton; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her first husband, Joseph, she was predeceased by a brother, Charles W. Hollister, Jr. and a sister, Shirley M. Ostie.

LARRY DAVID SHOREY
ORONO and LINCOLN - Larry David Shorey, 55, died June 11, 2004, at Treats Falls House in Orono after a short illness. He was born July 27, 1948, in Lincoln, the son of Floyd and Louise (Orcutt) Shorey. Larry was a great lover of country music and enjoyed going to musical events whenever he could. He especially loved all the great people at Treats Falls House, who gave him care, love and devotion for many years.
Surviving members of the family are two brothers and two sisters, Greg Shorey of Lowell, Leslie Jones of Lincoln, Ronda Harriman of Lowell and Linda Chattin of Needville, Michigan, and Shirlie and her husband Ralph Rollman of Hampden; several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. He also leaves special friends, Tinker and Phyllis Dennison of Wesley. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mardie Sinclair.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Longfellow Cemetery, Machias, with the Rev. George Henderson officiating. KENNETH L. SKIDGELL
MATTAWAMKEAG- Kenneth L. Skidgell, 74, died May 3, 2004 at a Lincoln hospital. He was born in Abbot, March 27, 1930, the son of Benjamin and Margaret (Green e) Skidgell. Kenneth enjoyed working on tractors and he was in the Navy.
He is survived by a sister in law, Mona Skidgell of St. Cloud, North Carolina, Dale and his wife, Beulah, of Dixmont and Dana of Gardiner; two sisters, Lottie and her husband Blake Stevens of Lee, and Marcia Grattan of Lincoln; nieces, Lauralee, Barbara, Vickie and her husband, Doug, Deborah, Shannon and her husband, Terry; grand nieces and grand nephews, Samantha, Douglas, Brooke, Marie, Ronald, Blake, and Timothy.

HARLAND E. STEVENS
LINCOLN - Harland E. Stevens, 78, husband of Grace (Gerry) Stevens, died June 16, 2004, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born in Lincoln, Feb. 27, 1926, the son of Harold and Beryl (Leathers) Stevens. Harland was A U S Army Veteran of World War II and earned the Purple Heart Award for being wounded in action. He was employed for 30 some years as a scaler for Dead River.
In addition to his wife, Grace, he is survived by a son, Bruce Stevens and his wife Laura of Torrington, Conn; a daughter, Sue Andrews of Bangor; four grandchildren, Shannon and Nicholas Stevens, Lindsay Lenfest and her husband, Sam, and Stacie Andrews-Easler and her husband, Ben Easler; three great-grandchildren, Chance Morse, Kaleb Lenfest and Darren Easler; a brother, Richard Stevens and his wife, Judith of Corinth; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Faye Miller, two brothers, Howard and Roger and a son-in-law, Carl Andrews.

PAUL O. SUTHERLAND
SPRINGFIELD-Paul O. Sutherland, 68, died June13, 2004 at a Lincoln hospital. He was born in Lakeville, April 23, 1936 the son of Ovid and Beulah (Davis) Sutherland. Paul was a veteran of the U S Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, country music and NASCAR. He especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita (Downs) Sutherland of Springfield; his mother Beulah Fenlason of Carroll, a son, Scott Sutherland and his wife Annmarie of North Carolina, and Thomas Sutherland of Lincoln; two sisters, Hannah Glidden of Prentiss and Marion Coburn of Lincoln; five grandchildren Branden, Timothy, Daniel, David and Jessica; two granddogs, Bailey and Zoe and one grandcat, Jeter; several nieces and nephews. He also leaves a close friend, Wendell Worster. He was predeceased by his father, Ovid; three brothers Wendall, Randy and Ollie; one sister, Geraldine Worster; and his stepfather, Lester Fenlason.

ARLENE MARY SWEDBERG
HOWLAND- Arlene Mary Swedberg, 80, died May 30, 2004 at a local hospital after a short illness. She was born July 29, 1923, in Howland, the daughter of Arthur and Eunice (Beathem) York. Arlene was a selfless person who always thought of others first. She loved making crafts to give to others, and was especially known for her great cooking. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife of more than 50 years to the late Roger Swedberg, Sr. Being a member of the Howland Baptist Church for more than 60 years, she served the Lord by being a Sunday School teacher, singing in the choir, and involvement in many church activities.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Roger and Cheryl Swedberg, Jr. of Old Town; seven grandchildren, Roger Swedberg, III and his wife Heidi of Old Town, Ethan, Rachel, Noah, Hannah and Abigail Swedberg, Melissa Elizabeth; a great-granddaughter, Faith Alyssa Swedberg; a sister-in-law and her husband, Alberta and Herbert McCrossin of Green field; many nieces and nephews.

MARGARET ANN THOMAS
ENFIELD - Margaret Ann Thomas, 79, wife of the late Raymond Thomas, Sr., died March 20, 2004, at a Lincoln hospital. She was born May 19, 1924, in Roebling, NJ, the daughter of Elizabeth Corinne (Fowler) Marshall and Adam Hamilton Marshall. Margaret was the matriarch of the family. She ruled with a wooden spoon, but really had a soft heart. She loved everyone and was quite the social butterfly.
She is survived by four children, Raymond, Jr., and his wife, Karen of Patten; Carolyn Nagy and her husband, Joseph of Enfield; Robert M. of Howland; and James A. of Lincoln; a brother, James T. Marshall and his wife, Peggy of Burlington, NJ; a sister, Kyma Dawn Tilton and her husband, LeRoy of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Raymond, she was predeceased by a sister, Ruth "Mudge" Veino.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Carolyn Metzler officiating. Interment will be in Town Line Hill Cemetery, later in the spring.
