LEWIS B. DOANE, SR.
KINGMAN - Lewis B. Doane, Sr, 79, passed away July 6, 2008, at home in Kingman, surrounded by his loving family. Lewis was born Oct 15, 1928, in Kingman, the son of Phyllis (Doane) Sherwood. At age 23, Lewis joined the Army and served in the Korean War. Upon his return, he met and married Dorothy (Thompson) Doane, his loving wife of 55 years.
Lewis had many jobs in his lifetime. He worked in the woods, for the railroad, and for Kingman Electric. His last job was at Forster Mfg in Mattawamkeag, where he retired. Lewis was a lifetime member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars and The Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed cooking and working at the Beanos. In recent years Lewis played Beano at the Medway DAV hall and enjoyed playing cards with the ladies. Lewis and Dot also enjoyed the local music jams and all the wonderful people they met.
Lewis was predeceased by his mother, and one sister, June Sherwood, and one grandson, Timothy Doane. Lewis leaves behind, two sisters, Babe Linscott and her husband, Fernald, and Pauline Snow and her husband, Bob; his loving wife, Dot, and their five children, Neal and wife, Dee, Dana, Luke and wife Brandee, Brenda Pratt and husband, Donald, and Loretta. Lewis also leaves behind a daughter he was united with in later years, Brenda Sutherland and husband, Donald; and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steve McNally officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in Kingman Cemetery.
CHARLES T. DOLAN
ENFIELD - Charles T. Dolan, 83, passed away Aug. 6 2008, with his loving family by his side, at his home. He was born June 22, 1925, in Old Town, the son of Helen Agrell Dolan and Willard E. Dolan. Charles attended Old Town schools and Husson College. Charles was very civic minded while in Lincoln. He was instrumental in organizing the re-start of the Lincoln Pulp and Paper mill in 1968. Charles was involved in many organizations, including the Rotary Club. He was a member of school board SAD 67 for several years and a director of Northeast Bank of Lincoln. Charles was on the board of the Penobscot Valley Hospital. He was a devoted member and trustee of Lincoln Congregational Church. He was a member of the Star in the East Masonic Lodge, No. 60 and a 50-plus year member of Anah Temple Shrine. Most recently, he was an active member of Ammadamast Grange, Enfield. He worked for Bangor Hydro Electric Co. for 43 years, 38 years as division manager. He and Marilyn owned and operated The Back Door gift shop for 18 years. After Marilyn's retirement, they moved to their home on Cold Stream Pond, Enfield. Here he enjoyed early morning swims and was free to spend endless hours in his gardens. He will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by his family and many friends. His four-legged friend Mrs. Beasley will miss her morning buttered toast.
Charles leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Marilyn Dewitt Dolan; four daughters, Jannifer O'Connor and husband, Jay, of Scarborough, Rebecca Dolan and Paul McDonald of West Enfield, Melanie and Matthew N.H., and Benjamin, Colin and Sean O'Connor of Scarborough; his sister, Hope Steves of California, Tom and Aoy Steves of Sims of Maine for their amazing support. With their help, Charles was able to spend the last hours of his life surrounded and cared for by those that loved him most. CECIL KEITH DOWNARD
LINCOLN - Cecil Keith Downard, 75, husband of Eleanor Ann (Knowles) Downard, passed away Oct 28, 2007 at his home. He was born Feb 11, 1931 in Bowling Green , Michigan for two years. He was a member of the American Legion where he became a Life Member in 1974. He received a citation for meritorious service, served as sergeant of arms, and was Penobscot County Commander of the 5th District for one year. He was assigned by the Portsmouth NH Harbor Masters as Seabrook NH Area Harbor Master and also worked as a police officer in Seabrook. He moved to Michigan; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd Lincoln. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, with the Rev. Myles Cyr officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
JAMES W. CLEVELAND
CARROLL - James W. Cleveland, 90, husband of 28 years to Lottie (McLaughlin) Cleveland, died Feb. 16, 2009, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born June 16, 1918, in Barre, Mass., the son of John and Nettie (Purvis) Cleveland. James enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, Lottie, he is survived by two daughters, Mary Dixon and Velma Melvin; two stepdaughters, Cathy Kecki and Brenda McLean; a stepson, Cliff Severance; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers and one grandchild.
Graveside services will be held in the spring at Stevens Cemetery, Carroll. Donations may be made to the Penobscot Valley Hospital Building Fund, P.O. Box 368, Lincoln, ME 04457. Arrangements are with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln.
GAYLAND S. COLE
OLD TOWN - Gayland Samuel Cole, 40, passed away Jan. 16, 2009, at his home, due to complications from diabetes. He was born June 9, 1968, in Lincoln, the son of Thaxter and Gay (Dudley) Cole. He was a graduate of Penobscot Valley High School, Howland, and was also an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed doing mechanic work and repairing practically everything. He especially enjoyed being at camp on Cold Stream Pond and cruising in the boat. He will be dearly missed by his family, his many friends and his faithful pets, Rocky and Bullwinkle.
He is survived by his parents, Gay and Norman Ewing of Lowell, and Thaxter and Mina Cole of Passadumkeag; his brother, Blaine and wife, Dina, of Veazie; his sister, Heather and husband, Greg, of Milford; his niece and nephew, Samantha and Mitchell Cole of Veazie; his stepbrothers, Norman Ewing II of Lincoln and Alton Huston of Passadumkeag; his stepsister, Pam Lindsay of West Enfield; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Leroy Landry officiating. HENRIETTA TENA COLE
LINCOLN - Henrietta Tena Cole, 89, wife of the late Harland E. Cole, passed away March 11, 2009, at a Lincoln health care facility. She was born June 10, 1919, in Woodville, the daughter of Roscoe E. Archer Sr. and Mahala (Jordan) Archer. Tena enjoyed her home and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Sheldon Cole and his wife, Peggy, of Lincoln; grandchildren, Kelly Russell and Tim of Lincoln, and Andrew Cole and Wendy of Winn; great-grandchildren, Amy, Emily and Cole Russell; a sister, Myrtle of Bangor and Texas; a son, Milo Cropley and his wife, Ginger, of Mars Hill; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Milo, she was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Cropley Staggs.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Clay Funeral Home-Bartlett Chapel, 24 Houlton Road, Danforth, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Robert Root officiating. Spring intermenty will be at Danforth Cemetery. Those who wish may donate in her memory to a charity of choice.
LORRAINE CURTIS
DEXTER - Lorraine Curtis, 71, died Feb 9, 2009, at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born Sept. 16, 1937, in Burlington, the daughter of Eugene and Irene (Champion) Shorey. Lorraine enjoyed cooking and knitting.
She is survived by her children, Horace Curtis of Lowell, Greg Curtis of Lincoln, Jean Cota of Old Town, Beth Seeley of Lincoln and Jowellyn Cobb of Burlington; sisters, Jeanette Bradbury of Exeter, Lois Norris of Plymouth and Vinal Shorey of Lowell; eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Curtis; and a son, Jefferey Curtis.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, with the Rev. Keith Shorey officiating. Spring intermenty will be at Lowell Cemetery.
DELTHA M. DAVIS
LINCOLN - Deltha M. Davis, 62, passed away Mar. 31, 2009, at a Lincoln hospital. She was born May 27, 1946, in Lincoln, the daughter of Chester and Ecla (Hanscom) Merrill. Deltha graduated from Mattanawcook Academy in 1964. She worked as a store manager in Maine, she was previously married to the late William F. McAllister and late Robert P. Stubbs II. She married the love of her life, Elwood "Du" Dugans, in 1982 and lived with him in the Lincoln area and even after his death in 2005. She will be well remembered as a mother first, then as a nurse at Bangor State Hospital and as a private duty nurse, a caregiver for many years for foster children and babies awaiting adoption through the Good Samaritan Agency, and for businesses that she owned in the years after this. Family was always first with her and she also enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping with Du and her crafts.
She is survived by her five children, William "Mike" McAllister and his wife, Debra, of Orono, Arthur "Mickey" McAllister of Clearwater, Fla., Marjorie Grindel and husband, Kevin, of Lucerne-in-Florida. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and two very special friends through the years, June Michaud and companion, Harold. She was predeceased by her parents; two siblings; and her husband, Elwood Du Dugans. Special thanks to her doctor of many years, Dr. Carl Alessi, the staff of Colonial Acres Nursing Home for their love and care for 16 years since her debilitating stroke, and the staff at Penobscot Valley Hospital for her final days.
At her request, there will be no funeral. Gifts and donations in her memory may be made at your local humane society, animal shelter or pet rescue league.
ELSIE (CARR) DUPLISEA
Lincoln - Elsie (Carr) Duplisea died Nov. 2, 2008, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born Dec. 1, 1928, the daughter of Lyman and Lucy Carr. She graduated from Lee Academy and Madigan Memorial School of Nursing in Houlton. She worked as a registered nurse at the Lincoln Hospital on Lee Street, the Mt. Edgecomb Medical Center in Sitka, Alaska, and as a nurse and then nursing supervisor at Penobscot Valley Hospital, in Lincoln.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald "Pat" Duplisea, Sr., of Lincoln; three sons, Gerald, Jr and Roxanne, of Fairbanks, Alaska, Patrick and Mary, of North Pole, Alaska and Eric, of Lincoln; grandchildren, Heather, Carrie and her husband Michael, Mike and his wife, Eliza, Derrick and his wife, Melynda, Mindy, Ryan and his wife Debbie and Kylie Staley; great grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, Katie, Kayla, Zoe, Caleb, Krystal, Derrick, Jr. and Sydney; a brother, Roy Carr and his wife, Dora, of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews. Elsie was prdeceased by her parents and sisters, Carolyn Bianco, Amber Mulligan, Joyce McCormack and a brother, Justin Carr.
At Elsie’s request, there will be no funeral service. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln.
SHANE EMERY DWYER
Wilton and Molunkus- Shane E. Dwyer, 33, of Wilton, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Central Thompson of Medway, brother in-law Troy Maine Maritime Academy and received his B.S. degree in Power Engineering Technology in 1996. He was employed for the last 8 years by Rumford Power and was recently promoted to Maintenance Manager, a job he loved. Shane was a huge part of the Wilton Rec. Dept. He adored working with all the kids in various sports. From his softball girls, all whom he loved as if they were his own, to his pee wee soccer team and tee ball team. His face would light up when he would talk about all his "kids". He was truly proud of each and every one of them.
He is going to be deeply missed by some very special friends who truly touched his life, Dana Underwood, Mike Earle, Justin Castagna and his best friend, Rebecca Scott.
Visiting hours will be Monday, March 3, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services to be held Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Community Evangel Temple, River Road, Lincoln with Pastor Tim Shaw officiating. Casual dress is requested. Shane was a jeans guy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MacKenzie and Ryleigh Dwyer Education Fund at Key Bank or left at Clay Funeral Home. Spring intermenty will be in Wilton at the Lakeview Cemetery.
LAURA MAY EDDY
LINCOLN - Laura May Eddy, 28, died Oct 20, 2007, at a Lincoln hospital. She was born July 4, 1979 in San Simion, California, the daughter of William George and Sonyo (Cheong) Eddy. Laura attended Full Gospel Tabernacle in Lincoln. Her family takes solace in knowing she is not only in the hands of God, but also with her "Nana," Ruby.
She will be deeply missed by her sister, Melinda Ann Eddy. In addition to her parents and her sister, she is survived by her grandfather, William C. Eddy, as well as several aunts and uncles.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Cemetery, with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Food Cupboard, c/o Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, ME 04457.
