Laurent Remillard
Laurent M. Remillard, 89, of Biddeford, died June 9 at his home.
He was born March 27, 1917 in Biddeford, a son of Philippe and Alphonsine Hebert Remillard, and was educated locally. After the death of his father in 1924, he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Charles Martel.
He served with the U.S. Army’s First Armored Division Tank Corps during World War II. He was stationed in North Africa, Italy and Bavaria and witnessed much combat.
On May 29, 1969, he married Simonne Leroux at St. Joseph’s Church.
He was a driver for the Deering Lumber Company for 45 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie 804.
Three brothers, Alphonse “Pat” Remillard, Joffre “Jeff” Remillard and Francis “Frank” Remillard, and a sister, Pauline Gay, died previously.
Surviving are his wife, Simonne Remillard of Biddeford; two half-brothers, Herve “Blackie” Martel of Plymouth, Florida and Florence Farley of Biddeford; and several nieces an nephews.
Burial is be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, 04005.
Alice Audie Walls
Alice Audie Walls, 89, of Saco, died June 8 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born Feb. 2, 1944 in Biddeford, a son of Joseph and Juliette Breton Fournier, and attended Saco schools.
He was employed by the City of Saco for many years. He also worked in construction for various employers throughout Southern N.H., retiring in 2001.
He was a parishioner of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Saco.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Terry of Saco; one son, Leo James Marin of Ashland, Ore.; one daughter, Mary Marin of North Highlands, New York, New Hampshire State Veterans’ Cemetery in Boscawen, Massachusetts, graduated from Winchester High School in 1941, and attended the University of New Hampshire; two sons, David Jury and Scott Worthing; one daughter, Denise Calkins; two stepsons, Craig Worthing and Stuart Worthing; and eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations to the Maine Medical Center.
He was born March 4, 1929 in Berlin, Maine Country Music Hall of Fame. For the past 12 years he played throughout New England as a member of Allen “Mac” McHale and the Old Time Radio Gang.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Solange Morneau of Lyman; two sons, Robert L. Morneau and his wife Bambi of Hollis and Douglas A. Morneau and his wife Judy of Biddeford; four daughters, Linda Hussey and her husband Phillip of Biddeford, Debra Mitchell and her husband John of Lyman, Laurie Ann Libby and her husband Christopher of Biddeford and Eileen Morneau of Biddeford; and eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Burial is in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, 04005.
Gary Lowell Sr.
Gary R. Lowell Sr., 51, of Wakefield Avenue in Saco, died July 7 at Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Portland.
He was a certified mechanic for six years at various auto dealerships throughout Southern Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough.
He was born in Lowell, Mass. on June 26, 1918, the son of Joseph and Rose Ann Berry Lavoie, was educated in Biddeford schools, graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1936, and attended the Penn State College of Optometry.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner in a flying squadron during World War II.
On Oct. 28, 1939, he married Gilberte L. LeBlond at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford. She died Sept. 22, 1987. On May 11, 1991, he married Lucille Descoteaux Croteau at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford.
He served his machinist apprenticeship at the Saco Lowell Shops, then transferred to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, where he was employed for more than 33 years, retiring as a general foreman in 1973. He also worked part-time as a security guard at Rich’s Department Store.
He was a commander of the American Legion Post #96 of Saco and a member of the Elks Lodge of Biddeford-Saco, VFW, Amvets, NARFF, the Toastmaster Club and AAA. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a charter member of St. Joseph’s Council. He sang in the choir at St. Joseph’s Church for 50 years.
He also spent five terms on the Biddeford City Council.
He lived in Biddeford from 1929-91, when he moved to Lady Lake, Fla. At Lady Lake he was a member of the American Legion Post #347, the Villages Homeowners Association and the Fraternal order of Police and attended St Timothy’s Catholic Church. He returned to Biddeford in 1995.
Two brothers, Delphis Lovoie and Alfred Gagnon, and two sisters, Jeannette Barker and Dolores Desmarais, died previously.
Surviving are his wife of 15 years, Lucille Lavoie of Biddeford; two daughters, Elaine Kadlec and her husband James Murphy of Biddeford andCarmen Pariseau and her husband Robert of Springville, Tenn.; one stepson, Norman Croteau of Saco; one sister, Corinne Nelson of Portland; and five grandsons, nine great-grandchildren, one stepgranddaughter, one stepgrandson, six stepgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Burial is in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, 04005. Memorial donations may be made to St. James School, 25 Graham St., Biddeford, 04005.
