ARNOLD H. SHOREY
BURLINGTON - Arnold H. Shorey, 93, husband of Janet (Wheeler) Shorey, passed away Oct 4, 2007, at a Howland healthcare facility. He was born Feb 3, 1914, in Burlington, the son of Harry and Flossie (Miles) Shorey. Arnold was a logging contractor for many years, and had a large woods business. He loved the woods and enjoyed hunting and fishing and traveling. He had a great love for family and friends, was a very friendly person and loved to talk to people.
In addition to his wife, Janet, he is survived by five children, Joan Nissan of San Bernardino, Maine Central for a short time. He then worked as a logger, carpenter and guide and was caretaker of Nicatous Lodge.
In addition to his wife of 72 years, Edythe, of Burlington, he is survived by three children, Dale Shorey and his wife, Sandra, of California and Joan Sage and her husband, Paul, of Howland; one brother, David Thompson, of Skowhegan; four grandchildren, Cheryl Kosydor, Chris Shorey, Tracey Juan and Scott Shedd; six great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Donna; 11 brothers and 5 sisters.
Friends may call from 12 noon-2 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Keith Shorey officiating. Interment will be in Mt Repose Cemetery, Burlington, later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Word of God Fellowship. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
WESLEY F. SHOREY
LOWELL and LINCOLN Wesley F. Shorey, 80, died Aug. 23, 2008, at a Maine State Grange, as stage manager; member of Twin Town Lowell/Burlington Senior Citizens; and the Georgia Lane of East Holden; two brothers, Samuel F. Shorey, of D'Iberville, Miss., and Elton and his wife, Susan Shorey, of Orono; a brother-in-law, Clifton Barker of Lincoln; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
At Wesley's request, there will be no funeral service. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 at Lowell Cemetery. There will be a gathering at Escutarsis Grange Hall after the service. Gifts may be made in Wesley's memory to Escutarsis Grange, Lowell, care of Fern Cummings, P.O. Box 367, Howland, ME 04448 or may be left at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln.
CLEMENS FRITZ SJOBERG
On January 15, 2008, God called Clemens Fritz Sjoberg Home to Heaven. While residing at Colonial Acres in Lincoln, ME, he left his frail body, entering into abundant eternal life. Dad was born September 5, 1922, to Fritz and Elvira (Sodegren) Sjoberg in New Sweden, Maine. In 1947, he attended the wedding of Ruth Ackerman and friend, Wilbert Anderson. Two years later, Ruth became a widow. When Dad read Wilbert's obituary, he knew that someday, Ruth would be his bride. She became just that on June 27, 1950. Dad took on fatherhood right away, raising Paul Anderson as his very own. They lived in Presque Isle a few more years and then had daughter, Rhonda, in 1956. In 1958, the lord led them to Glen Cove, ME, to help Rev. Harold Duff start a boarding school, Glen Cove Christian Academy. Clemens and Ruth became dorm parents to 44 teenage boys that first year. Clemens also worked maintenance on campus. They attended First Baptist Church in Rockland, ME, for many years, where they served as deacon and deaconess. Daughter Brenda came along in 1961 and in 2 years, they moved to Old County Road in Rockland, where they resided until 1984. Dad worked at Massachusetts; daughter, Rhonda and husband, Richard Colburn from Chelsea, Maine; grandchildren Heath and wife, Heather Anderson, Ruth-Ann Anderson, Chad and wife, Amanda Colburn, Tim Colburn, Heidi, Hilde, Haley, Holli and Heath Bickford; brothers Carl and wife, Sonja Sjoberg, Everett and wife, Elaine Sjoberg, and sister Ebba Jepson. He also is survived by many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
A very special heartfelt thank you to all the caring nursing staff at Colonial Acres Nursing Home, who treated Dad like family. We invite them and all who were touched by Clem's life in some way to celebrate his heavenly homegoing at 12 noon, Saturday, Jan. 19, at Lee Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Philbrick officiating. Visiting hours will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
Following the service all are invited to a time of food and fellowship. Spring intermenty will be in New Sweden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lee Baptist Church Retreat Center Fund. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln.
MILDRED A. SMITH "PINKY"
WEBSTER PLT. - Mildred A. Smith, 'Pinky', 77, wife of the late George E. Smith, passed away June 13, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 28, 1931, in Danforth, the daughter of Reggie and Mae (Comeau) Mailman. Mildred enjoyed going to music jams and working in her flower garden. She liked to go to yard sales, enjoyed picking strawberries, and canning pickles and other things.
She is survived by three sons, Richard Smith and Marilyn of Georgia (Brackett) Spinney. Donald was a U S Army veteran of World War II, serving as a medic while overseas, and was a life member of the V.F.W. For many years, he was a saw operator for Forster Manufacturing Co., Inc. of Mattawamkeag. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, playing cards, and was an avid snowmobiler.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Lola, he is survived by two daughters, Doreen Bennett of Dixmont and Crystal and her husband, Stephen, of South Harwich, Mass; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annie Atkinson of Silver Ridge and Paulette Rabideau of Danforth; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four sisters, Pheobe Lee, Syrilla Spinney, Myra Cummings and Esther Spinney.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, with the Rev. Gerald Craig officiating. In lieu of flowers, perform a random act of kindness, or make a donation to your favorite charity.
GILBERT W. "GIB" SPINNEY
DANFORTH - Gilbert W. "Gib" Spinney died March 19, 2008, after a brief illness, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Danforth, the son of Gilbert M. and Mae (Bragdon) Spinney. He graduated from Danforth High School and was a veteran of the Korean War.
After completing his military service, he drove tractor-trailer before returning to his roots in Danforth. After retiring from Calif.
Friends may call noon-4 p.m. Sunday at Clay Funeral Home - Bartlett Chapel, 24 Houlton Road, Danforth. There will be an American Legion service 1 p.m., a Grange service 2 p.m. and a Masonic funeral 3 p.m., all at the funeral home. A celebration of his life will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Grand Lake Grange, where friends and family are invited to share conversation and refreshments. Graveside services will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gib's memory to Patricia Day Scholarship Fund or a charity of one's choice.
ROBERT CHARLES SPRINGER, JR.
MATTAWAMKEAG - Robert "Bobby" Springer, 46, passed away peacefully at his mother’s residence in Mattawamkeag, Tuesday April 6, 2010. Bobby was born July 14, 1963, in New Milford, Conn., son of the late Robert Springer, Sr. and Sandra (Clark) Springer. Bobby was a graduate of Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln. After high school, Bobby enlisted in the National Guard and completed his basic training in Atlanta, California; grandchildren, Adrianna Thurlow, Bradyn Whiting, Mia Pelkey and Richard Winder; many nieces, nephews and special friends. Bobby will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jason Johnstone officiating. Interment will be in Mattawamkeag Cemetery, later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donation in his memory may be made to the Lincoln Food Cupboard.
RHONDA A. STAGER
LINCOLN - Rhonda A. Stager, 45, of Lincoln Oklahoma, and Lloyd Cipriano of Maine the son of the late Isaac and Viola (Spencer) Stanley. Carlton and Rhoda were married on August 20, 1948, celebrating 59 years of marriage last August. Carlton retired from the New York, and James Hodgins of Clifton; special friends Barry and Lois Smith and Lydia Preston. She was predeceased by Phyllis Williams and Nancy Tomah.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday September 13, 2007 at Eaton Cemetery with Pastor Frank Godley and Rev. Thomas Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers family and friends may make donations to American Cancer Society, One Main Street, # 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240. HOULTON- Joan Stearns died May 20, 2008 at her home in Houlton.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the Cary Baptist Church with the Rev. Sudesh "Peter" Valji officiating.
