JOHN H. GILMAN, JR.
BROOKTON- John H. Gilman, Jr. loving and devoted husband for forty years to Jessie (Kinney-Martins) Gilman, went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer. He died Aug. 5, 2007 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Brookton on October 17, 1930 the son of John Gilman, Sr. and Mavis (Nason) Gilman. Johnny was a dedicated member of the Brookton Pentecostal Church where he served as a Board member, Deacon and Treasurer for 29 years. He also served on the Board of Directors at Teen Challenge of Maine, as foreman on January 30, 1990, after 29 years of service. After this he was employed for sixteen years by Colin Bartlett as a heavy equipment operator.
Johnny was predeceased by a son Sidney; he is also predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his children, Karleen (Kinney) Gilman. He is survived by three sons, John and his wife Mabel of Lebanon, N.H., and Barbara Godley and her husband Frank of Brookton; two sisters, Norma Melanson of Bradley and Genevieve (Gene) and her husband Paul Gilpatrick of Weston; one aunt, Edith Jones of Brookton; fifteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends and loved ones will miss Johnny’s great sense of humor. Kids at church will miss the candy treats he always had in his pockets. His employer will miss a faithful, diligent employee who loved operating equipment and building and maintaining roads. His church will miss a spiritual pillar. His family will miss a wonderful, loving man, steady as a rock, who always gave them his very best.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the Clay Funeral Home- Bartlett Chapel, 24 Houlton Road, Danforth. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Danforth Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Frank Godley officiating. Interment will be in Eaton Cemetery. The family welcomes friends to a gathering at the Brookton Forest City Community Center afterwards. In lieu of flowers donations in Johnny’s memory may be made to the Brookton Pentecostal Church.
REBEKAH E. GILMAN
MATTAWAMKEAG - Rebekah E. Gilman, 49, wife of Danny Gilman, passed away March 13, 2008, at a Lincoln hospital. She was born Oct. 9, 1958, in Portland, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Holt) York. Rebekah enjoyed shopping and being with her family. She was a member of the Mattawamkeag Church of God.
In addition to her mother and her husband, she is survived by a son, Paul Ledbetter of Houlton; a daughter, Mariah Hotchkiss of New Hampshire; a grandchild, Madyson Huffstutler; a brother, Jerry Glidden and his wife Dawn of Old Town; two sisters, Marlene and her husband, Roscoe Tash of Chester, and Julie and her husband, Darryl Sterling of Caribou; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tim Shaw officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the 3rd Floor of EMMC, Bangor.
LEILA C. GORDON
LINCOLN - Leila C. Gordon, 89, wife of the late Stephen Gordon, passed away Jan 5, 2008, at a Lincoln hospital. She was born Jan 11, 1918, in Lowell, the daughter of Charles F. and Grace E. (Jipson) Hatch. Leila enjoyed camping and fishing, and her camp at Dobsis Lake. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and keeping up with all of their activities.
She is survived by two children, Katherine Gagnon and Galen of Mattawamkeag and Wayne Gordon and Carole of Tolland, Conn; three grandchildren, Jason Gagnon of Mattawamkeag, Glenn Gordon of Rumford and Colleen Gordon of Ellington Conn.; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Gagnon and Garett Gagnon, both of Mattawamkeag; and Victoria Gordon and Morgan Gordon, both of Rumford; siblings, Bill Walker and Ginny of Washington State, Priscilla Shea and George of Natick, Mass., Andy Hatch and Judy of Burlington, and Randy Hatch and Sandra of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two grandchildren, Tony Gagnon and Stephen Gagnon, and a sister, Kathy McKinnon.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. William Bewell officiating. Spring intermenty will be in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to either the Lincoln Center Baptist Church of the Activities Fund at Colonial Acres Nursing Home. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
HERBERT WORTMAN GRAHAM
LINCOLN - Herbert Wortman Graham, 86, died Nov. 15, 2007, in Lincoln. Herbert was born Aug. 1, 1921, in Wytopitlock, the middle of nine children to Robert and Minnie Graham. He lived his young life in Wytopitlock and Bath, and served during World War II in the Air Transport Command. Herbert was a life member of Horeb Lodge No. 93, a life member of Anah Temple Shrine and charter member of Northern Penobscot Shrine Club. Herbert enjoyed his activities at Lincoln Congregational Church. During his working years, he served as president of the Lincoln Rotary Club, as well as serving on the Lincoln School Board and Lincoln Town Council.
Herbert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marlene; daughter, Gayle and husband, Jeff Godfrey, of Midvale, Utah; son, Gary Graham of Murray, Utah; son, Ray and wife, Beth Graham, of Sullivan; and son, George Graham of Youngtown, Ariz. He is also survived by his sister, Gloria and husband, Phillip Knowlton, of Standish; brother, Bob and wife, Helen Graham, of Gorham; and sister-in-law, Aura Graham of Orono.
Visiting and refreshments will be held noon-1 p.m. Nov. 25 at Lincoln Congregational Church. Funeral services with a coordinating Masonic memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. that same day at Lincoln Congregational Church with the Rev. Darrell Joiner officiating, after which a graveside service will be held at Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Congregational Church of Lincoln, P.O. KATHRYN C. GRAHAM
LINCOLN - Kathryn C. Graham, 92, wife of the late Waldo E. Graham, died Sept 25, 2007, at a Lincoln healthcare facility. She was born Sept 15, 1915, in Lincoln, the daughter of Asa and Maude (Hurd) Clay. Kay was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Winn and was a Past Worthy Matron of Lincoln Chapter, O.E.S. She owned and operated Kay’s Beauty Shop in Lincoln for more than 40 years.
She is survived by her son, Michael Graham of Lincoln; her daughter, Scarlett Clark of Ruther Glen, Va.; five grandchildren, Peter Graham and his wife Jennifer of Standish, Steven Graham of Lewiston, Eve Kathryn Graham of Alexandria, Va, William Clark and his wife, Heather of Alexandria, Va., and Andrew Clark and his wife, Alta of Round Hill, Va; one great-granddaughter, Molly Patricia Graham and another due in December; several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her special caregivers, Faye McCormick and Shirley Budge.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Winn, with the Rev. Carolyn Metzler officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. Those who wish may donate in her memory to Penobscot Valley Humane Society. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
DURMONT L. GRANT
Lincoln - Durmont L. Grant, 67, husband of Linda (Tripp) Grant, went home to be with the Lord, May 28, 2008. He was born July 22, 1940, in Winn, the son of Herbert and Kathleen (Hulbert) Grant. His daughters, Michelle and Jeannine, were a big part of his life. Durmont drove trucks all his life. His job took him all over the country. He had many friends. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Durmont loved to tell jokes to all his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by two daughters, Michelle Lindsay and her husband, Stephen, and Jeannine Godbyr and her husband, Warren; four grandchildren, Charisse Godbyr, Magdelina Lindsay, Justin Godbyr and Joshua Lindsay; a sister, Carlene Hanscom and her husband, Hilton; brothers, Herbert and Horace of Connecticut; step-sisters, Muriel Wescott and Ruth Bracy of Bangor; many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Durwood, Dana and Gregory; a step-brothers, Richard and George Grant.

FRED L. GRANT, SR.
Prentiss - Fred L. Grant, Sr., 89, husband of the late Enola (Lothrop) Grant, died December 12, 2007, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born May 8, 1918, in Prentiss, the son of Fred and Birdie (Smith) Grant. He was veteran of the U S Army and a member of Forest Lodge AF & AM of Springfield.
He is survived by three daughters, Sharon Williams and Betha Andrews, both of Thompson Cemetery, Prentiss. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory, may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln.
HILDRED E. GRANT
MATTAWAMKEAG - Hildred E. Grant, 100, wife of the late Carl Grant, went to be with her Lord, Sept 15, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Aug 14, 1907, in Moro, the daughter of George and Agnes (Kennedy) MacIntosh. Hildred was one of the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law. Her very special thing to do was to plant her flowers and tend them through the summer and knitting mittens for her grandchildren. She was very good at spoiling her grandchildren, whom she loved very much.
She is survived by her son, Hartley Grant and his wife Earlene, daughter-in-law, Erma Grant, grandchildren, Elaine and her husband, Gerald Craig, Roberta and her husband John Cole, Sharon and her husband, James Gagnon, Hartley Grant, Jr., and his wife, Edie, Joey Grant and his wife, Melissa; 13 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Carl, she was predeceased by daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Harold Glidden, son Aldana; two grandsons, Donny and John Glidden and a great-grandson, Justin Craig.

MARCIA V. GRATTAN
LINCOLN - Marcia V. Grattan, passed away peacefully, Sept 15, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Nov 26, 1946, in Springfield, the daughter of Susie (Davis) and Orris Spencer. Marcia was a 1965 graduate of Lee Academy. She loved gardening, knitting, crafting and taking pictures of her favorite places to visit; Mt. Katahdin and Schoodic Point. She was a member of the Veazie Congregational Church, where she was on the trustee and missions committees. She had many wonderful and loving friends from the Veazie church and a special, life-long friend, Donna King, whom she loved dearly. She will be lovingly remembered most for her dedication and devotion to her family.
Marcia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin, her parents , a brother, Phillip, and a sister, Gail. She is survived by her brothers, Clifford and Carroll of Springfield, Avon and wife, Kathy of Ohio to Charles and Dorothy Gobozy. She lived in Hampden for many years with her family.
She is survived by her daughters Ginny, Ida, Dorothy and Crystal, her son Russell (Givens), many grandchildren and sister Jackie Rucker. She is predeceased by first husband, Rusty;second husband, Bill and her daughter Cathy.

VAUGHN W. GRIFFIN
LINCOLN – Vaughn W. Griffin, 81 died July 31, 2008 at a local health care facility. He was born in Castle Hill, Massachusetts, the son of Francis "Frank" and Dorothy (Sawtell) Hall.
A graduate of Mattanawcook Academy, Bob worked in Lincoln for many years as a mechanic and welder for Smart’s. He was a member of Horeb Lodge #93 AF & AM in Lincoln and the Lincoln United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of 68 years, Viola, he was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Frederick and Douglas. He is survived by three sons, David Hall, of Lincoln, Bruce Hall and his wife Rhonda, of Sutton, Mass. and Brian Hall and his wife Shannon, of Enfield; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a close niece, Christine Harlan and her husband, Jim, of Florida; a very special nephew, Rocky Archer of Eastport; several other nieces and nephews.

RICHARD F. HANSCOM, SR.
HOWLAND - Richard F. Hanscom Sr., 77, passed through heaven's gate, Aug. 22, 2008, surrounded by his wife and family at a Lincoln hospital. Dick was born Feb. 27, 1931, in Lincoln, son of Harvey and Emily (Cote) Hanscom. Dick joined the Navy at the tender age of 17, during the Korean War, serving in Key West and Panama. He worked with planes while in the Navy. He received his GED in 1969. Although Dick worked many jobs, from truck driver, scaler for I.P., storekeeper, and his greatest joy was working with Harry Crawford at Timberland Trucking, Medway, as office worker/dispatcher. Family was so important to Dick and a source of great pride.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary (Spencer) Hanscom; his sons and stepson and their spouses, Richard Jr. of Mattawamkeag, Allan and Maryann of Wytopitlock, Richard Norris Jr. and "DJ" and Robin of Bancroft; seven grand-children, James and Rachel Hanscom of Mattawamkeag, Jamie and Dan Stiehl of Orono, Rae Lynn Hanscom of Mattawamkeag, Tonya and Mike McLaughlin of Lincoln, Troy and Erin Hanscom of Hampden, Bobbi-Jo and Chelsee Norris of Bancroft; eight great-grand-children, Kourtney Hanscom of Mattawamkeag, Haley and Adria McLaughlin of Lincoln, Sydney and McKenna Stiehl of Orono, Natalie and Olivia Hanscom of Hampden and Hayleigh Jayde Norris of Bancroft; his one special brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Helen Hanscom of Lee; two sisters-in-law and their spouses, Irene and Waverly Boobar of Howland and Charlene and Harry Cottle of Medway; two brothers-in-law and spouses, Ralph and Linda Spencer of Medford and Ronald and Ruth Spencer of Howland; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and baby sister, he was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his children, Shirley Potter.
In keeping with Dick's request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Howland Cemetery with the Rev. Maurice Gray Sr. officiating. There will be a gathering at Sunrise Village Rec Room after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
